Sadly this episode misses one of the biggest, most impactful reveals of the manga. The manga sets this up in a pretty clever way. Up until this point in the manga, all the inner monologues have been from Ichikawa's point of view. For 29 chapters before the new no-snacks rule is implemented in Chapter 30, we only get to see what's going on in Ichikawa's head. So we're safe to assume that any narration squares are still from Ichikawa's POV in this chapter, right? But then we see that when Yamada and Ichikawa are looking at the poster, in the untranslated manga there's a narration square with different font - a more modern, clean and kind of cute-looking design. This shows that there are two inner-monologues happening in Chapter 30. Person A with the brush-stroke font, and Person B with the cute-modern font. So now we head into the scene at 11:21 where Ichikawa and Yamada return to the library, and we go back to the narration squares with Person B's modern font. Because the inner-monologues in this scene are exclusively used with Ichikawa and we know from previous chapters that Ichikawa likes Yamada, this climax appears as if Ichikawa is re-affirming his love (suki) for her. The final panel of this little sequence shows both of them in side profile right as they touch, with the final "suki" appearing exactly in between them and right above their hands, sans narration box. On the face of it, it's already very clever use of the medium - the feelings were so strong they broke free of the narration box and, essentially, manifested within the scene itself. Cute! But wait. If you look at the untranslated manga, the final “suki” is written in the brush-stroke font of Person A, not Person B. Meaning that the person who realized that they love the other person is actually Yamada, and that this is the exact moment that she comes to realize her feelings towards him. Then Ichikawa's final voiceover as he leaves that goes "This is how it should be, over with, whatever" is actually in the brush-stroke font of Person A - it's Yamada thinking to herself that Ichikawa just blew through all her defenses and melted her heart. It wasn’t Ichikawa going, “my routine with Yamada is finished” but Yamada coming to terms with the fact that her denial is over. That's why chapter title for this in the manga is: "I Melted". It's Yamada's first chapter. Then just to make it clear that yes, that wasn't Ichikawa thinking that, we then shift back to the narration squares with Person B's font, where Ichikawa thinks that Yamada will never change. Just to show that the mangaka knows exactly what she's doing, let's go back to the scene where they're talking to the teacher. When the teacher says, "Sometimes people don't realize the obvious until we write it out for them," the mangaka is referring to both Yamada AND the manga readers - she's actually writing out Yamada's own realization, but most people won't catch it! And though it's obvious to us that Yamada already has feelings for Ichikawa, she doesn't realize it until he touches her for the first time. I understand that they had to make this episode solely focused on his perspective, because having a voiceover from Yamada would've meant that this subtle change would've been immediately obvious - but I can't help but feel that this moment was a miss in the adaptation. The anime rearranges chapters a little bit, so Chapter 31 that immediately follows the Chapter 30 library scene gets moved to Episode 9 of this season - and you'll see what meaningful thing happens in that episode when you get to it!

This show really just puts a smile on your face. These two adorable kids are floundering through their youth and every step is so sweet. Adachi is the kid we probably were in the throes of puberty, and that's why we hate it.

i really like that in this episode they deal with something a lot of romance skip: the difference between psysical attraction and actually liking someone, especially coming from young boys that are new to that expirience. Ichikawa doubting himself because he feels a sexual attraction for Yamada and being almost gross out by the idea that is not actual care but lust is very real and something you star understanding the more you grow up and get into new relationships.

Others have brought up the Milk Tea before. Last episode, Yamada mentioned wanting to drink some along with eating some Family Chicken from the convenience store, which she also got this episode. Ichikawa noted her want and that’s why she reacts so heavily to him giving it to her. There are also two manga Extras that the anime doesn’t adapt that confirm it is her favorite drink. All I’ll say is keep this fact in mind for the future.
