Also you should notice how before the cigarette is smoked everything in this episode goes pretty easily and at the end,Aki gets revenge for Himeno. But then when he smokes the cigarette, we only see him smoke the part that says "Easy" but "Revenge" is still visible implying that revenge will no longer be easy.

It's easy to miss because of how little screentime he's actually had, but Katana Man is written as the perfect foil to Denji for this season. - He grew up pampered by his grandfather, and thus he was willing to turn his head away from his grandfather's "necessary evil" crimes. Denji was treated like an animal and betrayed and killed by said grandfather. - Despite this, Katana still insists that his grandpa was in the moral good. In their confrontation in the finale, he assumes Denji is lying about his grandpa turning into a zombie and instead killed him out of some malicious intent. He then justifies this by saying Denji is stupid (and uneducated, in the manga translation). We can see here that Katana Man has been spoiled for a long time, and believes that his education has given him the moral high ground over Denji, who he also considers an animal. - Of course, since we've been following Denji since the beginning, we know that isn't true. Despite Denji not being exactly in the moral good, he was very much justified in killing the grandpa and his buddies. He's someone who knows what it's like to have been at the very bottom of the food chain, but Katana looks down on him because he believes that those at the bottom deserve their spot there. It's a case of an ignorant, spoiled brat vs. someone who had to fight his way up. - This is why he loses, eventually. He underestimates Denji's intelligence. He assumes Denji's some sort of wild beast that attacks loudly and incoherently, but Denji's training pays off and he comes up with a plan that Katana can't anticipate.

Brilliant comment. It's so funny to me how he's insisting that Denji should apologize to him for killing a bunch of mafia zombies while the latter is the one trying to save an innocent human lady from being killed as an (easily avoidable!) casualty. Not to mention Himeno and the other already dead humans. Like if hypocrisy had a picture in the dictionary it would be Katana man. Just say you want revenge and skip on the moral preaching dude

"That's a pretty dumb reason",says Power to Denji in Episode 4,about his dream. This part of the series is Fujimoto going full throttle with his references. The last cigarette that Himeno gives Aki,with the words "easy revenge!" in english,is a clear homage to Fooly Cooly, and it's iconic "never knows best" cig. That entire scene is incredible,Ushio's music just elevates it. Hearing poor Aki say "I'll join you soon,Himeno" hurts everytime :( And then,we have the train scene, which is most definitely just Fujimoto wanting to show his Spiderman 2 fanboy-ism. He even has characters from his previous manga outright mention the movie in the exact same location lmao. But by far my favourite homage, and by extension, scene from this first part of the series,is the nut kicking constent. Not only is it 1:1 to the ending of Inglorious Basterds (Denji even mimicks Brad Pitt by saying something like "and that just doesn't sit well with me"),but it also seems to be paying tribute to Uvogin's requiem scene from Hunter x Hunter. Fujimoto wears his heart on his sleeve. I think that moment incapsulates the entirety of CSM and its author,to an extent: at the end of their mission, our squad has gained nothing. The government got pieces of the gun, sure, but getting revenge for Himeno didn't bring her back. That hole will never be filled again. So why is it that two dudes releasing their frustration on a dude by making him squeal looks so uplifting? Fujimoto is just trying to tell us to cling to life as hard as we can, even if it's the most absurd, meaningless things in life that keep you going. Your reasons to live,in a world as broken as ours, are still just as valid as anyone else's,even if it's just taking care of a cat, knowing what a boob feels like,or kicking a guy in the dick. His editor says that a big reason as to why he's earned himself such a gigantic following is because, being a guy in his 20's still,he understands the worries of his generation, the rise in poverty, the dehumanizing jobs, the cities that feel like soulless machines trying to swallow you whole, and puts it to paper. So I can only thank him for helping me find a lot of light between all the bleakness. I also love that it feels like,in the end, there's a lot of previous history between Sawatari,Katana Man and their posse that we're simply not privy too. We don't even get the dude's name, for god's sake. Chainsaw Man is very fast paced, yes, but I think it only adds to that feeling being kept in the dark under the government that just amps up the frustration and the sense of loss. Why did Himeno have to die for these nameless goons, just looking for revenge? It all feels so meaningless. Lastly, that door scene. In the same way Denji had that moment of realization at the start of episode 10,it always felt to me like something at the back of his head is telling him that he deserves none of the nice moments his life has given him recently. Love that the season ends exactly where it began:with that door dream, right before Denji wakes back up to go to work again. Nothing has changed inside him. Here's some trivia that's probably coincidental: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which is clearly a direct inspiration for CSM,was localized in Italy as "Non aprite quella porta",meaning "Don't open that door". Spooky. If you loved this part of CSM,stick around, because it really is a work that just keeps building and building upon itself, and becomes even better on a second read/watch,once you understand the bigger picture. Excited about what may come next!

