I wish I could play this character. Between the stance switch combos, just frame moves, 3B with different launch combos on counter and regular hit, and weird situational lethal hits, I always feel like doing so much work for standard punishes. I could just play Groh and get lethal hit 3B off of sidestep punish.

I love love love Raphael I’m this version specifically because I play a lot of the more defensive more dedicated characters, well at least now, used to play Mina but In this game I wanted to really take it up a notch and learn Raph, one thing you could do more is use his back b+k as it parries those reversal edges for a well hopefully guaranteed Bb, haven’t gotten the chance to test it because Xbox online is no bueno also being able to play Ladon helps lol. We live like 25 mins away from each so the practice is great but gg’s hopefully I play you soon since he talks highly of you.

Great play! As a new Raphael player I am enjoying the style he uses, but have trouble against sidesteps since he has a lack of horizontal attacks. Do you or anyone here have any advice for counter this with Raphael?

Mushumessiah Some good horizontal Tools for him: 4A (stuns on NH for additional Combo follow up) 22_88A.A (can be followed up w/ his 10 frame punisher 6B ~ iPrep ~ B.K 3A (Decent Mid that LHs upon 4th Hit) A.B or A.A (interruption) Prep A.A (great Mid Mid interruption can Combo) Prep 6A (long range horizontal whiff punish, best used from farther range)

Crash X99 Raph needs SC reliance for big DMG. Ivy is just... well Ivy. I would say Raph takes more dedication and work, he’s like a Defensive DPS Character. Focus isn’t on DMG but of punishment, interruption, & defense.

I noticed you don't use the lethal hits Raphael has to punish missed horizontals, verticals, etc. Do you think they are not worth doing?

Revenan7 Oh, no. I wasn’t fully aware/knowledge of ALL of his LHs prior to this session. I was familiar w/ some, but didn’t know when to rightly implement them. Some of them are situational or just tedious. It all depends what works in the moment/MU. I do favor his 46B LH. It’s condition is on a whiff punish. There’s more that aren’t too bad. I am still learning him altogether.

His lethal hits are awful imo, far too situational unlike most of the other cast. Also hes a whiff punish/ defensive character might as well just do standard moves. I do like his 46A LH tho. Its great against strings that end with a high horizontal since he ducks while he does the move. Very satisfying. Overall the character already requires alot of work so im not too surprised with his LHs. Im an E2 and still learning new tech.

Jay Bo I’ve studied his LHs and found which ones are more likely to land: 46B (whiffed Vertical) 3A (upon 4th Hit) 214B (upon whiffed UB or Guard Break Attack) FC 3B (Upon whiffed Grab attempt)

@@AmyLionheartArtistry Yea those are the best ones. 46A is fun but it's better to just duck and punish and dont get me started on 46K... geez. 3A is the one ive tried working into my play the most. Trying to find setups where 3A interrupts so that i can get a free combo when i need one. I always feel like im missing out on spacing or pressure tho like i could be doing something better than a 3A.

@@AmyLionheartArtistry Not true, I have been on several matches and it showed character arts for edited characters, and other instances where it shows the CaS cards for edited main characters as well, that means there must be a way to have the character arts viewed during the VS screen, I'm actually trying to figure out how people do it myself XD

I think Raphael needs to be nerfed, he has far too many stun attacks that are blazing fast and his reversal edge cannot be dodged AND it can be canceled, it takes one hit from him to easily string combos, even the best players will have a needlessly hard time with Raphael, its like fighting Yoda all over again.

IzanagiXZ Did you just compare Raphael to Yoda, what? He doesn’t need any nerfs. He lacks in good Horizontals and is VERY Linear. His signature mid 66[B] which stuns on CH is hella Linear. It’s easily stepped and punished. Him cancelling RE is game breaking/good, but he by all means isn’t even Top Tier. His true Max DMG comes out of iPrep, which is very execution heavy. He legit has no good Horizontals outside prep and even so inside prep they’re interruptible/GI able/Parry-able.

@@AmyLionheartArtistry I thought his weakness was that he lacked horizontals, but two things - You can cover that weakness by executing a quick horizontal, which can be used to stance yourself and continue with the vertical barrage in case anybody thinks of moving left or right because the thing about Raphael is that he can string combos infinitely, as seen in the video, and in case it hits you stun them, and from there you can guess what comes next, so you win either way. - his verticals are so fast you can't reasonably dodge them, at best you can make a rough guess of what attack the players intends to do, but if you have to guess instead of rely on reflex you know you have something broken (a fact made more damning when facing against players online and trying to account for input lag), needless to say if you guess wrong thats 1/4 of your life gone, Edit: Managed to learn a third pint, in case you miss or your enemy is behind you you can always spam that dodge thing of his. 1:19:40 thats BS right there! XD Again with most of his attacks being capable of stunning (including the horizontal ones) it becomes easy to string combos behind it so side stepping doesn't matter, almost nobody has a chance of recovery, meaning it usually only takes one hit to be SCREWED, and thats just not fair. Honestly i have only defeated a good Raphael player once and that was due to absolute sheer luck, I doubt I will beat the guy again (and he probably knew that...)
