So from what I've been able to read online, the person he talks to in the beginning is his comrade Silas. She was a member of his mercenary group who later became the group's leader after siegfried "disappeared." I think there is also hints that they had a very close relationship, with Silas possibly having romantic feelings towards siegfried as well.
