Ironically, I found your channel seeking help/knowledge to diagnose problems with my deceased wifes AR556. Id bought it for her just before she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Being a lover of all things Ruger, she'd acquired a respected collection. She admired my finger dipping into the AR world and with her interest peaked, I bought her a AR556. The gun was far from a shooter out the box. Sending the gun in for warranty repair got put off because all efforts had turned to her for treatments and the hell that comes with that journey. Anyway, Sandy passed 5/18 and her AR had been sitting in the safe since. Last week while shopping AR parts locally I came across a 15" Ruger handguard that was a takeoff on a new rifle. It was time to make Sandy's rifle right. I bought it and a Troy gas block to replace the A2 front sight on the Ruger. With that done I searched why the rifle never cycled from the beginning. Besides the bolt having metal shavings within, it was determined the buffer spring was a couple coils short and too soft making for a noticeabley weak spring. The buffer itself was light compaired to a couple others I had squirreled away. I noticed the buffer also had some chips on its bolt face from striking the buffer retaining pin. The gun does cycle now as it should but it still strikes the retaining pin and a search is on for a offset buffer retainer pin. The gun should've been sent to Ruger for repairs long ago but the situation just didn't allow such. Now I wonder just how poorly would this AR556 spec? I came across your videos while seeking help/knowledge to get Sandys AR running and ironically your newest vid is checking just that! Im enjoying your videos and have learned so much from them. Thanks for your time, effort and desire for the American Rifle!

My second was a SR556C. An absolute freaking tank of a rifle, heavy for its size but it is by far the most reliable AR I own. Ironically my first AR was a DD M4V4 I got a year prior and I've had feeding issues with it the whole time I've had it, from bone stock to the various upgrades I've done.

Can’t wait! My shop has sent back more Ruger AR556s to the factory for issues than any other gun combined. Worst thing I’ve seen is a toss up between Ruger taper pins which is the only manufacturer than cross pins on top of the barrel, having them fall out after placing one new ar556 on my work bench, and the other worst thing I’ve seen is a terribly clocked barrel extension so bad a bolt wouldn’t close properly.
@garrettpittman73744 ай бұрын
I think my sfar barrel extension was clocked and caused peening on my bolt...if they knew anything ab what they were doing they would have caught whatever caused it in the first 2 trips it came back to them...and esspecially after they replace the bcg and barrel or so they said
@sithyarael68074 ай бұрын
Wow I have never had any issues with mine. Shoot great.
@1014p4 ай бұрын
@@garrettpittman7374your a sample size of one, remember that. Not saying there aren’t issues. My Ruger products being 3 now are issue free. I find it odd the barrel extension is out of alignment. As far as Ive seen most barrels are assembled by machine and not hand. So my thought is if there is an issue like this, likely a batch off a machine needing repair. My major criticism is surely something like that is caught by QA, guess not in this case. Remember this SOTAR guy is no where close to a typical armorer. He has more tools than anyone I have ever seen just for AR-15/10.
