All might said that the girl's name is Uraraka Ochako, which roughly translates to "bright/dazzling tea-child". Also, the kanji for "raka" in her family name can alternatively be read as "bi" (which in Japanese is pronounced the same way as "vi"). All of this combined makes it so that if you put a "G" in front of her name she becomes "Gravity child" (G-urabi-tea child).

Almost all of them do. For example, the bully kid "Bakugō Katsuki" contains kanji used in the word explosion (Bakuha), and Katsuki can basically be translated as roughly meaning "win by myself". I plan on commenting on as many as I can remeber as more characters are introduced.

the "Midori" in "Midoriya" means green, like the highlight in his hair, while the "Izu" in "Izuku" can alternatively be read as "de", which creates the insult bakugo uses for Izuku: "Deku", which can mean "weakling" or "one who can't do anything". It is very important to note, however, that the show will go into more detail about this name and how Izuku views it soon, as it is very important to his character progression.

At this point in the story I was impressed by this series decision to NOT instantly give Izuku full reign of his power, which is what many series would do. It's much more interesting this way.

You don't have to worry about the series getting stale. One of strong points of MHA is that all the side & support characters get proper personalities and character development. Even many of the future villains. It will just take some time for some of the characters, since there isn't time for everyone in every arc. Also, all the different quirks are well thought out with their benefits and restrictions so that they feel more "plausible". This is definitely one of the best written shounen series out there. :)

They kind of made the show really predictable in the sense that our main character, in a world of vast and unique quirks, all with their own strengths and weaknesses, gets an ability that literally embodies plot armour because he can just punch things when he gets really emotional and automatically win. Deku vs. Muscular being my main example. Or All Might vs. All For One. They both just got really motivated and pUsHeD bEyOnD tHeIr LiMiTs and one punched an enemy that greatly over powers them and that they stood no chance against. The ability that is One For All painfully stifles opportunities for creativity. This is most likely why this show is referred to as a generic Shonen anime, and why people love JoJo's so much.

@StereoSteve I mean, not everyone loves JoJo and JoJo also started off extremely generic and evolved over time. Hamon was such a generic power with nothing really going for it. Stands are amazing though. One For All is definitely one of the most impressive quirks in the series bcoz of its mythos. Besides there are so many interesting quirks in MHA. We can watch them unfold over time.

The point of the zero point obstacle is so obvious from the moment they mention it. BUT THEY EXECUTE SO FUCKING WELL I DON'T CARE. This is still my favorite episode/scene. I LOVE all the themes here. Bravery when the odds are stacked against you, protecting people, standing on your own two feet, I love the themes in this scene, and show. and I think she couldnt lift it because the debris just catches her leg so she can't get out, but stops her from twisting her upper body and reaching the debris, or at least not right after having it fall on her. That's my way of justifying my favorite scene anyway lol

Seeing ochako vomiting after using her quirks answers to what u were wondering : why didn't she used her power to lift the rock blocking her legs. She was exhausted with all the robots she destroyed and the more she uses it, the more it gives her sea sick or something like that :) ( u'll soon discover that there are benefits and restrictions in all of their powers )

No, it was the fact that she was trapped under the rubble and couldn't squirm around to reach it in time. Izuku had to save her because she wouldn't have been able to get her out in time. Your theory was good and reasonable, though.

4 years later, but Quirks do have a physical component to them that prevents them from being used indefinitely. Ochako is basically our first example of this, as she is seen visibly tired from floating the robots earlier in the exam. So her getting stuck is part "no time to think, in great pain from being under rubble" and "I'm too tired to even use my Quirk."

​@@itsh7311 He is. He's 7'2". The scaling for the characters are inconsistent a lot of the times, but All Might actually doesn't change his height with his "Muscle form." He just _looks_ shorter because he's hunching and without the musuclar profile, he looks way smaller overall. Kinda like you if you "fix" your posture right now. Though in reality that's also unhealthy because if stresses your spine but people call it that.

I watched the manga when it came out and wasn't even going to see the anime, but the animation and sound work added a whole other feel to the story. It's the cherry on top of a incredible cake. It's great to see it grow on you guys aswell! Can't wait to see your reactions on the other explosive episodes on this season.

If you don't already, keep an eye out for post credits scenes even though they don't always have them. Some are just nice additional fluff but some hint at important stuff. (I missed them my first viewing OTL)

Food for thought: You saw Midoriya use One For All for the first time, and he absolutely obliterated the zero point robot. Now, All Might still has his muscle form, so we can guess that he still has OFA, too. And he can control it and has decades of experience. Just what power output would All Might, as the number one hero, be capable of, and how amazing will Midoriya be once he can use his power without pulverizing his bones? Also, I can now confirm: Best girl has made her entrance, and it is neither Bakugo nor Ochako. And, to stretch this comment even further, if you lived in the Hero Academia universe, what quirks would you like to have? By the way: Quirks of family members usually have some resemblance, as they are pretty much genetic (remember the doctor talking with Izuku about his and his parents' quirks?).

I'd like the ability to be healed and regaining stamina from fire, just because it might mess with some villains and also heroes if I could just stand in flames without discomfort. It would also help with rescue missions, as it would be an almost literal walk in the park to search burning buildings and locate survivors.

FonVegen I would love a support quirk. Like one that would suck if I were to be alone in battle. One that I always thought about because I want to know what Hagakure looks like is "identification". Which lets you know what your opponent's quirk is, it wouldn't blatantly say what their weakness is but it would give you enough information about the other person where you can think of a good strategy against them. And with mutant type quirks it kind of strips them down, for example if you were to look at that guy with stars on his head from episode one you would be able to see what he looks like without them (which is the main selling point because I want to know what Hagakure looks like) or maybe you were to look at Iida you could see the inner workings of his gears. So it's good when attacking with other people to inform them of the opponents and to find someone amongst your party who would be a good match up. Other than that you don't have any real powers.

Honestly thinking back at it this show might beat every other one with the Bektel test issue. You have a lot of great girl characters & they arent used for fanservice like in sth like Fairy Tail which does have even more female characters but they are mostly made into spank material. For a Shounnen Boku no hero academia has a surprisingly even field for both genders

yugoxgc The Bechdel test is a horrible way to judge how well-written a show is with regards to female characters. Either a female character is well-written or not. For example: "Oh my god, Becky, look at her butt." passes the test. Not exactly the most wonderful piece of writing is it?

Freya K No. Having a bar at all reduces the meaning of a character being there. It increases the amount of characters made to simply mark a check off of a list. The very thing the damned test is trying to prevent. Good, deep characters (of any kind) are best when they naturally come to the mind of the author. Forcing an author to do anything usually ends up with forced, empty, shallow writing. Besides, people like to forget that themes matter *far* more than what a character is. Any girl can learn the themes of Deku's arc as well as any guys can. Any guy can learn the themes of Ochako's arc etc. *THAT* is what matters. Universal themes. Everything else is decorative and shouldn't forced into place. And like I said, representation/what role they play doesn't matter. Either they are well-written to begin with or not

Actual the is a "Magic age" there all in the summer before the freshman year of high school, they're take a placement test to get into the one of the top high school with a hero stream.

23:11 I enjoyed the big fights in RWBY (first two seasons) everything else was cringe and eye-rolling for me. I did start season 3 and it definitely picked up. Kinda wished that show started off better. The original teaser trailer had more hype than the show actually was for me.
