I want to make a brief comment about their heraldry! Im a HUGE Soul Drinkers fan, and I wanted to make my marines in Space Marine 2 as accurate as possible... So I reached out to the writer of the Soul Drinkers, Ben Counter, and he responded! Any Soul Drinker rank Sergeant or below has BONE trim on their armour! The icons on their chest are still gold, but the actual trim of the armour is bone. A Sergeant, likewise, will have a bone-coloured helmet instead of a purple. Once a Soul Drinker reaches any rank ABOVE sergeant, the trim on their armour will become gold rather than bone. So if anyone wants writer-approved Soul Drinkers colours, you can go for those :)

The Imperial Fists absorbed a Thousand Sons loyalist chapter at the Battle of Cthonia. Given their behaviour, I can't possibly see a connection.

Soul Drinkers are my favorite Space Marine chapter, I even have a kit-bashed Sarpedon and Tellos. I love their story and the tragic nature of them just trying to make Big E proud.

I’ve seen some people try and relate them to the Emperors Children. People do forget though that EC had a very stable geneseed after the purges happened, and the soul drinkers certainly don’t. It’s why they couldn’t be imperial fists either. It was directly said Dorn’s geneseed was one of the most recognizable for how stable it is. (Despite sons of Dorn missing a few parts most astartes have) If we keep narrowing down all options using this information, it leads directly into a brick wall of no explanation that fits the soul drinkers. Except, there is evidence if not outright mention of the Ultramarines and Imperial Fists absorbing the left overs of the 2nd and 11th legion. Given the Soul Drinker’s founding is so close to the 2nd founding (or perhaps IS the 2nd founding, both 2nd and 3rd are mentioned) perhaps they are genuinely sons of Dorn, unknowingly made up the remains of a legion now lost to time. That or Alpha Legion geneseed also fits distressingly well!

You do forget that the Geneseed only started being unstable after their encounter with Abraxes and the entire second novel was just them trying to make it stable. Also my favorite chapter is Soul Drinkers and my favorite legion is Alpha Legion and I can safely say they got no fucking connection. Would I accept them being sons of Alpharius? Sure, if there were any actual sources. But so far the only connection people have is that: "Alpharius also used a spear" That's fucking stupid.

Genuinely interesting if you have a quote or a page number to back that one up. As for the Alpha Legion one, there is no direct evidence, they’re just one of the few remaining candidates working down the list of possibilities. I have other reasons to back it up, but no solid evidence as I may be misremembering a detail I recall hearing from a heresy novel about a alpha legionary consuming the flesh of a fallen combatant and gaining not just the memories but physical feelings and emotions. Not a trustworthy claim though as I genuinely don’t recall where I heard that anymore.

The Imperial Fists legion absorbed an entire chapter of loyalist Thousand Sons following the Siege of Cthonia. These strange Fists were observed past the Siege of Terra, which leads me to assume, besides gene seed issues, that the Soul Drinkers are likely a Thousand Sons successors chapter.

About 15 years ago, I bought a box of sci fi books from ebay, and one of them had this stupid picture on the front you see at 5:45. I didn't read it for about 5 years, it was the Soul Drinkers Omnibus. That was the first time I had ever heard of W40K. It started a fascination with the whole lore of Warhammer, and I have not seen anything on them until just now-Luetin09 apparently doesn't think they are worth his time, unfortunately, so I appreciate you putting this up. I have never had a chance to find out the rest of the story, or whether or not Tellos is the same character mentioned in other lore videos. Maybe NOW Luetin 09 will do a deep dive on this. THANKS for putting this up.

A lot of loyalist traitors were honored by being allowed to be 2nd founding chapters. Guilliman and Dorn especially covered for a lot of them, and we know this from the silver skulls being the scions of Barabas Dantioch. You also gotta remember it's been like... 8,000 years since the 2nd founding. Think of how long ago that is by RL standards.

​@@nicholasperfitt5803 well you see the main series is 6 novels but between the 5th and 6 novels, a novella was released which was like a prequel. If you buy the new omnibuses (I think they are still being sold on Warhammer site) you will also get the prequel novella in the 2nd omnibus. Current Primaris Soul Drinkers have a novella called "Traitor by Deed" and a short story which was collected in the succesors anthology called "The Phalangite Ascendancy"
