SOUND DEADEN & INSULATE the inside of your vehicle - Kilmat Application tips & Sound comparison

This is the 49th video on my frame off restoration and turbo build. In todays video I show you how i insulated / sound deadened / sound proofed the cab of my race / street truck. I used a product called Kilmat that can be found at the link below on amazon. I really like the product. not much smell, applies well, looks nice and gets the job done. In the end of the video you can hear a massive difference between panels that have good coverage and panels that do not. I am really happy with it and will be doing it on my other trucks.

The sound difference is crazy just with you knocking on the panels. I can't wait to put it in my '03 single cab as well, the day it gets a nice new High Country interior lol. Awesome video man!

You will be really happy with it. I am. I would recommend buying about 50sq of material and you will have plenty extra. I think I used about 35-40sq.

I used kilmat on my 2007 new body Silverado Vortec MAX. I also used the noico closed cell foam over that. Doors and floor. Made a big difference. 👍

Sick truck! I did the same thing to my old WRX. I currently have a F150 that I did a full sound deadening to after learning a lot about it. The difference between my old WRX with the same treatment shown here and my F150 with the extra layers is insane. My F150 isn't a monster like your truck, I just wanted a more comfortable quiet ride plus helped my sound system. Below is some info if you care to learn a bit more, but it might not be the goal of your truck. There is 4 layers of deadening: Dampening, decoupling, barrier, and absorption. Like you did in this video, I only did dampening on my WRX. It makes a big difference, but it really only stops your panels from resonating. Dampening is only removing that empty oil drum sound you get. Your next steps would be to put a fiber mat (decoupling) and then on top of that put a gap free layer of Mass Loaded Vinyl MLV down. MLV is where all your sound reduction comes from. Sound deadening is a rabbit hole filled with engineers going full geek on the data... So you gotta do what's right for your build. Wow, this is awesome info. Thank you so much for the comment. Im going to check out that link. I might need to do some more in the future depending on how obnoxious the truck is. No less, i have other vehicles where comfort is the priority and will benefit from multiple layers. Thanks again!
