my dad has a musical biscuit tin with a little handle on the side that you turn for a silent night. and we whip it out every year and refill it with our homemade biscuits. it's an important christmas tradition in our house
@Smallpotato19652 жыл бұрын
God, yes! My parents had one of those 'golden' musical bells which played silent night and hung from the ceiling every Christmas. One of my earliest memories is being lifted up to make it play before going to bed. While not a fanciful child, I firmly believed that little men lived inside that clock to make that music. My parents have been dead for decades, and that bell now lives my my closet to be hung in my house during Christmas. It's important. It's not Christmas unless that bell has tingled 'silent night'. That bell is made from plastic and cardboard, and such musical bells were, apparantly, in vogue in the Fifties, when my parents married and started their family. Anyone else looking at it would see horrid tat, but to me, it's still the magical Christmas clock that four year old me was allowed to make play before going to bed.

We have pheasant and venison for Christmas dinner which we get during hunting season. Commercial pheasant does NOT have lead shot since they are raised on farms and culled like chicken, turkey. What I LOVE about the marshmallow Advent calendar at $30 is its a product made by a small confectioner, NOT a mass produced factory item and the boxes can be used again for future Christmases, and it's a unique gift. For gifts we are making almond cranberry biscotti, and pistachio biscotti with one end dipped in 70% cocoa and then some wee bits of edible gold. Sheets of edible gold are affordable and make for a fun addition to cake, cookie decorations.

You need to own land or need to get permission from the owner of the land to hunt (hard enough to find the owner of the land), depending on what you hunt you will have to be quite wealthy, in my family we live in the country side and we get all sorts of birds and rabbits through our garden so that's relatively cheap to do

Land is immensely valuable everywhere in Europe with 750 million people around similar size land mass as US (without Russia) and has been fully cultivated. Sweden and Finland are essentially the only places in Western Europe where population density is close to US and there hunting is not seen posh, while certainly not lower middle class thing either after all the permits, equipment and needing to be part of a local paid hunting organisation.

The pheasant bit cracked me up. My father hunted when I was growing up and we ate a lot of pheasant. It's amazing smoked. But he certainly didn't wear tweeds and we didn't live on any kind of estate (I'm in the US). And, yes, one year we did have partridge for Christmas dinner.

The instant coffee is definitely pretentious. I'd love to try the Panettone - it's so difficult to watch you guys indulging into it while the watchers are drooling just seeing you enjoying it. My favorite one is Marshmallow Advent Calendar since I'm a huge fan of those calendars that are more than just little pieces of chocolate. I'd love to see some Christmas food both sweet and savory, something that you enjoy every Christmas.

I am currently eating artisnal marshmallows right now. These ones are watermelon lemonade, I've also got bourbon, black currant, rum and coke and raspberry rose marshmallows in the kitchen. The texture is better, the flavour is better, the overall enjoyment of just a single marshmallow is better. Once you have a good marshmallow, you never go back to those horrible, flavourless, gelatenous cylinders you buy in the regular grocery store.