About violence fiend, the Japanese term "bouryoku" does not specify violence into gang violence nor organized crime violence. "Bouryoku" means general violence and therefore the violence fiend holds such a strong power that being fiend is not enough to restrain his power, thus in need of wearing a poisoned mask. So Jacob's first interpretation is right about him being weaker but still so strong that he wears the mask.

What I find interesting is how vague the "Denji might have lost his empathy" thing seems to be. Himeno gave all of herself to the ghost-devil but the cigarette belongs to Aki. So it is a breach of the contract for the ghost-devil to have it. Code: Easy Revenge Something that makes speculation in this series difficult is that every devil has its own motivation and personality. Pochita was just a cute little chainsaw, but we've seen multiple devils have some kind of beef with him or desire for his heart. Some devils are basic in just wanting to kill and eat. One could argue that Power and the Bat Devil had the same base personality. Both had a basic devil personality but also found an individual that they cared for, Power with Meowy and Bat with Leech, but we see how these two diverged drastically after a certain point. Similar logic can be applied to contracts as each one is unique. The Fox only let's individuals she thinks are handsome summon her head while everyone else gets a limb. Future took so much from those other two, but basically gave Aki free futuresight for the fun of it. Snake asked for a fingernail to take out Ghost that wanted someone's whole body. Devils don't all operate on conventional logic, but some also do. The only verified things we have on the Gun is that it blew across two continents with an ocean between them and killed over a million people. We don't know why it did that. As far as we know, it was an accident when it grew unexpectedly powerful from all the fear generated. It is still evil but may not have intended to do something that big. It lost flesh in the process so it obviously is not indestructible. If you want to speculate on the deals it's doing now, after the news covered up gun crimes and gun laws were enacted, it was was weakened. It landed in eastern Asia and got stuck in hiding there to avoid detection. Now it's trying to slowly build power back up by reintroducing guns at a cheap rate. It doesn't want the same uncontrollable burst of power that damaged itself, so it doesn't make them absolutely free deals. It may want a gradual rate of increase in strength so that it can manage itself. Again, pure speculation as we have no verified data.

They did not say that Sawatari handed a gun and munitions to the people who made a contract with the Gun devil. They just said that she put them in contact with it. The pistols could have appeared out of thin air once the contract was signed for all we know.

The future devil actually does say it rules. However he loves death and seeing horrible deaths. So what is horrible and tragic to us, is awesome to him. Aki understands this when he says it. So basically Aki's death is going to be so awful that the devil is willing to not take anything from Aki in the contract so long as he gets to watch Aki die.

Easy Revenge 32:27 "'TWAS FORETOLD" LMFAOO Yes it was actually 😭 The kanji for Testicles/Kintama is 金玉. "金" Gold "玉" Ball/Jewel I have seen no discussions about what the gold ball in the opening actually signified but it's really just foreshadowing for Denji and Aki destroying katana man's balls 💀

I think the answer to why Denji doesn't feel anything when killing zombies is in the same previous chapters, it's not that he doesn't have his human side, it's that he never really had it because of how he lived and other treated him

Code: Easy Revenge Ghosts, especially in movies are known for finishing unfinished business, like how most ghosts are victims of abuse, rape, murder, and whatnot. Seeking revenge and the death of the ones who hurt them. The case for Aki is similar, with the Ghost Devil finishing Himeno's unfinished business with Aki, giving him the cigarette she promised to give him in his time of need. No different from the Snake's ability to swallow things and spit it out, because Snakes are known for swallowing their prey's whole. As for the cigarette, a popular theory before is that it was written by Himeno to give Aki for when the big day of killing the gun devil comes. The dream scene was shown in the beginning of the first ep, right before Denji woke up and got ready for work, before the fusion with Pochita.

