Dark has the best casting in any show or film I've ever seen, by far. This is the first episode where that really starts to become apparent, but you will be continue to be blown away by the casting choices until the very last episode. The theory-crafting is just as entertaining and in-depth as I hoped it would be so far! Love it.

You have to give a huge credit to the late Simone Bär, The casting Director RIP You mentioned some castings here but you'll see further in that this show is a masterclass in casting, not just having characters who look alike, but who are also great actors is an impressive feat. The casting is so phenomenal you can even form theories just on character's looks.

The actors all do a great job of really feeling like they are the same person as their younger/ older versions. there's one particular character (not going to say who) where I was genuinely surprised to learn that the older version was actually played by a different actor, as the older actor seemed so similar that I assumed it was the same guy wearing makeup to look older.

Just one small thing - ring hands are reversed in Germany. So a ring on the right hand does indeed mean that they are married, not engaged.
@matthew__creek5 күн бұрын
Not quite. Wifes wear the Ring right, Husbands left (mostly). While the right hand generally speaking is the "marriage hand" men mostly still wear their ring on their left hand. But thats a change that is relatively new and due to "not wanting to damage it" while working as most people are of course righthanded and looking at the last century, work in germany was mostly quite physical or involved machinery or at least some sort of physicality that could have easily damaged or bend the weddingring, which was, generally speaking, not removed at all.
@dearjoan6 күн бұрын
Cultural info: In Germany the wedding ring is worn on the right hand. Engagement rings are worn on the left hand and are moved to the right hand after marriage. Since ancient times the right hand was a symbol of trust & honor so there are still some countries who choose this hand for the display of their marriage status.

Twix candy bar was called Raider in 12 European countries until 1991. As a (not so young) member of one of these countries, you immediately feel this vintage/weird vibe when seeing a Raider wrapper in 2019. Yes, that's the original commercial you saw at the beginning of the episode. I remember that song in French. It's so cool and vintage... But Raiders have no place in 2019.

Mikkel breaks my heart. Poor kid. And they weren't shy in showing his parents as bullies when teens. The 80s were terrible for bullying.
@houseofsledge68916 күн бұрын
Yeah, as a school kid in the 80s, teachers and parents would SIDE WITH BULLIES and push back on attempts to stop bullying saying "kids have to go thru being bullied to grow up and become adults." I know cuz I heard that BS over and over as a kid. It was a nightmare. The idea of adults even interfering with bullying was treated as either a non-starter or legitimately talked about like it would be bad to stop it. Like bullies were providing a social service to the kids they attacked. Madness.
@annettelouise67816 күн бұрын

3:00 "Raider heißt jetzt Twix, sonst ändert sich nix." Is another very well known markwting slogan. It's the same bar from Mars Inc. When it was introduced into German speaking markets in 1976 (9 years after it was first sold in the UK) they went with the name Raider (aa you can hear, spoken like rider and not raider). But in the early 90s till 2001 Mars Inc. worked on a rebrand to sell the bar under the single name Twix. And this is where it gets interesting because when Jana, Ulrich's mom, found a wrapper it looked pretty well preserved for something that had not been sold for almost 30 years. But then again Mars Inc. tries to preserve their rights to the brand Raider for which they release so called Retro Editions every few years. So in late 2019 there was indeed Raider in German stores BUT it had a big RETRO EDITION printed next to the name on the wrapper. Oddly enough they were available also in early 2020. So yeah, when season two and three came about we had stash of Raider bars to munch on while warching the conclusion of this story
