3:05 when that melody hits, I'm not musically inclined to know a more accurate word, but all I know is that its soft and welcoming. The whole theme exudes Janos' solitude turned isolation and finding someone who doesn't see him as a monster to be killed, and the prophesied hero no less is there to greet him.

An absolute masterpiece that i've loved ever since i heard it the first time. Now, a decade later i still return here to listen to this haunting but soothing tune. It somehow renergized me when i'm feeling down.

'haunting but soothing' - tell me about it! it's not often you can get goosebumps while also breathing a sigh of relief! it's quite an experience, and... i'll probably keep coming back, and i'll KEEP getting spooked by the ads that pop up at 500% volume that ask me if i want to TRADE WITH CBT STOCKS

Makes me think that this theme captures the fact that Janos has serious case of depression due to being the last of his kind, the loneliness and isolation and of course seeing his own vampiric human offspring being slaughtered affront of his eyes.

Kain: Thirty years hence, I am presented with a dilemma... let's call it a two-sided coin. If the coin falls one way, I sacrifice myself and thus restore the Pillars... but as the last surviving vampire in Nosgoth, this would mean the annihilation of our species... Moebius made sure of that. If the coin lands on the reverse, I refuse the sacrifice and thus doom the Pillars to an eternity of collapse. Either way, the game is rigged. Raziel: We agree then that the Pillars are crucial and must be restored. Kain: Yes, Raziel, that is why we've come full-circle to this place. Raziel: So after all this, you make my case for me. To end this stalemate, you must die so that new Guardians can be born. Kain: The Pillars don't belong to them, Raziel... they belong to us. Raziel: Your arrogance is boundless, Kain. Kain: There's a third option, a monumental secret hidden in your very presence here. But it's a secret you have to discover for yourself. Unearth your destiny, Raziel. It's all laid out for you here. Raziel: You said it yourself, Kain... there are only two sides to your coin. Kain: Apparently so, but suppose you throw a coin enough times... suppose one day, it lands on its edge.

You know what's fun? My brother, some months ago, tossed his coin for fun. It was spinning in the air. It landed on its edge, perfectly, without flinching or moving. Twice. In a row. We both were amazed - as we thought of this sequence from Soul Reaver 2. I am 100% positive that Kain achieved this at the ending of Defiance.

This and and the light forge theme are probably my favorites in the soundtrack. What seems like just a combination of random drawn-out sounds is actually a very subtle and soothing progression that occurs very slowly. Sometimes it seems to be reaching a climax and retreats to earlier sections or introduces a new sound. And then you hear it reach its peak when all things combine and the main melody materializes from the dragging sounds. It's very beautiful and powerfull in a raw, primeval way.

+BathroomTile - Superb comment. It's my favourite 'sleeper' track of the OST too! Like the title, I also retreat to a listen every now and then (occasionally on repeat for the nostalgia) as it was such a subconsciously ingraining listen whilst I was stuck figuring out the blood cauldron puzzle during Raziel's ascension to good ol' Janos. Curse that Kain for the wingless-ness lol. Ah once again, it is truly great to see you picked up on the nuances and it is oh so well articulated because I was about to put these same feelings into words but you saved me the effort. Thank you very much. (Hope KZbin notifies you and lemme know, yeah?)

Its quite clever, the various sounds in isolation sound near menacing in tone almost as if describing the initial view on Janos being bloodthirsty and evil, and as it progresses, almost as if on a path of enlightenment to how Janos actually is, it becomes serene, pleasant, and warm.
