The guitar instrumental intro up to :08 has the total feel of a Keen/Specialty/pre-RCA Victor Sam Cooke recording. The sheer artistic beauty of "Wade In The Water" here is that no other instrumentation is needed, this is the raw, in-your-face, gospel presentation from "the old church," undiluted by present day hip-hop influences that have all but destoyed true gospel singing as presented here. Thanks for posting.

we need as much of this online as exists...every second...the Soul Stirrers, fronted by the amazing singers R.H. Harris and Paul Foster, are truly the pillars upon which modern popular music rests...this is soul, rock, blues, jazz, funk and doo-wop...in it's purest form...hard gospel...this one knocks me out every time...

Paul Foster is not the most polished singer the Sou Stirrers ever had but for some reason that I can't quite put in words, he is my all-time favorite. My Soul just seems to connect with him somehow.

@soulman1950 Actuall we ahd great music in the UK we also had and have some great UK gospel ledgends ie Lavine Hudson, John Francis, Basil Mead and many more....We also had gospel record imported from the USA ie Mahalia Jackson,James cleveland, the O'neil Twins and many more, so we did'nt miss out that much.

@KmbrlyRoc2 No, That's LeRoy Crume for real. Bob came before LeRoy, But LeRoy took Bob's place because Bob was sick and couldn't make the programs. LeRoy got the respect for playing guitar like Sam got respect for lead singing. But I'm not taken anything from Paul Foster. He sings from his soul!! Respect to all of the Crume brothers. Rufus (Rest In Peace), Dillard(Rest In Peace), and long live Arthur Crume and LeRoy Crume.

Sam Cooke had been singing secular by the time the Soul Stirrers recorded this on his SAR Records label in 1961, therefore, I would suggest it is after.
