I've seen this German company on eBay selling them. Do they put Chinese automatic movements in them?
@ReviewCrap5 жыл бұрын
I've never opened it up, but I assume a Chinese movement for the price they're selling.
@stormydaniels76735 жыл бұрын
@@ReviewCrap Is that the movement that came in the watch from Sorna originally? I was thinking of buying one, does it matter of its a Chinese movement? I'm sure I read somewhere that the movements they came with originally were cheap movements anyway...pin lever?!
@ReviewCrap5 жыл бұрын
@@stormydaniels7673 Back in the 70's Sorna watches used a cheap (but Swiss) pin-lever chonograph movement (I believe it was manual-wind) However, this is a modern watch, while the cases and dials are similar in appearance to the 70's models, the movement is a modern automatic one (likely something out of China). The new watches/Sorna company have nothing to do with the original company. This watch is basically a loose homage of the original. I bought it for the colorful 70's style design, as long as it keeps adequate time (which it does), I wasn't too concerned about where the movement came from. Up to you, really. 😁
@ReviewCrap5 жыл бұрын
@@stormydaniels7673 The tldr; answer:. It's not using a pin lever movement. Probably Chinese automatic, which is more reliable/accurate than that old movement.
@stormydaniels76735 жыл бұрын
@@ReviewCrap I'am completely with you on that, I have seen some Tegrov watches that look like the Sorna watch, I believe they might be a joint company from WUS. I thought they all might have been Swiss watch companies that died off in the quartz crisis

How the heck do I set the other world functions correctly?
@ReviewCrap6 жыл бұрын
Other world functions? You mean the world time? It's just a bezel. If you're in New York, you put the NYC at 12:00. It's actually kinda gimmicky, as the only way this would work well is if the watch had a 24hour movement (which it doesn't) or a GMT hand that operates as a 24hr hand. Yeah, not really a great watch for that.

@@ReviewCrap No , I am pretty sure these are designed to work with a normal 12 dial.... I have a couple , if they are printed correctly there is a method to the madness...... there is a good website "somewhere" that explains the usage ....by the way , love the video...cracked me up... I have some decent Chinese watches, this looks like it falls somewhere in between the great and the crap...did you ever open it up ? I have one of those tonneau shaped crap chinese watches with the rotor that is so light you have to keep constantly hand winding it , but I'll be damn if it does not keep just about perfect time over a week ( if you wind it ) . I expect the crown to fall off though .... What does one expect from a $25 watch., right ?...

I thought that these sears mechanical watches are basically pin lever (umf) with base metal case. Your review proved me that I where wrong ,
@ReviewCrap6 жыл бұрын
Unless I'm missing something, you were correct...as far as the vintage ones from the 70s. Watches in base metal isn't a thing anymore, so the modern Sorna/Sears homage watches are stainless steel (or at least claims to be) As for the pin lever movement, again the modern pieces are likely just cheap Chinese automatics, but the 70s originals were actually pin lever. I should open the back of this modern Sorna to see what they're putting in there....
@shahinsha1086 жыл бұрын
@@ReviewCrap The old sorna automatic were powered by hamazawa movements ( a company who make cheap movements like Timex but with quality ,later become a part of Seiko group) . and in observation on eBay and several watch pages ,all hamazawa movement watches came in stainless steel cases except sears and westclox .
@ThePandaBeat4 жыл бұрын
@@shahinsha108 I have around 10 original Sornas, from the 70s, they all had Ebauches Betlach pin lever movements. The "new" automatic ones are made in China by a "german" company called Trias.
