My dream for a new player experience is a curated story speed run, where you can play the most important bits of the story from each expansion in a 1-80 leveling style. It would bounce players around the world, give them a chance to see all the zones and experience bits of each story to help build a cohesive narrative a new player could log in and choose to play. I think even some veteran players could find an optional leveling method like that enjoyable. But that's just my pipe dream.

That just doesn't work as well as doing one complete story. It ends up being confusing for a new player instead of building a narrative. No one is gonna get 20 years of story crammed into one experience. It'll just feel like random characters doing random things. They just need to make sure they have a base story for new players/alts that feeds into the current story. Which they can totally do and keep updated. Then timerunning events can give players a chance to go back for lore later.

Thought comes to mind, the game can set up a bunch of different "main storylines" that put a character through a more or less on rails MSQ. So maybe not wow's complete history but healthy bite that feels like a complete story, by the end that character might be ready for the new expansion. This'd be on top of your own idea too. I'm mostly thinking of how they want to improve the experience in several stages and not just one go.

Imagine getting kicked out of a guild after setting up a guild neighborhood. I'm also wondering if you can have NPCs live with you, or other players, or have your other toons hanging out in your house, your hunter is hanging out by the fireplace and your priest is cooking dinner as you walk in on your pally. Your warrior is napping, druid sitting on the porch with your shaman playing hearthstone.

I think the post said you can have other players live in your house with you. Actually, I just checked and it did say you can have other people or guild mates living with you or you can live in their houses and neighborhoods. This is a smart idea because many people, like my brother and his wife, play together so it would be great for them to be able to share a home even though they technically have two separate accounts.

For new players, a Chromie led/narrated storymode raid tour of the expansions would give new players a real feel for the game. Taking them around to face Onyxia, Ragnaros, Illidan, Arthas, Deathwing, etc., with some high-level story fill-in to tell them why we're fighting them, could really help new players feel invested. Blizz could break it up by expac like Chromie time already is, so it's not TOO overwhelming, but have it lead them chronologically through our heroes' journey, to really help new players feel like the veteran heroes they are meant to be.

My take on plot preferences is they already gave us a hint/slip-up. If you read the verbiage closely in answered questions they mention "if a player wants to *buy* a home" which suggests plots will have a purchase price in gold. You can already see where this is going if you've ever played FFXIV in that the 'favorite spots' are going to be exorbitant in price. And to be fair, this is the only logical way they could distribute players naturally in that some might save up for the malibu beach house, others will be happy with a lower mortgage home, or despite having the gold choose to buy a house that's on sale because it's less popular. I mean, Blizz has the entire housing market IRL to work with as an economic model and I'm sure they'll take advantage of it.
@SoulSoBreezy
@SoulSoBreezy 15 сағат бұрын
Don't think there's any illusion we won't be "buying" anything, but they made it very clear a few sentences earlier that there are "No exorbitant requirements or high purchase costs" to follow the focus on wide adoption as they also state. For me at least, this translates to our first house being very cheap, and this depends on how welcoming they want housing to be for brand new wow players. I imagine for the sake of making housing be a welcome feature as opposed to a privilege, the cost if any will be relative to the earliest minimum level requirement. If housing is accessible at level 10, I'd guess we get our first basic shack for free. If housing is accessible at level 30, maybe we're thinking a few hundredish gold for our first house. And assuming there'll be larger house types (endgame), we should expect an increase.
@JodouTR
@JodouTR 14 сағат бұрын
@ Right, but if you look at that again through the lens of the same problems you illustrated: homes are still accessible/affordable to anyone, BUT it may not be the one you want. 😉 Both can be true in that the rich get the home they want preference-wise and the average Joe can too with a smaller subset of location choices. I do think there will be quite a bit of disappointment but at least we all do get a house.
@SoulSoBreezy
@SoulSoBreezy 11 сағат бұрын
I must be missing something when you suggest people won't get the house they want unless we're jumping ahead to how much the most expensive homes will cost. There's gonna be a careful balance to strike but I think only one rule need apply: don't make housing layouts or outdoor exteriors that're only available temporarily. Otherwise if a house goes for a few million, okay there's the chase goal, get to it. Whether people have a problem with that would be mostly their own problem.
@JodouTR
@JodouTR 10 сағат бұрын
@@SoulSoBreezy When I look at the problem that faced FFXIV for example, we can see the ‘why’ it happened and I do think that applies in WoW. Otherwise what will stop players from seeing a more desireable spot and keep jumping ‘wards’ to find one available? If too many players lean that way, you have tons of half-empty wards and nothing to balance it out. It’s all speculation but I do think everyone can get a house, just might not be the location they would prefer.

