I was cooking from the Packs App for the first time a couple days ago. As the curry simmered I calmly began cleaning the kitchen. I have NEVER calmly done anything while cooking, certainly not clean! I typically just stare at pots in panic waiting to see what I screw up, how did you fix me? My lovely Sorted Chefs are MAGIC! And it was delicious. Thank you for the amazing cooking help, can’t wait to make another recipe!

At 4:05, what I see as beneficial is this: let's say you're going to have friends over and plan to cook for them, but you don't want to do all the preparation while they are there. So, you prep everything in advance, put it in boxes, and then store these in the refrigerator. This way, everything is ready. Set up the station in a spot where it's not in the way. When it's time to cook, take everything out of the fridge, place it on the station, and start cooking. This seems more organized, but it does require planning regarding what you want to cook. Alternatively, you could have a lot of boxes with various food items, so you just take out what you need. However, this method does mean more cleaning afterward - all the boxes and tools need to be cleaned, which, even with a dishwasher, uses power and therefore more electricity, impacting the environment. I like to do the method mentioned in the video, such as adding water to a can, like a empty can of tomato purée, to mix it and get all the remaining purée out, and then using that in the food. This way, you use everything, reducing waste. This approach could be particularly useful for people who like to be organized while cooking or for those making food videos.

Exactly what I was thinking, you could get dozens of oven safe containers you could cook in for half the price if you wanted a set of containers to put stuff in. Other than that a simple knife is what you're going to be using for 99% of your basic home cooking, no need to spend hundreds on a few little things to help, for the number of times you're going to use a garlic press you can make do with a cheap one or none at all, I think...

The fact that a mesauring glass bowl or cup can does everything better makes the 2nd item stupid. I don't understand why they even bother to have a lid on it cause it aint air tight, and the size of those containers are no good for more than one portion of veggies.

Its actually only $109 now. The cover is actually a cutting board, which magnetically attatches underneath, to the system, and the right side pulls out, so that while you're cooking you can push the scraps in to the whole, and then pull out the drawer on the right side and dispose of the scraps hopefully in to a compost. They also have an accessory that fits in the right side compartment to store knives. It can be a very useful tool. They just really did not do a great job demonstrating how to use all of its functions.

Onions release a chemical that is produced to stop pests attacking them when onion cells are damaged. Cutting them releases it and it evaporates hitting the surface of your eyes. so wearing glasses being taller and further away helps. But putting the onions in a fridge which is where most chefs store onions helps. The sweeter the onion the less of the chemical that induces tears. Red onions are sweeter than white. so to reduce tears use red onions chill the onion do not stand over it and cut them under an extractor fan. It is also due to the sulphur level in the soil they are grown in.. the more Sulphur they absorb the more of the chemical that makes you cry. Some areas have more Sulphur and just produce onions that make you cry more.

I like how James basically went from one container to another, just in a different shape lmao. As with most of the recipe videos measuring ingredients. i.e. measure out 400 grams of plain white flour and 200 grams of bread flour then add them into a mixing bowl. Congrats, now you have three used mixing bowls lmao. I guess it's useful for people who aren't necessary tidy as per say or without a thought process/system in mind when they are cooking since it "forces" them to build up that habit of putting ingredients into containers when the prep is done but then again it could be easily done with a few saucers and plates/bowls.

I think the big positives for the PrepDeck is space-saving and ease of tool access. All the little lids have a different tool on them -- a grater, then it clips onto the container, and you don't have shredded cheese flying everywhere (as an example). I like to just use bowls and separate things on my cutting board too, but right now I only have one small countertop to prep on. I just don't have enough space to use 3 bowls for ingredients AND my cutting board. That's where I think the PrepDeck shines: apartment dwellers with not a lot of kitchen space. It can live on your countertop, and when you're ready to cook, it unfurls into a cutting board (not sure I trust the board myself, it seems flimsy) but also a space to keep your prepped items. Personally, my knife skills are still slow, so to get the best out of my ingredients I do all my mise en place before I begin cooking. And that's where the PrepDeck would work well for me. Especially with my limited space, if I needed thin slices (which I'm not skilled enough to do by hand), I don't have the counter space to use a mandolin. Oh, the deck has a mandolin lid! That makes it much easier.

