Great review! I can't wait to get mine. I just wished they carried over the Hover Pilder from the previous release with the clear canopy and folding wings. Other than that, this looks amazing!

The head sculpt in this Chogokin is in fact more alike to the GX-01, in the series the second half had the more square head of the GX-01R (so it was a striking contrast to great Mazinger, in the first Half of the series the head was more pointy. I'm waiting for the figure but I agree the blue is very light.

Snowmation Bandai is such a huge company and has tons of factories at their disposal so their resources allow these beautiful toys to be made with care. Other companies rent out a factory for a while and dont keep in top of QC so crappy paint never gets taken care off.

maddwoba Other companies make high metal content figures but so far havent quite executed the perfectness in everything. The paint, detail, finish..everything is excellent on SOCs amazing seeing its a mass produced figure compared to lets say Fewture who in my experience slaps tons of metal and then fails when it comes to paint finish. How does a $500 figure have fingerprints in the paint?! anyways, Bandai...King of diecast

RocketPunchArmy "King of diecast"??? Bandai chogokins since at least 5 years ago has had disappointing amounts of diecast and an overabundance of plastic kibble/accessories/litter. Lots of technical detail but little soul in the Soul of Chogokin in general.

RocketPunchArmy Thanks bro, I already got mine and I was curious if there were any changes or improvements than the previous versions. I did some research and it seems it's still a gx31v with metallic paint. This soc is heavy and I love it as much as my soc Daltanious and Daitarn 3.

Gravewolf you have good taste in Gokin, Dalt and D3 are two of my favorites in the line.

They were my favorites as a child and my collection now is about replacing all my lost robot toys along with getting the ones my parents didn't buy me lol. The clover Daitarn was a really fragile toy at the legs which I broke immediately after transforming. My dad tried repairing it with super glue but it wasn't the same anymore without the transformation. The irony with me getting soc Daitarn is that it's such a pain to transform and some paints get scratched so I refuse to transform mine. In the end I still have a Daitarn I cannot transform :)

Juan Soto This is much better overall than the Gokin SD which is a great figure, but you can beat the heft, feel and overall quality of this. The SD pales in comparison, unless of course you prefer the SD style. I have both but If forced to give one up, the SD would ave to go...but I would be sad

Well, part of collecting is having to wait some times to get other stuff. I did wait for the Mazinkaiser from Maxfactory. I got him last year (mint in box) for $120.00 less than I would have had to pay at the time it came out. It'll keep this one in mind.

Juan Soto Very true. I am very impatient sometimes and it bites me in the butt later on...especially with SOC. Expensive on release, price drops on Amazon, goes back up and when sold out, prices skyrocket until the eventual reissue...

I love the weathering, but still think the lighter blue color tone & new head sculpt aren't as cartoon accurate as the GX-01R. Even the 40th anniversary DX Mazinger had a darker blue tone. Dunno why they suddenly decided to change the blue color tone after all these years. Still, Great review.

as far as the "new head" is concerned ......the new head is actually not new at all. the newly sculpted head is from the soc Gx 01r+ version which was extremely limited and came out a few years ago.
