@w0rthy_ 5 жыл бұрын
The way I was calculating the Real Time here was taking the (current time - start time - sleep time). The problem here is that no matter how precisely I attempted to measure the sleep time it was unstable, sometimes reporting more time slept than had actually been, which results in the real time occasionally decreasing.
@davidjames1684
@davidjames1684 5 жыл бұрын
Why don't you just have the code so you can comment out the visual stuff, and just report the actual runtime of each in milliseconds after each one is sorted and hold it up on the screen for a few seconds so we can compare results. It seems like heapsort did quite well and I have a supposedly even faster version of heapsort I am playing with that should beat standard heapsort by maybe 10 to 20%

Everyone talks about 4:42 just because it sounds and looks cool, while nobody talks about 3:18 which is probably the fastest method in the video EDIT: So according to what you guys have told me, 3:18 is actually slower than 4:42 and I just want to know why these are slowed down or speeded up and/or stuff? Is it because it'd go too fast for anyone to see what's going on?
@ondra1petrik

i don´t think you know how ms works ,the 3:18 took 4063.18ms in real time ...the 4:42 took 32.27ms so 3:18 is 4,06318S and 4:42 0,03227S

I don't trust ANY of these actual runtimes with all the video stuff embedded. This person needs to comment those out and do a separate run with just the sorting and a large enough array to make a reasonable comparison. Then and only then will I consider the actual runtimes accurate. 500 items is not enough. Try something like 1 million but with no visual stuff and then add those times at the end of each visual sort or just show a table of results at the end of the video with each sort algorithm, how many comparisons, how many array accesses, and the ACTUAL runtime without the video stuff.

Through clever placement/movement or analysis of numbers in the array, "Distributive" sorting algorithms are capable of sorting arrays without needing to use any comparisons.

@tsmeowth001 5 жыл бұрын
one example i could give is this: if you know what the max and min is and what numbers you actually have in the array, you could "sort" it by simply just creating the actual sorted version with the known numbers and collapse the gaps between known numbers in the array. no comparisons were done.

Fun fact: shuffling an array by swapping each element with another random element is actually a naive algorithm. The reason being is that n^n-the number of ways this algorithm can shuffle an array-cannot be evenly divided by n!-the number of permutations of the array. For n^n to be divisible by n!, every single integer between 0 and n would have to be a factor of n, which isn’t possible if n is bigger than 2. This means that the shuffle will result in some permutations more likely than others. The solution would either be for each element to be swapped with a random element from the beginning of the array to said element, or for each element to be swapped with an element from the element you’re swapping to the end of the array. That way the number of possible results from the shuffle is n!, and not n^n. Credits to Udiprod on youtube for pointing this out in their video on stooge sort and bogo sort

Something dumb like "have an array with one entry for every possible number in the range and increment when you see that number" Only works when the range is very narrow.

My presumption was that sorting videos were the reason people subscribed. I took my non sorting videos elsewhere since I don't want to annoy people who did subscribe with unwanted content in their subscription feeds. More to the point: Whenever I come up with enough ideas about how to change/improve the program I upload some new ones. Nothing is monetized, this is all just for fun to me.