Oh man, the post credits-like teaser scene was so cinematographic. The one thing that's really special about this adaptation, and it's a really good thing ngl. Also, it's insane to me that people that read the manga says this is the boring part of the manga, that it really gets good after this arc. WTF is coming man???? We'll probably only gonna see it like, a year from now, minimum.. But holy shiieeeet. Let's go. Also, hopefully Mappa slows down a lil bit (with the next season coming up, they probably won't). But I'd like to see a production quality like Bones with MOB (the whole season 3 being ready before it came out). During the last episodes from CSM, a bunch of staff was complaining about overwork, and little time to finish the episodes. Hopefully they come back better prepared with season 2.

I think the depth of the fear is important as well. Spiders are big scary, but your average spider can be dealt with via a rolled up piece of paper for your average person, extream phobias not withstanding. What are you going to do about someone coming at you with a chain saw, metal teeth slowly ripping its way through your flesh, unyielding chains shattering your bones with an ear splitting roar of its engine like the growl of an anger beast! Granted fear is fair subjective

Also the conversation at the end, when considering Denji's point of view, those mafia guys who turned into zombies didn't "try" to kill him. They successfully ripped him apart, they killed him, threw his body parts into a trash can disrespectfully. The only reason he's alive is because a devil chose to fuse with him. So ofcourse, the first thing he'd want to do, NEED to do, is get vengeance on the very zombies who just finished slaughtering him. So Denji had a great and justified reason to kill those mafia goons.

Just wanted to say, the power of the devils aren't equivalent to fear only, it is about how the concept's name sounds like, the strength associated with it. Fear can be one of the factors, mystery can too be another. Basically the Rule of Cool.

13:51 I immediately remembered the legendary "Uvo-san, do you hear us? This is our requiem for you" from Hunter x Hunter, Yorkshin's arc. Like the author for a funny reference to one of the coolest scenes with Spiders) 9:09 By the way, there is also a funny parallel with H x H. The dialogue of the "avenger" and the "villain" is false-mirrored. Instead of Kurapika and Uvo, this is the grandson of mafia-grandpa (who killed only sooome women and children lol) and Denji (who was grandpa's debt slave), and the "victims" are not innocent members of the secret clan, but the mafia-grandpa with his accomplices, who were turned into zombies)))))) For starters, what I like about Denji is that he's always true to himself. In one of the episodes he said that revenge is dark crap and he doesn't like that. And turned revenge for Himeno into a funny contest lol

What if it's not necessarily chainsaws that are scary, but the idea of dismemberment? I don't know how literal it is when it comes to the powers of the devils, but that's generally how I've seen it. It's similar to the bat devil where maybe bats themselves aren't scary, but the fact that they bring fear of disease and sicknesses.

Easy Revenge If you think about it. Aki smoking the easy half of the cigarette at the end signifies a few things. It helps him get over Himeno's death, it signifies it was the easy part with how quickly it wrapped up in the grand scheme of things. Lastly it leaves off on "Revenge!" Being unsmoked, which means lhes still dead set on throwing his life away to avenging his family against the gun devil with the little time he has left. This anime gave more post credits character drive going forward than fifty other Shonen protagonist wizard pirate shinigami ninja mayors goals for the future via smoking a single cigarette on a balcony in silence. Thats fucking cinema art!

The first part of the manga is composed of 97 chapters, which contains mini arcs inside, the anime adapted up to chapter 38 of the manga, still missing 58 chapters to finish the first part, currently the manga is launching the second part, where it is in the chapter 115.

Regarding the Gun Devil's marketing strategy: The Gun Devil is powered by peoples' fear of guns, right? Therefore their priority is to get the guns out into the hands of people who will use them, not to make money off selling them. The only reason they probably charge the 20000 yen is so that people will not dismiss them as not being a serious offer, while still being super cheap for the market. Also, while the guns may or may not be generated by the Gun Devil, I don't think the supply is affected by regular human transport that needs to go through plain everyday customs and excise inspections.

Theory: the Devils aren’t based of fear but of human views. Since Himeno is dead she’s part of the Ghost Devil and ghosts can be scary, dead people who wants revenge or to hurt lived persons, but also are our loved ones who protect us through the other world. Aki thought of Himeno and of a cherish memory of them so the Ghost Devil couldn’t sense his fear anymore and Himeno manifested herself through the Devil.

I feel like these guys are not respecting chainsaws a whole lot. I think all power tools are hela scary and they will mess you up if you are not careful. I admit certain horror movies have traumatised me a little with chainsaw related violence but even without that experience, the first set of instructions I received before using one was to hold it a certain way so it doesn't gore you up if the chain derails. That's when I noped out.
