I always thought it was called "potliquor"? Very informative. Thank you for sharing.
@KendraValentine
@KendraValentine 7 жыл бұрын
It's called that as well! (or originally) I just used the colloquial spelling since I'm talking specifically about greens, and 'pot liquor' is the French it comes from meaning all pot juices. It was a personal style call ;) but good catch and glad you brought it up! Thanks so much for watching and don't hesitate to share!

You could probably make a good soup out of the left over liquid from the greens!!
@KendraValentine
@KendraValentine 3 жыл бұрын
Yes! And I have! I’ll take the liquid along with a bit of greens (and often little bits of smoked meat Ieftover in there) and just add some kind or starch (rice, potato), beans , short pasta.... OR my favorite: little stuffed tortellini. Maybe a little stewed tomato depending on my mood as well

It existed, there wasn’t a name for it. Or we didn’t name it.

That's precisely the point of making such a bold statement, to call attention to the fact that it was not named as such until that point in history, nor was there a common sense of what a typical Soul Food menu would consist of... and for good reason. Thanks for watching!

While I agree with the vast majority of what you were saying, I would like to add that in fact, W Africans weren’t vegetarian. They were historically pescatarian. Seafood was a predominant ingredient in cuisine eg 🥘Thieboudienne🥘😋

Fair. The point was that it was vegetable-based day to day not meals designed around a chunk of meat every single day- what ever meat. That would include seasoning a pot of food with dried fish, etc. Thanks for watching!

Currency collapse is happening worldwide, and it will destroy all of us, but God is in charge forever. Look at Lebanon, Venezuela, USA, etc. etc. We can lose material stuff in seconds, and the bodies, that protects our sou.l Living here is a test from GOD. You are on team God, or team satan. Little known fact: All of soul food is indigenous American food. The food and the cooking techniques. There is an indigenous species of rice in American called river rice or Indian rice. That is the kind of rice we eat. The ancestor to the okra plant abalmoschus manihot is ingenous to America and it is my theory that like us genetically modifying teosinte to produce corn, we genetically modified abelmoschus to get okra. All of the food items on your plant is indigenous to the Americas. Fact check me.