9:17 They already said that they'll start with just two zones and go from there which is 100 % the right choice. As for Grizzly Hills - I'm pretty sure we'll get a housing zone there in The Last Titan since that expansion is set in Northrend.I'm also fairly certain that they will add a Silverymoon housing zone midway through Midnight. Race specific decor and architecture will definetly come. Again, starting small and expanding from there is the right choice. With garrisons they overpromised and underdelivered and everyone was mad about it- and rightfully so. This is the opposite approach and that is good. The basics must be done right first. Then you can add more details. 12:00 The social aspect couls also include more public events like building up an inn, having troubadours visiting the area based on general player activity, building a theatre, having loremasters writing down heroic deeds of the inhabitants at some form of Neighborhood central hall....there are so many possibilities, none of which are player power related in the slightest but are huge opportunities for roleplay events. 13:47 I disagree on that. Iwouldn't be dissatisfied in the slightest if I can have a house per zone. They already announced that we'll be able to move so if you want to try something new in a different spot you can. And don't forget that we'll get more zones in the future which means that one house per zone could in fact eventually mean something like 5, 10 or even more homes eventually which is already a lot of work to do. 14:50 I have to disagree on that one too because that would lower the involvement of professions big time. In my opinion each and every decor item should be an actual item that has to be found or crafted. That is indeed the way other games handle this by the way. 17:15 Not sure if it means anything but the post does mention being able to live in your friend's house. 20:45 The housing zones should not duplicate the cities. Housing zones should avoid game functionalities like teleporters, auction houses, banks and crafting stations. They could include a flightmaster and maybe a vendor or two, but that's it. The rest should be social - like an inn - or purely for roleplay, optics and prestige.
@Mysterious-Fox-01
@Mysterious-Fox-01 Күн бұрын
Yeah I don't get why people are mad about that. Why are people so eager to be mad about something that is added later? Blizzard just wants to do this right, 1 project at a time, so some troll and Gnome Housing comes a bit later, what a big pointless problem to be mad about
@SoulSoBreezy
@SoulSoBreezy Күн бұрын
Regarding professions, yes I think all professions should be involved. Which is exactly why additional professions aren't necessary. Should also point out, neither approach is wrong either as long as either approach has a strong player economy.
@Mysterious-Fox-01
@Mysterious-Fox-01 Күн бұрын
@SoulSoBreezy They are missing a huge opportunity by not adding a housing profession if they are going to focus purely on the in game store for housing which many people are afraid of. And honestly if Blizzard gets a taste of that honey they will probably put the good stuff behind a paywall which no one wants. and the latest action house mount is a prime example of it Blizzard might get the wrong idea to put house models with a price tag in the game, a normal house 25, a castle 60 and Villa 90 for example if they would do that they would definitely destroy the housing fantasy for people in one go, 100% sure of that
@SoulSoBreezy
@SoulSoBreezy Күн бұрын
My question is, what's the "opportunity" missed if there aren't dedicated housing professions? What's the difference between "housing profession" making a lap versus an engineer, or taking profession made components and taking them to an NPC? Not that I need convincing or anything, but it doesn't seem reasonable to force a housing profession to be the "last mile." They already made it clear shop items would be in the vast minority, using the same philosophy as the current shop (like a 98:1 ratio of earning items vs. shop only).
@Hauke-ph5ui
@Hauke-ph5ui Күн бұрын
@ Well - it could be argued that some RP-people would definetly go fully into the "I'm a carpenter/decorator" direction. Not saying that such professions are necessary by any means, but it would add a roleplay element for the people who are interested in that. And since a large part of the Housing is about roleplaying, not the traditional hunt for Player Power... There's definetly an argument for that. WoW 100 % needs more things that are supporting actual roleplaying.

One thought came to mind for me was on the RP side of things, mainly for performers who put on plays and shows like myself. I get the sense that these plots of land can be used to build stages. If I craft a stage and invite the public to watch one of my improv shows and, Ill use the term "bad actor" instead of a troll, what happens when a bad actor arrives at my stage, throws down a ton of large, obnoxious toys and then proceeds to get on a mammoth or bruto mount to cause a scene, will I have the option of kicking that bad actor off of my plot of land? Can I have it where mounts cannot mount up on my plot of land? The simplest answer here would be to simply set up a private neighborhood and a private stage. If I set up a private neighborhood and a private stage, am I only allowed to invite a raid I put together or people from my guild, friends list or community? My particular show thrives on people noticing my show, walking up and sitting down to watch and leaving whenever they want. This has been both a good and bad thing because bad actors have ruined many of my shows and there was little I could do about it other than just move locations. I realize that its still early days but if these plots of land can be used as stages, I want to make good use of this.

