Man, it would be such a moment if SZA wins AOTY. Not only does she deserve it, but she would also be the first black woman in 25 years to win AOTY, since Lauryn Hill. This moment is needed.

Love language is my fav song off this album. I can play it on repeat in my car any time of the day lol. Especially since it samples an Aaliyah song. And not an Aaliyah song that was an album cut, she sampled a song Aaliyah did for the “Romeo Must Die” soundtrack - which was such a great and fantastic choice. The first time I heard it, I recognized the sample at the end and when I googled it, I was surprised it was a sample from the song “I don’t wanna”. - which is one of my fav Aaliyah songs

SZA is such a deserving album of the year winner. It is a masterclass in an artist allowing themselves and being allowed to experiment in all different types of music and showing the pretenders that she is on another playing field entirely. I love how you mentioned her wide range of influences and interests, she is very smart with how she uses all her references while keeping them distinctly her. My favourite songs on SOS are Low, Love Language, Gone Girl, Nobody Gets Me (song of the decade imo), Shirt and Good Days. All that being said, Taylor will win because the Grammys want to cash in on the Taylor Mania even though she doesn't deserve it 😒 kinda like with Renaissance losing to Harry Styles because he was the it-boy of music in 2022 for some reason.

The one we've ALL been WAITING FOR 🤩with baited breath 🤤 The amount I had this album on repeat 😭 the perfection of its imperfection with intention STILL astounds me. I'd really love for the Grammy's to live up to our hopes on this one. The disappointment would be rather loud for something that would give magnum opus if it weren't for the fact that greater and greatest work is still coming from her. I'm so excited by the artist she is and is becoming and this body of work speaks volumes to that. It just hit the psychic and emotional pulse of our life and times in a way works so rarely do now a days. You saying "heard of it" is something I need in alert/ ringtone form 💛

I agree 100% SZA’s vocals are incredible and SOS had a massive impact this year. I think some swifties automatically think that taylor deserves all the adwards (such as album of thr year) but they have to reliaze there are GODDESS and GODS of artists/albums that deserve album of the year imstead of midnights. @mileythings9333. No she didn’t. I’m a Swiftie but the other albums - SOS, DYKTTATUOB- even Guts, made by a 19-year-old, are all arguably much better than Midnights. Midnights not only features some of the weakest songwriting of Taylor’s career, it’s also very bland and lacks real depth. It’s a good album sure, but definitely not AOTY material.
@MarinaBird-ct5rg11 ай бұрын
@mileythings9333 You’re delusional. Just because I don’t worship everything Taylor has ever done, doesn’t make me “not a fan”. I’ve been a fan since Tim McGraw was released when I was 8. I love SZA so much, not just as an amazing singer, but for her energy and character. She’s unafraid to be vulnerable and doesn’t worry about appearing perfect to others. *SOS* is an incredible album, and its success rightfully placed SZA among the A-listers. I listen to “Low” countless times every day and never get tired of it. With each song, you discover new layers of her talent. Plus, she avoids drama and focuses solely on her music. I truly adore her.

For me, it’s been such a cool experience to see SZA’s trajectory as an artist. I’m a huge and long time fan of the whole TDE roster and have been following SZA’s career since inception. Her ability to weave between so many different genres as a BIPOC artist spreading mass appeal has been such a gratifying experience. I follow a lot of your content not because of just Taylor Swift but I love your reviews and takes on pop culture in general so to see you speak on genres of music and reference artists I listen to like Aaliyah or Lauryn Hill was quite interesting. Okay so I have to be honest. SZA’s music is not for me. I haven’t liked any song so far and kill bill was one of the ones I disliked the most. It’s just not my style of music. I am admittedly more of a bubble gum pop girly. I know some people hate that and that’s totally okay. This is just my opinion and what my ears enjoy. With that being said, I decided to watch this video even though I knew I probably wouldn’t agree for two reasons 1) I really really like you and value your honest and unfiltered opinions so I wanted to make sure I gave you a view and a comment to help your algorithm lol and 2) I wanted to at least attempt to be objective in a space where it’s very difficult to be considering music has so much to do with personal taste. I learned a lot more about the making of this record and I didn’t realize how popular this album was which became apparent after you shared some of the stats. I think you’ve convinced me this album should win. My favorite albums in the category are obviously midnights, guts, and endless summer vacation because those are more my style (I also feel like Miley’s record is getting really underrated at this point because I absolutely loved it and I feel like no one is talking about it. Flowers was actually one of the least interesting tracks on the record and it hurts that nothing else really got picked up.) But now I think I’d be happy if SZA won because even if it’s not “my” album of the year, it sounds like it was “the” album of the year for a lot of people. And I definitely agree that Taylor needs to be pushed again. She’s on top of the world and I’m afraid that could be a detriment to her art. Midnights wouldn’t have had anywhere near the hype and longevity if it wasn’t for the eras tour.

realistically, i think that it's between SOS and GUTS. Both were the highest critically acclaimed albums released in their respective years and have had massive commercial success. Lana is of course in the running too, but she's always snubbed and the commercial success isn't as present as sza or olivia (which is fine, tunnel is still a phenomenal record). SOS is objectively a better record than GUTS, but GUTS might have an edge over SOS due to two main things: 1) it's more unique, and "innovative" compared to the other competitive records in the category and 2) the GRAMMYS/critics LOVE albums that are about womanhood/what it means to be a girl in the modern world (take Fearless and Melodrama for example). SOS has the latter for sure, but is a much less confessional and direct way than GUTS. While SOS comments on womanhood/being a woman in songs like special, it's a bit more indirect. Meanwhile, with GUTS, there's aab, lacy, mtb, pip, and teenage dream. As for the former, Olivia is bringing back pop-punk/grunge into mainstream pop ESPECIALLY with GUTS. The GRAMMYS love when artist's do something new or different and do it well (take billie eilish winning for WWAFA, WDWG when really NFR should have won). Overall, SOS is the better record and I think it should go to SZA, i mean the mainstream penetration and overall quality of that album is insane, but i think Olivia still has a chance given what I said above. she's been everywhere on tv recently, her name is all over most end-of-year song and album lists, idk, just food for thought. lmk if your thoughts/if you agree or disagree :)
