I remember a french teacher asking what it was, I replied in honest. A glorified sports chant sang by children and drunk adults. And yet better than any song released in England.

In the USSR, some composer, on the instructions of the Communist Party, wrote songs about different factories, he got to the wire factory and wrote a funny song about wires, something like "wires, wires, wires, there is no place in the world, where wires would not serve" . Somewhere, there is probably a record with the performance of this song in the communist style - with a women's choir, pipes and drums. An epic song about wires - I think this can compete with an epic song about a saucepan.

I'm happy to say academics from New Zealand have concluded that Welsh is no longer an endangered language and in a few centuries, everyone in Wales will speak it. Activists from New Zealand have also come here for inspiration on how to revive Maori...but that was before the pandemic and other stuff. It's futile to predict the future. We can only say that if trends continue etc. Marianne Hancock

I've just read that Welsh is the fastest growing language in the UK as people have been learning it during lockdown. Just before the pandemic, academics in new Zealand had already concluded it was no longer endangered. I'm so glad. When we were kids, we expected it to die in our lifetimes. This was especially sad as it had declined due to oppressive policies such as the Welsh not. We should always stand up to bullying. Marianne borrowing Roger's computer

A wonderful folk song. At first glance, it is simple, but, on a closer look, it is smart and deep, because it is about the meaning of life. I have heard English people laugh at this song, thinking it is stupid: hahaha, the pot is big, the pan is small. In my opinion, Wales is one of the most interesting song cultures in the world. @@aoitrekt1109 How long do you think Isreal, Poland and Germany have been countries? Ancient Isreal was a very prosperous and strong Kingdom for a long time, one of the main reasons why was because it had access to the sea, and was rich in resources similar to Egypt, you're talking as if everyone who surrounded them weren't constantly fighting eachother, Isreal had a considerable advantage over its enemies for quite a long time in the ancient world until the threat of Babylon became a thing, the Germanic tribes had a really good position too, the alps served as a good defense against the Romans as did the Rheine, had the Rheine and the Alps not existed the Germans would have ended up like the Gauls, the Romans were able to win battles and conquer the Germans West of the Rheine but were unable to cross any further, not to mention the dense forests made passage nearly impossible for Rome, also Germany became one of the strongest Empires in Europe for a long time, the Holy Roman Empire, which had a pretty good starting position had it not been for religious disputes they would have remained a superpower longer, Poland's position was rather far from Rome, and the Romans tried to soften them up with trade but unlike the Britons, this did not work with Poland so Rome decided not to conquer them, not to mention that the neighbors of the Polish tribes didn't pose a significant threat for a long time, during the middle ages is when Poland's position became somewhat dangerous, with the Teutonic Order pressing on them from the west, but this wasn't even much of a problem because the Poles defeated them on several occasions, then when the Tatars and Mongols moved into Europe Poland again found itself in danger, but eventually during the third Mongol invasion the Polished repulsed them with a smaller army en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_Mongol_invasion_of_Poland Poland entered an Alliance with Lithuania and formed the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth. This, is when Poland's position became trouble, Poland's army was one of the best in Europe for a large ammount of time with their Winged Hussars and everything, Poland managed to conquer signifcant parts of Russia, and aquired lands in Belarus, Ukraine, and many others, unfortunately Poland's Nobles were not very bright, and they tried to pressure the Cossacks, who were keeping Poland's southern border safe from Tatars and were constantly fighting them, into paying taxes, this was one of Poland's greatest mistakes, the Cossacks were obviously angry since they were serving as a borderland army for Poland and were not even being paid for it, and now the Nobles wanted them to pay taxes, the Cossacks rose up in revolt in southern Poland and proved to be a great threat, to the North the Swedes with one of the most most modern and expensive armies were running out of money and so they turned to the presperous lands of Poland in order to pay them, the Muscovites to the West saw this as an opportunity to take back their lands and absolute hell broke out for Poland, Cossacks fighting them in thd South, Swedes in the North, and Muscovites in the East, Poland ended up winning the conflict but they were severely weakened, and lost many territories, Poland saw a second round if this in the 1700's that ultimately saw it's demise, with Prussia invading from the West the Holy Roman Empire from the South and Russia from the East it was over for Poland, but thsy2 had a really good "starting" position as for Rhodesia they were doomed from the start, but the other three not so much

I used to call this song 'Saucepan Ra' having occasionally heard bits of it sung on TV - usually at rugby matches - thinking that 'saucepan' must actually be completely wrong and that I was just substituting an English word which sounded like the actual Welsh one which must have some more profound meaning. Even when I saw this as 'Sosban Fach' appearing on my KZbin homepage - I assumed that it must be that rugby song - and I was still thinking that Sosban must mean something profound!
@mariannehancock8282 Жыл бұрын
The proper word for pan is 'padell' but an English loan word has crept in. Perhaps it is profound. It's not just a nonsense song. It's about how everything mutates over time.

I found the comment about similarity to Russian song. I am Russian who studies Welsh. I've never heard this song before our lesson a few days ago. And my first impression after hearing it was exactly the same. It resembles songs about Red Army and some other songs written in the beginning of the 20th century, for me it's very interesting as it means not only me saw the similarity
