Shit like this gave me so much confidence when i started getting into scales and improv. Im mainly a metal dude but whenever i tried some heavy backtrack i was chasing the track up,trying to shred which i was clearly not capable of at the time. Your backtracks helped me learn and savor the sound of each note (and relation to chords), I actually started developing my own vocabulary rather than running up and down the shapes hoping for something interesting to come out.

This is a great standard for us as musicians to work on our on style ! I can't read or write music but was lucky enough to be able play and find my own style over 30 plus years. Being self taught has been a challenge to say the least. I've come up with a backing solo for this within minutes of listening to it. But I can hear the structure for the main lyrics. I may do a ruff recording of it if I'm given permission to do so. Keep practicing and find your style.