I can totally see this working if you're teaching a kid to cook. You can prepare everything for them in the beginning so big meals don't look so overwhelming. Also for myself - I don't always have the energy to make a whole meal and cook. So I can prepare when I have the energy, and then cook at a later time when I have more energy ☺️

That's a good point but you could get a set of Weck jars or something comparable instead. They can go in the dishwasher, take up much less space in the cupboard as you can stack them, spare parts can be bought separately and will likely be available for the next decades, the lid seals tightly, you can put them in the freezer if you change your plans or lose motivation, they store leftovers and the best thing - they're about 3€ including the lid.

How is the outlery compared to multi tool style folding cutlery? www.amazon.com/Multi-Function-Camping-Flatware-Detachable-Carrying/dp/B07Q3PR1R2/ Or alternatively when compared to other folding cutlery already on the market? www.amazon.com/Star-Art-Folding-Spoon-Fork-Knife/dp/B0755BL7YC/ Personally I've just been using metal version of these spoon, knife, and fork contraptions when outdoors along with a set of metal chopsticks. They are about small enough that I can keep them in a pouch in my pocket but since i usually camp or go to work with a bag I usually keep them there. www.amazon.com/Darller-Durable-BPA-Free-Tritan-Sporks/dp/B07C2SY71B/ At a cost of 32 usd a piece I don't see how I can justify spending that much on something where other products fulfill the same role. Have you tried any of the cheaper alternatives and if you have what is your opinions on them?

I crowdfunded the PrepDeck on IGG and it's been super amazing to have as I go to conventions! I pre-prep everything in those containers for my meals, pop the whole thing in the bag and throw it in the fridge at the hotel! I usually bring my mini induction and a set of stackable utensils and I'm cooking for myself and a couple of friends in a confined space with no problems. It also helps that usually I've prepped more than just one meal's worth of ingredients (I try to stick to meals with similar ingredient profiles, but with different twists). Basically, I use what I need and the rest that's left in those containers just go in and out of the fridge until all of that particular ingredient is used. Thought I'd share how I use mine and that I do actually find it super useful in hotel rooms or in camper vans!

The thing about crowd funding is despite some large-ish orders you're not really entering into economies of scale. Without true mass production the price is going to be higher, no way around it. Also, thanks to a typo, did you ever realize the crowd funding is 1 letter apart from crows funding?

The PrepDeck is great for starting your mise and even doing prep for meals the next day. I like it, as it works similar to a caddy that you would see at the bar that as your limes and such in it. If you use it as one full unit, where it is your cutting board, its ur spice storage, its ur refuse bin, even using it to store a small pairing knife, it all works very well together and makes sense. I also did not back it, but didn't pay anywhere near that price on the website, maybe I had bought mine during a sale.

The Outlery set was the most interesting of the bunch and I like that it's so compact, but it's not £40 (around $52) interesting. People have been making camping cutlery for a century or more now, out of metal no less, sometimes more successfully than others. The Romans were doing the multi-tool approach more than 1800 years ago. If someone wants portable metal cutlery stop by a sporting goods/camping store or local department store with a sporting goods section and see whats out there. In the US you can easily find a knife, fork, & spoon set for under $10 (may need to get a case separately though). You can even get some ordinary inexpensive steel cutlery from the department stores that will cost so little losing them won't be a concern. I did this several years ago when I had to live out of a hotel for an extended period -- bought the cheapest four packs of forks, knives, spoons Wal-Mart had and used them for several years afterwards (I'm pretty sure I spent under $10 for everything).

I've been using a 3 piece multispork thing that I got in the army for years while camping. No need to reinvent the wheel, the R&D has been made with the most pissed off people you can find: hungry, cold, miserable corpsmen. I can't think of a way to break them other than deliberately try and destroy them or run them over with a car or something and they would probably survive that too.

The organizer thing seems good for if you've got lots of time to prep, but not a lot of time to do the cooking, such as not having a lot of time at once to cook, or having holiday meals where you have tons of prep time, but you have to cook a ton of things at once and not a lot of leeway between the different dishes. Also, the metal cutlery seems great for camping, allowing for good metal cutlery on the go in a reasonably small package.

Although you could just use a handful of divided plates and plastic wrap, or just whatever containers you have already, would lean more on the side of a presentation/meal on site. Still way too expensive.