These are good questions. I would assume you could ban players from your property for whatever reason. I would also assume that there would be some way of say, locking the doors or something. If I don't want random people tromping through my house, I should have the option of locking it and allowing people to come in on my terms via housing privacy settings or something. I should also allow it to be open to the public as well if I'm in a public neighborhood. The common sense thing would be to have some sort of housing privacy settings.

As far as streamlining the leveling experience, my suggestion has always been to do like an abbreviated tour through the world. What they could do is have a few questions in each area that are relatively simple to do would give you a highlight of what’s going on in that part of the world The quests themselves would not give amazing XP so you don’t out level zone too quickly and it also wouldn’t be that long neither maybe just a few quests then when you complete the capstone quest for that zone, you would get a nice chunk of experience. They could make each section skippable so you could jump around if you want to the next leg of the journey and if you complete the whole thing from start to finish, you would get a decent idea of everything that has happened in wow up to this point.

DAOC had player housing in neighborhoods, and there were x number of instances of the housing zone. You couldn't run out of space, but it was static, so you actually had the opposite problem: People moved in, then stopped playing, and the instance died. All the instances died eventually. All your neighbor houses were derelict. I imagine WoW will have some smarter way of instancing that will address this- maybe, if a player stops playing, their house doesn't load anymore and another player's house pops in it's place. But then are your neighbors randomized? Do they shuffle occasionally? What if you like your neighbors and they disappear? What if the new neighbors are up all night blasting ETC all full volume? I dunno just thinkin.

Yeah I wanna think that if an account lapses for so long, the player won't lose their house but it'll be sort of pushed off that layer? Which would kind of suck because then that player would be in a neighborhood full of inactives, question then would be if that's a big deal because maybe they don't care, or they can move their house and then suddenly be on a more active layer again. It all depends on if my theory comes true so whatever haha

To 10 skulls. 100 skulls and a big pile of skulls. As a pvp achivement. How many tiers of the Honorable kills you have done. Tier 1, 1 skull, tier 2, 10 skulls, tier 3, 100 skulls and so on. Same with proffessions. That go up depending on how much you mine, collect herb and leather. Same with crafting. but also raiding and so on.

There’s not really many professions that they haven’t already covered, I mean, it is kind of just woodworking left. And even then, it would kind of interfere with engineering, and scribe. You know what? I think it would be more interesting to roll it in with archaeology. Because archeologists do more than just dig in the ground. They learn how ancient people constructed their buildings and items. And how they lived. Archivist, perhaps if they framed it that way, and emphasize the collecting of knowledge. It wouldn’t seem so outlandish. (and we can move away from the Indiana Jones references and into more librarian ones.) that would be a great way to branch archeology specializations. Also researching history might work as a way of enticing new players to experience all the old quest lines we have .

Even if Housing doesn’t have a dedicated profession, I feel like at the very least Wood Gathering/Working could be extrapolated on. We already had a barebones version of that in WoD. Also, I get the feel like this Jake situation might be anecdotal. 😂

One of my worries about the recent news about player housing is, if some one else has a certain plot i would like to have my house at am i SoL is the plot 1st come 1st serve? and i feel like there might be potential griefing with plot limitations by snagging a desired one just to be mean or to try to sell off others.
@SoulSoBreezy

From the initial read no. If you want that plot, you get that plot and the game will figure it out - this's with regards to public neighborhoods at least. The scenarios you're describing might be a thing with privage neighborhoods but we need to learn more information first.

In private neighborhoods the community/guild officers can move people around as needed. Personally I am expecting those in public servers to be constantly complaining about their neighbors. Upset at the most garrish of homes. public neighborhoods will be looked on as ghetos while those in private neighborhoods having the time of their life because officers keeps things looking... uh.. cohesive and organized. People who are part of a guild are more likely to work together. (Private neighborhoods will also filled with HoA levels drama from this I'm sure)

I gave up on professions, it's too complicated for the casual player. As for housing, the statement that only a small number of items will be on the cash shop is meaningless. They can put all the garbage for free, achievements, gold purchasing, etc and then the essentials as cash shop. Want to display that set of armor? The mannequin that holds it is cash only. Want that new "system" (whatever that is)? Head to the cash shop. Things like that.

