@@longroadproductions9242 fortunately for me, the only band that I was in that was brave enough to pull off the song, was when I was playing double bass. I had a unique style, in that I incorporated percussion style drum kit patterns that proved to be very effective. This drummer is a monster for sure.

There is something strange about comments about guitarists. Commenters want to display knowledge about music or skill level or “competition”. I think the contest is over. All these guys won. It is really cool that Marcus wants to play with John and vice versa. I think musicians are like parrots: people always want see parrots “do their tricks”. The bird sits there very intently watching, wanting to learn something interesting and new. Musicians are up there speaking their special language. They are intensely intent on everything. We’re lucky to see spontaneous combustion like this. Thank you. And fire the “lighting director”. Did he not show for the sound check and block the lighting. He definitely isn’t at a talent level commensurate with the on stage talent.

@jonRboy
@jonRboy 5 ай бұрын
@@seongomez4903 Well, part of it's him, but a large part of it is the fact that he's a jazz guy and has a lot of 'stuff' to draw from. Stuff that is out of reach from players in the rock and blues box. Scofield can do all that stuff (the blues and rock stuff) + he can do the jazz stuff. More choices for him to draw from. With that said, I'm not saying jazz is great and the other stuff sucks...jazz just is more complex harmonically. I loved King's solo and in general blues rock playing.

Daniel Donato. Has a good 50 minute set from Denver on YT. Bunch of young dudes doing their own take of 60’s psyche country. Look him up. Out of Nashville. Kid plays cosmic country and can play some of the cleanest fast licks. He’s like Clarence White with some Garcia, Dickie and Duane thrown in there. Personally I find Marcus King and Gary Clark overrated, but it’s mainly because I’ve gotten tired of electric blues the past couple years. Delta blues rules all blues anyways… lol

I sat front row at a small theater maybe 5 years ago or so and watched him play from about 5 feet away. His view the whole show was my slack jawed dumbass. Went home and stayed up all night trying riffs I watched him play. Kids a fucking prodigy. For $30 it was the best bang for my buck since Gary Clark Jr. played 6th street. I just so happened while on vacation to walk in to a bar he was playing. The two luckiest shows I’ll ever catch. Everything’s right in this world so long these boys carry the torch lol.

Bill Orme, I feel ya completely. To anyone who opined anywhere in the the comments linked to this video that either of the other two gentlement sharing the stage with Scofield here are superior or equal to his abilities, well, it's instantly clear that you just don't understand music with much depth or harmonic to scalar insight, and that's okay, up to a point. The thing is, though, that some here have gone far beyond that point, in making ridiculous statements such as, "Scofield can't hold a candle to Marcus King." I mean, that's actually hilarious. King has a nice, full rock tone, and dips his toes into jazz-fusion type phrasing with aggression and rhythmic confidence, if less harmonic acumen or true improvisational sophistication. In certain settings, I really like things I've heard from him. But, I'll tell you what, if you ever get the opportunity to watch both of these players under current discussion play on a non-modal jazz tune - say, a bop type standard like Cherokee or All the Things You Are, well, you come back to me and tell me if your position still holds, after that performance. And, if it DOES, I'll know all that I need to know about your musical education and knowledge. Perhaps one day, Marcus King will develop to the point where he could genuinely give Sco a run for his money in more challenging settings. But, I promise you, that time is some ways off still. Truly, it is.

As a student of the guitar for 25 years ranging in studies of Pat Martino, Wes Montgomery Erick K, Trucks, Trey, Jimmy H, and many other fusion players my opinion is this. Marcus kings phrasing, dynamics, and over all execution was beyond these two. From a technical perspective Marcus’s technique was way above both of these amazing guitar Gods. Not sure if Marcus just jumped of the buss from a string of tours and was in the zone or what but he literally blew both of them out of the water. From a technical perspective I would say Jimmy Hearing and Derek T could definitely humble Marcus a bit. He’s literally so good fo his age. Throw down key changes every measure and I’m guessing John and Erick would look a lot better. I’ve seen both Erick and John at the top of there game and this ain’t it.

Three amazing guitar solos! I’m glad Scofield went last because no matter what came before in a song, he’s always going to take it somewhere else. After the super smooth phrasing and atonal ideas in the first two solos, he starts with his signature long, snaky phrases, enters Jeff Beck territory, and then has some fun with vowel sounds on the wah. Always funky and unpredictable, Scofield is a master who keeps getting better.
