I can relate to that Adrienne I was always accused of "acting white" "talking white" and being the "Oreo" and me being the lightest one in my family didn't make it any better. People think black people are always running away from the sun but I was running towards it 😂 I use to always want to be dark skin because I thought that would validate my "blackness" now I just brush it off if I say I'm black IM BLACK and NO ONE should dismiss that based on how you talk, what music you listen to etc.
@jeannettedraper20887 жыл бұрын
ValJay I can relate. People including my patents say I talk like a white girl. And growing up I was one of the lighter kid's in the neighborhood. So much that my cousin went around telling people that I was half white and people believed her. I learned to live with it and embrace it. I know who I am and I'm cool with it.

same exact thing happened to me. I'm very much light skin & i have long hair which didn't help considering i also "talk like a white girl" and listen to "white people music". my cousin also went around telling people that i was mixed with spanish & white and ppl still believe it.

I guess her bond to her PR side is stronger than to her ecuadorian side. And obviously she feels more PR. My uncle for example married a German and he is Croatian. They have to kids. Both of them don't really embrace their croatian side ( it is also my uncle's fault). They feel only german which for them is fine.

YO ADRIENNE BETTER PREACH!! I am first generation American. my mom is Cuban and my dad is Peruvian, but they didn't teach me or my sisters Spanish as our first language. It was more so something we are now having to teach ourselves. It was rough growing up in a Hispanic neighborhood and getting judged as kids because we didn't speak fluent Spanish like our parents. and having pale skin didn't help with that either. It reminds me of the girl chat they did once about "Not being Latina Enough". so, YES I AM LATINA AND PROUD. no one can tell me otherwise
@cristinalebron40777 жыл бұрын
I understand exactly how you feel! I am full Puerto Rican and went to High School in in New York City which has a lot of Spanish speaking students and I would get made fun of because I didn't speak Spanish. It really bothered me and it was rough in school but there wasn't anything I could of done since my parents didn't teach me back when I was younger so now I trying to learn Spanish.

I relate to Adrienne, but in a more broader sense. I am half Afro dominican but I do not look like it. When I was in high school, a Latina girl asked about my race. I said I was Latina. She said how. I said I am half dominican. She told me straight up no you're not, you don't even look LATINA or BLACK. I said YOU TRIED IT. Race can not be configured by the appearance of someone. This happens to my sister more frequently since she's paler and she has double eyelids naturally so she doesn't "appear" to be half dominican. This one girl harassed my sister telling her she will never be Latina. when my sister came home and told me, I told her the exact same thing Addriene's mom told her! THE GAG IS THOUGH my sister spoke spanish fluently while that other girl couldn't even finish a scentence. She tried it and failed.

I can relate so much to what Adrienne said. As someone who is half Bulgarian and half Italian it's always been a struggle for me identifying "what I am" and I felt as if I needed to prove to people that I am the things that I am. I even envied people who are "fully" Italian or "fully" Bulgarian but now I realize that I AM Italian and I AM Bulgarian and the halves shouldn't even matter. No one can take that away from me or anybody else.

I can relate to Jeannie with her story. A guy that I talked to was nothing but nice to me, but eventually he started going through a lot of stress (at that time he did not explain to me everything he was going through) From bits and pieces of what he told me, I knew something was really wrong, and he would ask me to drive from NJ to Philly to come visit him, and talk. I did everything to be there for him, but he shut me out. Eventually it went from shutting me out, to lashing it out on me. I would get excited to see him, try to dress pretty for him, he would do nothing but body shame me, and make comments about me gaining weight, or my booty not being too plump. It honestly hurt my self esteem, I never been tiny, but I always felt beautiful, and he was one of the first people to make me ashamed of the way I looked. Eventually I had a long talk with my mom, and she opened my eyes and made me see the beautiful woman that I am. Around that time, he was going to be my senior prom date, he already purchased the ticket, and I still wanted a date. We actually had an amazing time, I saw the guy that I had feelings for when we first start talking. AS SOON as prom was over, he went right back to his old ways. I told him I had ENOUGH, and I was done! He broke down, once he saw I was completely over it, and finally told me everything that was going on with him, but I told him it was too late, and he had no right to bring down my self esteem to make himself feel better. I got out that car with my head up high, while he was in tears, trying to convince me to forgive him. I will NEVER AGAIN let a man make me feel unattractive and worthless. #SorryCharlie

I actually like Tamera 's hair, I think she looks beautiful(in reference to everyone that doesn't like this particular style on every video). This hair style is a different type of style that everyone can't pull off and one thing about trendsetting it seems weird at first, but then you see everybody jocking that style. To each its own. If she likes it & feels confident that's all that matters.
