Gibt auch fertiges LPR 35 auf 13cm-Reels, zum Beispiel bei Thomann. Habe aber auch schon längere Bänder auf meiner Revox B77 passtend für die Uher Report umgeschnitten. Übrigens super Videoserie zur Report!

Ja, hab ich mittlerweile auch entdeckt. Finde gut, dass man direkt wieder für 13cm Spulen Bandmaterial kaufen kann. Habe dank deines Kommentars jetzt auch nochmal nachgeschaut und festgestellt, dass man jetzt auch endlich 270 Meter Band auf den 13cm Spulen bekommt, sprich dieselbe Bandlänge als wenn an aus einer 1100 Meter Spule vier kleine macht. Lange Zeit haben die bei Thomann für 13cm Spulen nur 30 Minuten Bänder pro Seite verkauft und da war das selbst aufspulen dann doch noch besser/günstiger. Auf jeden Fall vielen Dank für den Kommentar!

@@soulfreshdays Richtig, liegt daran dass die bisherigen 13cm-Spulen dickes SM900-Band waren, was viel besser zu einer dicken Studiomaschine passt als zu kleinen Reportergeräten. Das LPR35 hingegen ist super dafür, kommen sowohl meine Uher Report als auch mein Telefunken Magnetohpon 300 prima mit klar. Finde das Magnetophon 300 für unterwegs aber noch etwas besser, da es dünner und leichter ist als die Report. Dafür hat die Report Stereo, kommt also immer drauf an was man machen will. Für Hintergrundgedudel unterwegs reicht aus meiner Sicht aber auch Mono, gerade wiel es ein Halbspurgerät ist und man so die doppelte Kapazität kriegt. Ein Bekannter von mir hat die Viertelspur-Variante der Report, da kann man diese kurzen Bänder dann sehr effizient nutzen.

Regarding the tape thickness issue, you should be able to get thinner "Long Play" tape in addition to the master tape. The base is thinner, but this should not be an issue. Some old tapes, especially on 3 inch reels were very thick.

hi i know you can get pancake 1/4 inch in some places they don't sell the pancake black boxes any more i have a otari mtr 12 with the pancake discs my reels were getting old zonal tape i use yes it has a very clean sound alot don't like one bit bake tapes is a right pain to do and it doe's not all ways work note when baking the ampex the dia of the hubs get smaller so i have to move tape to hubs it doe's not do this to i have a rew - ff unit i can put the reels on good i got the thing many times in ff mode all the tape came apart all over the unit brown bit's of tape the tape was dead before it hit the oven

Thanks for the video! I just received the Uher 4000-L and while I think it's powering on, I can't get it to play or fast-forward/backwards.. Any idea what the problem might be?

Just a little bit. It is always difficult to examine something like this with youtube comments. Can you hear any motor noises after you powered on the device? The old Uhers are constantly running the motor, wether it is playing something or not. Only the later IC models will only power up the motor when you are playing, forwarding or whatever. When you can hear the motor after the device is powered on but nothing is moving, than it is possible that the belts are broken. After all these years the can become loose (so that they could not have much power to turn the reels), sticky (so that they leave dirty black residue on the circuits and all the black gue has to be cleaned off with alcohol before inserting new belts) or so dry, that the fall into pieces. But you can easily get replacement belts for the Uher Reports and they are not that difficult to install. Watch part one of my videos about the Uher Reports and you will see how the should fit inside the machine. When no motor noise is coming from the device after powering it on, the motor could be dead or the power supply has problems. The power supply does have a little fuse inside, maybe the fuse is dead if you have luck. If there are any failures on the circuit boards, then I am sorry, cause I am not the right contact for that, cause I do not have much knowledge on electronics or talent to replace or resoldering stuff.

Thanks for the thoughtful comment! At first I could hear the motor (that's when it was still playing) but then it suddenly stopped.. So it might be the powersupply. Still I do think it's powering on, because when I turn it on and press 'record' I hear a click that I only hear when it's on.

Aren't heads on normal 2-head tape decks demagnetizeable by just putting the deck into record mode for a few moments, since both erase and rec/play heads participate in recording process (given AC bias)? Granted, that won't have any effect on capstan and tape guides, but then one has to worry about that extra magnetism erasing recordings, not just degrading playback quality...

It is an interesting idea, but I dont have any proof on that as well. Nevertheless, the magnetic field of a demagnetizer should be a bit higher than the demagnetizing head in any given tape deck or tape machine, so that this should still be the best solution for demagnetizing.
