Thank you for putting this out there, I recently bought a resinator for playing slide. Learned more in twenty minutes tonight than in the seven months I've owned the guitar. Really helped me understand the keys!

I don't know what it is about this track but just being in the beautiful key of Gm, the slow soulful melody ... I don't know, all I know is that this track is my go to in order to get in my zone every single time! It's a classic in my book with no doubt.

This is my favourite backing track ever. The mix of minor and major chords is so fun to play.
@keithbarlow9701 Жыл бұрын
Playing along with this track finally made a few things "click". Mostly simple stuff I've heard over the years but I didn't really understand how to utilize it. I knew playing form 1 scale starting at root is my major pentatonic. Move down 4 frets and play the exact same scale---that's my minor pentatonic. That seemed like a really handy trick, but I didn't understand how (or when) to deploy it. Playing with this track taught me when to play major pent and when to play minor pent. And how to make a smooth, nice sounding transition between both positions. Also, I'm starting to utilize the other 4 pentatonic shapes more often. I'm no longer stuck in the box! Form 1 pentatonic is so overrated 😂 It feels good to *finally* get some practical use of the bits of theory I've accumulated. I might be able to trick people into thinking I'm a decent guitar player now 😂

I began to play the electric guitar in 2019. I really couldn't tell how many times I've played along this backing track of yours ever since then. It makes me "hear" so many great melodies. What I would love even more, a shorter 3 minute version of this.

Yeah that clearly won’t work. Do you honestly think every single mode is suitable for blues? That’s silly. And there’s no reason they should be

Combine Mixolydian with the Blues scale for this: 1-2-b3/3-4-b5-5-6-b7. That’s 9 out of all 12 notes; even b2-b6-7 can be used in chromatic passages on the way to an inside note. The b3 must always resolve upwards to 3, and never the reverse. Start by being able to play the 3 and b7, the tritone, of each of the 3 Dominant 7 chords; they will be located all 3 right next to each other on the same pair of strings. Because the tritone is the only interval that looks the same when inverted (3/b7 or b7/3), that means the IV chord’s tritone is DOWN one fret and the V chord’s tritone is UP one fret. The tritones will also form a DIAGONAL LINE right across the fretboard (in at least 2 places). Being able to “comp” (play backing chords) by being able to quickly locate these tritones all over the neck is the best way to be able to grab the absolute best 2 notes for each of the 3 Dominant 7 chords. Experiment with this and you will quickly see what I’m pointing out. Tritones rule!

When I first started playing again, I wasn't really into this backing track much. Now that the same old I-IV-V blues progressions have started to bore me, I've suddenly realized this track is absolute gold! It's an absolute playground for Dominant 7 chords! The C#dim chord thrown in there just adds flavor we won't see in any run-of-the-mill blues tracks. We're definitely modulating to a different key, (maybe more?), but I'm not really sure where because its so brief and not enough context to say exactly where....is this a good example of V of V changes? Plus I'm thinking this is 6/8 time as well which is just even more icing on the cake. Thank you Sebastien, hope you are well!