My big concern for housing is just what this instanced neighborhood is going to be like.... Is it just for my warband? That creates the same problem as what we had in Garrisons but... Is it open for first come first serve? This makes a new problem in that maybe I don't like my neighborhood anymore because some one holds a daily 'nightclub' experience that flood the instance.. I'd almost prefer it be just my warband so I can customize the entire neighborhood through all of my toons... put all my pandas over here, the trolls over there, tauren go here... etc etc etc
@tahroo4262
@tahroo4262 4 сағат бұрын
What I want to see done for new player experience is let players who choose to do so, take their vanilla classic level 60 toon and move it to the TBC classic server (bring at least three servers back), and when they're done with TBC they can move on to the WoLK classic servers... when they're done with that into Cata and so on. Otherwise destroy Chromie Time.. it's confusing to new players. Even to returning players, have you tried to get through shadowlands? Guess what... Chromie Time is broken in it if you wanna just skip the story for it and use Threads of Fate. You can't!

I find it hard to believe anyone actually believes anything that Blizz's talking heads have to say. I can't get excited about any "new" features since Blizz can't be bothered to fix the bugs that have been in their UI for almost 6 months (eg auto-loot). You also need to re-read their announcement on player housing - "if a player wants a house in Azeroth, they can have a house in Azeroth" - it's the exact same to get a house where I live, but of course you need at least $50k real money up front for the cheapest ones, and well into six of even seven figures for the down payment on the more expensive ones. I would wager that housing will make the $90 AH mount look dirt cheap.

Not at all, I'd like to say. So imagine: Private neighborhood for you + friends but you can flag the other zones as "public." On the other end, people can either choose a house and let the game figure it out, or choose someone's private neighborhood (or be invited) and be subject to their rules and available slots.

I feel ill, thinking about the community driven envy for certain plots in a neighbourhood. My guess will be you can choose a preferred "district" within a neighbourhood (i.e. beach, city or darkwoods etc) and your plot in that neighbourhood is randomized, I would think it follows that the plot location isn't fixed between logins either. At least with this method, it should be far easier for blizzard to balance out all the public neighbourhoods with player houses, either by stacking or by even distribution.

I couldn't care less about more aesthetics and flavors added to the game like player housing, especially since it's so likely it's going to be instanced like garrisons. Know what I'd like to actually see? An update to movement, motions, actions, voice acting, emotes (instead of deleting them). I'd actually like to see the character build that piece of armor, not swing a tiny hammer in the air a few seconds. I'd like to see the npc talk to me and HAND me the quest item, not a wall of text that ends with (he hands you the thing.) The game is 20 years old - UPDATE IT.

@@DarkScreamGames If you are able to read between the lines, you could see that this is just going to be another micro transaction goldmine. These cash grabs, IMO, detract from actual gameplay and development. I'm not saying that this content is unwelcome, but I am saying that this game's look and feel are extremely outdated and cheap-feeling. I just did a dungeon run where a big blue angelic type character ferried me around by grabbing my character like a limited motion action figure. Because the programmer's just thought to themselves, "why bother making an animation that looks better, just have him poof in the hand of this thing and dangle there until he gets to the next thing." It's lazy, corny, and kinda embarrassing. Since I think BFA, we got to see the "guy leaning on a wall" motion on some npcs, but not us? Brann does it all the time in Delves, in weird places. That was a new animation and added a little character and I want to see more of little things like that fleshed out. That's the kind of thing I'm talking about. Little fun stuff added here and there to inject more color into our online lives.

@ That's fair. I just wish there was a few folks or a small team at Blizz that would also seek to enhance what's there now, and make it that much more immersive. I know most have gotten used to it, but I can't be the only one that wants to hear a quest giver share his plight, physically hand you the McGuffin you need to do the thing, and as you leave, he waves, and maybe you do too. We sort of see it in Diablo 4. But....we also see special animations behind paywalls aka battle passes. So we know they can do it, but will they ever do it without pay restrictions...? That's the only thing that worries me.
@SoulSoBreezy
@SoulSoBreezy 11 сағат бұрын
D4 is simply a smaller game, less scope to deal with. Housing is already a massive, massive move by adding this new layer of collection - I often refer to the limitations of how we can express our rewards. But other aspects I try to champion include emotes and not just new animations, but additional animations. Like imagine adding a new kind of death rattle animation, new sitting postions etc. 90% of them should be somehow earned and I'd accept a handful being thrown up on the in game shop or trading post. Lots of potential and unfortunately only so many decisions to be made.
