When you were talking about the issue with your paper trays - not being able to find more of the same, not feeling great about having some that will be different and not wanting to buy new ones for all of the scraps - I could so relate!! That is exactly the kind of detail that will stop me dead in my tracks during a project. Will literally leave me feeling paralyzed so I commend you for continuing to sort your scraps even though you weren’t sure where you will put the blues, grays and blacks. I’m told that my issue is perfectionism and needing to do things perfectly or not at all. I came across a banner online that said “The world doesn’t reward perfectionists - the world rewards people who can get things done.” I’ve been really working at “better” or “done” instead of perfect. And you, my friend, have really become someone who can get things done! I am so thrilled to see your scrapbook room and so thrilled for you to enjoy the beautiful space that you’ve worked so hard to create!

You're doing amazingly! I help myself on the flat surfaces issue by having a 'station' in each room, which is a flat surface whose purpose is to put things on. Then when I leave the room, I pick things up from it and take them in the right direction to be put away or in the bin or sink or whatever. Because it's one smallish surface over by the door, it's easier to keep on top of, and then everything else in the room belongs in the room. It gets crowded fast and that prompts me to have a clean up a lot earlier, as in several times a day, which I need to do, but it's such a tiny job each time. A big table would just turn into a scary pile, so it's just a shelf or a small table, or a plastic tub for dirty pots. I can't just keep piling things up and piling things up without noticing and realising something is wrong. Also, I used to have what I called the 'grey goblin' that told me things like "You're worthless," and "Nobody likes you," and other really mean things, which was how my depression manifested and you mentioned similar negative thoughts. Well, I started arguing with it! Not out loud but inside my head. I would think "No I am not!" and "I am allowed to just exist like any other person would be." And "I didn't hurt anyone or commit a crime, get off my back." And I would practice thinking "You're doing so well!" and "You can do it!" Well, now when I close my eyes, the grey goblin is long since gone and what I have going through my head is "You're doing so well," and "You can do it!". It took a lot of arguing over many years but I got there. I learned to forgive myself for being a human being with problems, and I don't feel I'm wrong for existing any more. Being as kind to yourself as you would be to any stranger on the street is a good way to live, I feel. Best wishes! I've been so impressed and I've learned from you in how to deal with downsizing my own belongings after a forced house move to a much smaller place. It hurts to let stuff go but I feel I'm not alone in doing that. You're right there doing the same thing.

Dear Clay and Colt’s Mom. I’d do it but I don’t know where you live. Please take some of your special paper and write some affirmations and place the paper where you visit often, like the bathroom mirror. Read aloud each time you visit the space. Start with “You are worthy. You are loved. You have many friends who value your presence”. Honestly, you are a sensitive, intelligent, and creative human who should know how incredible you are. You have many cheerleaders. Sending love from a hotel in Utah ❤.

It just goes to show how different minds work differently you sort by color, I sort by size. You like to see all your stuff out, I don’t want to see it, it makes me nervous. I want it behind closed doors. It’s interesting isn’t it, all our different organizing styles. My cardstock scraps are just organized by plain, large, medium and small, and print, large medium and small. My paper scraps are a little different because I make junk journals so I have a lot of things like book pages and music sheets, things like that, so I organize those in four trays, text, prints, plain, and lines and grids. While you were sorting your papers I was going, I have that one, I have that one, I have that one. 😂

I'm the "clean freak" of my family/friend group but as someone who also has depression, I don't have the energy for both maintenance and big projects when I cycle into a low point. I liken it to being dumped into the open sea with no life preserver. At that point, I'm not thinking "I should work more hours to buy a boat" (declutter or other home projects). That may be true, but it is completely beside the point at the current moment. The only important task is to keep my head above water (basic maintenance at whatever level I can manage). The rest can and, dare I generalize, should wait. I don't know if that comparison makes sense, LOL. Just to say that yes, it does become a matter of prioritizing sometimes, and that's okay and normal, I think!

I love the idea of writing down your biography based on your t-shirts, maybe even with photographs. Right now your memories are attached to those t-shirts and if you give them away, that memory feels lost. But if you have it in written form and the t-shirt to remember as a photograph, it might be easier to let some of them you don't absolutely love go because you saved the memory of both the t-shirt and what it stands for.

From a decluttering maintenance standpoint, a mantra that I have when it comes to flat surfaces is don't put it down, put it away 😊. I also never leave a room empty-handed. Meaning if something has to go to another room & I'm heading there, I take it there with me. This also applies to trash & recycling. Also I don't clean my entire house in 1 day, but have a weekly cleaning rotation schedule that I learnt from The Fly Lady on KZbin.

When your depression tries to make problems about the decluttering and your viewership, fight back by reminding it that we are all here for the PROCESS and not to make you prove you can keep your house perfect. After all, what will we watch if everything was gone 😂 I also have alot of trouble with flat surfaces. When I upgraded my tv stand, I instituted a rule that there may only be one item besides the tv. That item was either a candle or a flower, but nothing else. Literally any other item becomes a magnet for other items. Sometimes I will just go around the room picking up random items and putting them into a paper bag just to collect it all and clear the flat surfaces in order to dust them. Obviously I eventually need to go through the bag, but it looks soooo much better and allows me to keep the surface clean for longer. It also just helps my brain function when there is less to look at. All of a sudden I can identify other things that need to be put away, when I was previously totally blind to them!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts again. And yay for the Farscape shout out. Such a great TV show. As I watch you sort the paper, I am reminded of all the people that designed each beautiful sheet of paper. Even the plain paper was designed with respect to the hue and saturation and finish. I love that there is so much creativity in the world! As for micro-organizing, I feel like at this stage, it might be more energizing. Seeing scraps and feeling them them jiggle away at the creative brain bits is, hopefully, a wonderful feeling. And soon enough, you will be a flow state. Ideas come effortlessly, everything works together, fingers fly and tools never fall on the floor. It is the best! Cheers, Mira!

No pressure either way. Tho I would say that maybe keeping the mask on while you're decluttering might be wise. I'd imagine going through all that clutter might kick up dust / paper mites and the masks might keep allergies at bay. Especially with your medical issues. Tho I could see not wearing the mask during in-between shots. You're doing awesome and the craft room looks great!

I know! That's why I always hated cutting grass - it just grows back!
