I bought my uher 4000 in 1961, 59 years ago and it still works perfectly. I bought all the optional devices that I had and they all work perfectly. The leather case is in perfect condition as if it had been recently purchased. In that time I bought and disposed of any amount of equipment of all imaginable brands and I do not have them because they were damaged over time. The sound quality of my uher is extraordinary and competes with any modern equipment.

OK. Now I know there' someone more crazy than me. I din't thought about driving around with my Uher... but :) Thanks for an idea. The answer why your Uher stops is that it has positive ground. When you connect it to the car radio, you short negative ground of your car with positive ground of Uher. The solution is to cut ground wire of signal cable and put large (1000u+) capacitor. Positive terminal towards Uher. This will prevent DC (power) from shorting yet allowing AC (music) to flow. IMHO connectig via BT kills whole idea of analog sound.

You may already know this, but reason your UHER deck stops playing when you both attach the power adapter and AUX cord is that it's a (unusual these days) "positive ground" device: it takes negative supply voltage by using your adapter's ground as negative supply rail and adapter's positive voltage as its ground. In other words, instead of taking 0V (V-) and 6V (V+), it takes -6V (V-) and 0V (V+). So relative to your car's electrics, UHER's common ground is +6V (or how much voltage that adapter puts out) - AUX cord connects UHER's "common ground" +6V to your car stereo's common ground 0V, effectively shorting out its power supply through it. I've encountered the same thing making a wall power supply for my machine - with line in plugged into it, it works in some wall sockets and dies in the others :^) It probably could be fixed by using an audio transformer thingy aka "hum killer" aka "ground loop isolator" - to "dereference" UHER's line out voltages to the car stereo, that is, if you still want to connect it through AUX.

I've done this a couple of years ago, when I repaired a Report Monitor 4000, and demonstrated the repaired machine to the owner in my car :) Of course I wasn't using Bluetooth :)

Sounds cool. Nowadays it is pretty obscure to use these inside a car. The bluetooth solution is only for solving that problem, but I must say that a solution is never bad when it is working fine ;-)

@DF Radio: Your Uher Caradapter (Uher 6V Autonetzteil) was to expansiv. You can this item im Germany new for 20 EUR.

Edit: Hier stehts www.uher-erinnerungen.de/infos.htm#Unterstuetzung
