Great vid Josh. We carry these at work (Milano Music Center), and one day they just started showing up with the plastic inserts with no explanation! At the time, there was no mention of it on their website or anywhere else on the web I could find (I see it's there now), so this is the first time I've seen it described in detail. After some dinking around I figured out the slight sound change and, CRUCIALLY, the low F#. I can NOT stress enough how much easier the low F# is with the insert in. It's quite amazing!

Very nice comparison of the mutes. The sounds are distinct & quite different. I liked when you added the reverb audio effect. Great review, Josh! Thank you for creating & sharing.

The wah-wah hands were fabulous to see & to hear! Classic mute sounds. Very cool.

Man, who would've thought a tiny piece of plastic could change the character of the mute so much...great video as always, Josh! :)

Thank you, much appreciated!! Yes, it's pretty remarkable how much of a difference that little piece makes.

Both sound great. Oddly, I preferred the copper WITH the dpi, but preferred the aluminum WITHOUT.

That's actually very similar to my thoughts ... really great that they created and include that insert, it makes a big difference. I'd use them in that configuration for solo / ensemble.

Do you use reverb live in gigs? If so do you use a pedal or have reverb added onboard from house
@JoshRzepkaMusic Жыл бұрын
If there is a FOH I'll usually ask them to add a little reverb from the board if I'm using the harmon, and they often might put a little on the horn depending on the room. I'm not an audio engineer ... so I just used a basic one that I adjusted from my DAW for this video. I used to have a Bose L1 II PA system that I brought to trio gigs every week, on that I'd def add some reverb as I would play almost the entire gig on harmon.

@@JoshRzepkaMusic I’ve used guitar effects through my trumpet. I use a Voco Loco from Radial basically an effect loop but converts mic input to line input and back to XLR out. Use a reverb, delay and octave pedal and a wah pedal. Fun to play around with

Nice! Which reverb pedal? That would be great to be able to control on my end. I will occasionally use a whammy pedal just to double an octave below, but that’s the only one I have.

@@JoshRzepkaMusic Strymon Blue Sky. Has a Room , Plate and Spring reverb and control of low and high damp. Also has a pre delay to control. I would say not to overwhelming to use and can dial in pretty quickly
