Raziel hated his undead form and what he had become after Kain damned him to the abyss. But in this moment, he condemned himself for what he had done to Janos as a human. Like Kain said himself, Raziel believed the Sarafan were noble and altruistic. But only here did Raziel realise the sarafan were more monstrous than he could ever imagine, including himself. Damn! Raziel truly is a tragic hero!

Well, the dawnguard is significantly more justified. Vampires in Skyrim are the parasitic spawn of Daedric rape, while Janos is akin to an angel.

As a player, I hated this part... but as a watcher, it's one of my favorites: the way Raziel is torn apart by Janos' fall is priceless. I never thought I would see a being like Raziel so at the brink of tears. It reminds me to the Epilogue in Defianca... Kain's final line is remarkable. D.R.

In hindsight its amazing how you never even meet Janos until very far into the game you only hear about him from other characters. Then when you do meet him it's pretty fleeting and he's such a likeable character who's death devastated you. Just goes to show how outstanding the writing is in this series.

SPOILER: Raziel is really a vampire messiah (he heals Kain of Nupraptor's madness and sacrifice himself to make Soul Reaver for Kain) and hylden champion ( he "kills" Kain to acquire Heart of Darkness from Kain chest and resurrects Janos Audron which he becomes possessed by Hylden Lord / Hash'agik / future Sarafan Lord) Janos in Soul Reaver 2 thought that Raziel is Scion of Balance (wings etc.) but he was wrong. Scion is Kain.

It was such a brilliant twist that the human Raziel was the one who killed Janos. At the the start of the game, Wraith Raziel mentioned to Kain that he believed the Sarafan were saviours. Here, that belief ends up being completely shattered when he witnesses how savage they were. And shows disgust at his human self.

@Mrtvababa Time travel - when Raziel encounters him in Defiance, it was actually moments before he died - when Raziel first sees him, he's speaking telepathically to Kain, calling him to the last fight (you hear this after killing Moebius in BO1) - the 'Come to my, my undead son..." speech. After he speaks to Raziel, he teleports out - going to the Pillars to meet Kain (and ultimately, his death). He knows this is coming, as he makes clear in his conversation with Raziel.

Amy Hennig was the director/writer and Richard Lemarchand was the game designer- both left Crystal Dynamics. The voice actor Tony Jay and Crystal Dynamics employee Kyle Mannerberg passed away. Despite the easter egg of the Soul Reaver sword in Tomb Raider, there was the idea of a game called Legacy of Kain: The Dark Prophecy, but 3 months into production it was canceled.

Kain himself described time as a huge torrent on a river that is unaltered. In reality, this explains the volume flow rate, where passing a large volume of water through a narrow tube does change the speed but not the final amount of water falling from the outlet. They replaced the water with time in the game, where the final outcome of events are unaltered.

It all depends on the POV. As far as humans knew, Janos fed on humans. Sarafan Raziel couldn't see the difference between Vorador (who I rate as a nasty Vampire) and Janos (who is a good one). Vampires feeding on humans is what caused the Sarafan to be created in the first place.

Janos seems to be modeled on Béla Lugosi with his portrayal of Dracula in 1931. Béla was the very first vampire on-screen. Lugosi was Romanian, so maybe it was a Romanian accent.

Janos gets such a bum deal in the legacy of kain story. Janos lives for centuries alone. Janos is killed having his heart ripped out. Janos is resurrected, only to be possessed. Janos' possession turns him into a monster until he's freed. Janos gets thrown into a demon dimension never to be seen again. Maybe the writers forgot to add in he had a happy family who died, had a puppy who got thrown into a blender, and accidentally blew up the planet while their at it.

this is one of the most crutial scene i think. this event sparked vorador to kill 6 of the 9 guardians, and malek was delayed by mobieus and raziel from saving them. and the black heart was used to raise kain as a vampire.

Poor Janos, the folklore of mankind made him seem like a monster, but he's really a compassionate being. I was happy when he was resurrected in Defiance, but then sad again when he got trapped in the demon dimension in Blood Omen 2. The last ancient caught in the realm of the mortal adversary. He'll either die quickly or not at all. I'm sad now...

I guess it's like how Dumah, even though he was impaled, could still be brought back to life one the lances were removed. I like to think that Janos isn't dead, but in limbo like Dumah was. You have a point, but remember from Soul Reaver 2 that the Elder God is not in a single stationary place. His presence is throughout the Spectral Realm, even under the Pillars of Nosgoth. His manipulations is what started the war between the Hylden and the Winged Vampires. But I hear what you're saying, they could possibly continue with that chapter being closed. They had planned one called Legacy of Kain: The Dark Chronicle, but the idea was shelved.

I know why the sword wanted to take ion Raziel's soul, because in Soul Reaver 1 it didnt try to do that. In this game it didnt try to do that until he killed his formal self and in Defiance it sucked in Raziel's soul because If he didn't kill his formal self than none of the things about the reaver taking in his soul would happen

@WweUndertaker2 the reaver wanted him because he infact is the soul inside of the blade, it had a desire to become whole again, he discovers it at the end of soulreaver 2 that he is the spirit inside the real blade, hence why the wraith blade was able to bond with him so easily.

Since Raziel is now the spirit of the purified Soul Reaver, I don't really see how he could return. As for Janos, Kain still has the options Raziel's sacrifice granted him and so Nosgoth could yet be saved, perhaps Janos as well. But we'll never know since two very important people behind the game passed away and Amy Hennig left Crystal Dynamics.

No real way to test your theory, since you can't unequip the Reaver, but this would be the rough equivalent of completing all 6 fights without taking more then 5 or 6 hits - even for a master of the game, this would be a difficult proposition.

Kinda gets what he deserves imo, considering that he engaged in a blind, genocidal crusade in the name of the Elder God and his Wheel of Fate and banished the only race that resisted into eternal suffering. Raziel is so sympathetic to the Vampiric cause but is like ''oh, so the Hylden were a race at war with the Vampires, cool''. He doesn't seem particularily moved by the fact that Janos would've banished/killed him for the same reasons he did the Hylden... ah well, loose plot thread I guess.

no dude, the blood is all the way to the celing. it covers the crystal. it;s a damn glitch, and so I had to erase my file, and have to redo everything. at times i would swim, other times I was walking around in the blood like it wasn't even there. so fucking frustrating.,

He doesn't remember anything of his life before he was raised as a vampire. He had some gross misconceptions about what he and the Sarafan were like; that's the bulk of his character development though the game - realizing that he wasn't the righteous saint he believed he was, and coming to terms with his new self.

@@TheRatzor They weren't biological brothers, but they consider themselves brothers after being raised as vampires, with Kain as their father. (I believe it's the Soul Reaver 1 intro where he mentions this.) Regarding their memories, I don't think it's ever directly addressed, but it's likely handwaved as a result of their very different method of resurrection - perhaps Kain purposely did something to make them not remember their former lives when resurrecting them as vampires (because it would have been inconvenient for him if they had), whereas Mortanius specifically wanted Kain to remember his previous life when he was raised (since his resurrection was the result of a bargain Mortanius made with him in the afterlife).
