Spoiler free explanation: THAT WAS NOT EMILIA POSSESSED BY SATELLA. THAT was an Emilia that went insane because of: 1- the villagers blaming her for the snow; 2- Puck not being there for emotional support; 3- Repeating the Trial multiple times. Subaru was only able to survive the bunnies this time because he used his "apostle of Greed" authority so that the Ryuzu CLONES would help him get to Emilia. Echidna and the other witches are not locked up in the graveyard. They're DEAD. Those are just their souls.

@ thing is about re zero, is that because every character isn’t always the most reliable w/ what they say, when someone like Roswaal says “I isolated Emilia to drive her insane”, a lot of ppl just ignore that line of dialogue and blame Satella. In a way, I think there’s an obvious reason behind it. It shows off the fearmongering that Satella & the witches dealt with. That just like every other character in the series, who act human & jump to conclusions, the audience does it too. That said, they made it ambiguous in the beginning for that reason, and then explained it later so it’s surprising ppl don’t accept what Roswaal said

Fun fact: there are two different musical tracks used as Roswaal's theme. Up until the moment that Roswaal reveals to Subaru that he knows about Return by Death after killing Garfiel, the theme is "The Clown's Mask". But, for the first time in the entire season, after that moment the music switches to "Margrave Roswaal". This also marks the moment that Roswaal stops speaking with his usual quirks for the first time. Because the clown's mask finally came off.

Back when the dog Mabeast attacked the kids, one of them was separated. Petra was all "There's a girl missing" while cursed dying on the hill. Subaru went and saved her and the whole Rem turning into an oni for the first time happened and Subaru got bit by all the things, then after the whole ordeal they mentioned that someone must've been controlling the Mabeast and that the one girl had disappeared, correlating that she must've been the one behind the attack. She was also the one who led Subaru to the tiny puppy Mabeast which cursed him all those times.

I think you guys got the wrong idea about "Why Emilia was possessed by Satella" in the previous loop. It wasn't because Subaru wasn't there to console her, so it made her sad and more prone to be possessed, but it was probably just a Penalty of Return By Death because Subaru said "I can Return By Death" to Echidna at least 10 times. The last time Subaru managed to say it, it was to Emilia and it killed her. Saying it too many time was probably what summoned her.

So yeah, one important take-away I feel is missable is that Roswaal knows Subaru can restart, but doesn't seem to understand the mechanism by which he does so. He was beating the shit out of Subaru because he doesn't realize that death is the trigger. He assumed that Subaru would need to be alive to use his power, so Roswaal just decided to beat him until he gave up on the timeline and went back.

This isn't a spoiler but something that you should know about this episode that isn't explained in the anime is Roswaal's knowledge of Subaru's ability. Roswaal knows that Subaru can reset time but he doesn't know the means at which he does it. In his mind, Roswaal believes Subaru can reset time at will and tries forcing him into using the ability by beating him, like he does in the cabin. He doesn't know that Subaru has to die in order to use it. This is why he says that he cannot kill him. Once the rabbits show up, he believes that Subaru will reset the timeline to prevent himself from dying. If Roswaal figures out that all Subaru needs to do to reset time is die, then that would spell disaster.

He tried to force Subaru to choose to use it by beating him up, but he didn’t want to kill him because he needs Subaru alive to redo past choices. They actually mentioned how Meili was the culprit of the mansion arc (or as I like to say, how she was the owner of the Bald Doggy) in season 1, though they didn't say her name. I believe it was Roswaal who mentioed to Ram in one of their night chats how the culprit was one of the kids and that she got away after the incident. She was also the only one Subaru didn't know by name and was noticibly absent from the second cour of the season (I noticed that clearly because the blue hair was memorable).

I firmly believe that Satella is some far future Emilia gone very badly(And with Satella being able to control time it would make sense) but I think it is pretty easy to see that Emilia losing it here has nothing to do with Satella. Reasons why Emilia being just a vessel makes no sense anyway: -The cultists kill her. -Satella was shocked when Subaru stabbed himself but Emilia sees rabbit eaten Subaru and doesnt even flinch even a bit. -Most importantly, RBD kills her. So basically everyone in universe only think that she is a vessel or connected to her. I am anime only tho, if the WN/LN have more info dont bite me. And yes i know the author has said that Satella and Emilia arent the same person but technically that doesnt apply to alt future/versions of a character.

I'm going to clarify this right here, but Emilia was NOT possessed by Satella, at least to my understanding. This time, I mean. It's not 100% clear what happened to Emilia in the previous timeline where Satella did show up. However THIS time, what actually happened is that Emilia just.... broke. Without Subaru there for her, she ended up attempting the trial on her own, over and over and over, for basically a full 24 hours. And she didn't succeed once. What you see her turn into at the end is partially because she relied _too much_ on Subaru.

Currently rewatching this show after the S3 announcement and let me just say that this theory at 34:50-ish was unfortunately not paid off for the Bros in the Anime. I think it was implied many times in Part 2? Maybe? (Yet to reach it in the rewatch), but the *real* ending to Arc 4 actually pays this theory of theirs quite nicely. Hopefully, there is another Director's Cut before S3 begins, and they show that ending. It would be a good mystery to have in the back of people's minds as the story goes, ya know?

Pretty sure Satella appearing was because Subaru, while being with Echidna, said "I can Return by Death" many many times (whether or not she actually possessed Emilia at that point is unclear, but also not necessarily that important for now), and here, it's just Emilia being broken mentally, not possessed (I'd say the fact she says "daisuki" and not "aishiteru" like Satella is a big clue).

I don't get why Caleb thinks Echidna learned everything about Subaru from just that one trial. She said she can't read minds, and there is no reason to think she knows more than what was shown in the trial. It's more logical to think she knows about Subaru simply from observing him through some other method.
