All of that will hold on forever, but gameplay is utter crap. That's why the franchise die. Mario for example has mantain relevant with fun gameplay even when nowadays his games are way too easy, like baby easy they aren't fun and then we have devil may cry V, the story is barely ok, the dialogue is cheesy fun but nothing nowhere close to even Blood Omen 1 and Yet It lives, because the fun hack n slash and style combo and shit you can do, the insane difficulty, graphics, style, art direction, enemy designs but it ain't perfect.....it has flaws ( I dislike the entire level design and later stages are super generic) So Basically you need Gameplay to survive. Legacy of Kain never understood this, but perhaps it was for the best.

Military games use tactical terms which the average person finds smart because they don't hear it in everyday conversation. Fantasy games tend to use old English which sounds a lot smarter and archaic versus modern slang. Which is probably why I prefer these kind of games :)

you can download a rom for PSX and play it on pc e.e or there is a version in GoG.com that is optimized for new PCs and runs really well. i got the latter e.e and i still love this game

I agree with many that say this game should be remade. I personally find Raziel absolutely intriguing. Hoping a complete makeover won't include drastic change to character appearances. The storyline is the best ever without question as is the music. Upgrade this sh*t and make it happen!!

I was a kid when I played this game. It's hard to describe, half the dialogue I didn't understand a lick of it. However something (And I think this goes to show just how special the Legacy of Kain series was) in me resonated with the games. I KNEW that the way they spoke, the tone. This not just a game but a work of art. That is truly an accomplishment if you can make a child even realize that, even if they don't understand it.

It used to bug me that Kain didn't suffer the same devolution as his kids. I reckoned that after Raziel's execution, he used the Chronoplast to time-travel to Raziel's return. He might've planned all of this from the start, even before Raziel grew wings. The Nosgoth game (which would take place after Raziel's execution _and_ Kain's sudden disappearance, which left Kain's empire in disarray) would've confirmed my theory if it wasn't canceled.

I think theses games are brilliant! The story within them are fantastic. They inspired me to start writing. As a project of my own I've written two books on the events taking place after Legacy of Kain Defiance. I spent a year studying what fans wanted to see and wrote it in to the story with knowledge of the games overall. I wasn't going to do 2nd one but when info about the Dark Prophesy appeared, I studied that and wrote that with elements of what 'would happen'

What I really find well made is that the way of explaining the gameplay is done in such a way that it still sounds fitting for the world you play in. Instead of saying something like "When your HP goes to zero you die" it´s "if you fail to feed or absorb to many wounds, this fragile matter will dissolve".

Okay. This ground-breaking game came out for the original PlayStation, a 5th Generation console, in 1999. Now that the 8th Generation has begun, it would be q great time to reboot the Soul Reaver franchise. This time, however, I think the game's central playable character should be the vampire Raziel as he appears in the opening cinematic scene of this game. He looks so awesome, I can only imagine what a deadly, predatory warrior he would be, especially with his wings. I could imagine a storyline in which his clan is attacked by a Sarafan army or some other threat, and you have to defend your clan its territory. Maybe the story could involve trying to ask Kain for help during the attack and receiving none. After barely fending off the attack, the ending would be Raziel going to Kain for answers, and to warn of a larger impending threat to his clan, but it would end with the intro to Soul Reaver, and instead of helping Raziel, he destroys his wings and casts him into the abyss, allowing his clan to be wiped out. I don't know, that would be a good starting point for the storyline I think, a good basic outline. More details and subplots could be added, as their writers were always so masterful at exploring. Make it happen! Please, o wise video game gods?!

dirkbogarde44 I don't think so. When playing as Raziel, you are always in the blue "Soul Reaver" form. I know that's how it was in Soul Reaver, Soul Reaver 2, and Defiance. In Soul Reaver 2, you fight against Sarafan Raziel during the game, but you never play as Sarafan Raziel. Personally, I'd rather play as Vampire Raziel, the way he looks in the intro to Soul Reaver.

@venomousstring if I remember correctly, in an alternative ending, Raziel would devour the soul of Ariel, and together with Kain rule supreme in a Nosgoth falling apart. Obviously this got skipped quite early with the plans for Soul Reaver 2, but didn't stop them from using the pictures ^^

These are the most badass vampires in vampire history, these vampires are at the top of the food chain, they can manipulate fire, water, sunlight, earth, almost all elements, they time travel screwing up timelines and not caring, raziel phases through spectral and material worlds, he eats souls, his weapon is an extension of his soul, he lost his jaw and lower torso, and came back and slayed all of his bretheren, what more could you want. Soul Reaver!!!
