Thanks for the tips & all your other content Jon, I got all my doors done & just finished the hatch today. The struts dont seem to be sagging on the hatch at all, maybe they beefed them up on the newer models. Shops were quoting me $350-500 to deaden 4 doors and there is no way they would have removed the plastic vapor barrier & covered every available square inch like I did. Took 3 full afternoons of work to do it right.

I did this last year. I did all my doors, (I removed the clear plastic weatherproofing and added the sound deadener there as well though), no need to worry, this stuff is butyl, which is 100% waterproof. This is one of the best upgrades you can do to a car. Planning to do the floors at some point too. Question: Did you had to replace the hatch shocks after this ? Great content on your channel btw, keep it up!

Any difference in road noise? I’m assuming that to get a more “luxury car” feel inside you’d have to do a more thorough job of applying the sound deadening material. Thanks for the video!
@TRDJon4 жыл бұрын
Only a little lest. I’m sure it would be better if it was done throughout the whole vehicle
@mrpink36304 жыл бұрын
there will indeed be a difference in road noise if you do it properly and not like this fuckhead

MLV doesn’t do much with respect to road noise. It will dampen panel resonance thus reducing noise. The stuff works, just doesn’t do what most people think it does. To reduce road noise you need to seal all holes, address air leaks and employ closed cell foam along with a few other approaches. Even this won’t silence a vehicle obviously, but it will approach that luxury vehicle quiet as a mouse kinda feel. The MLV does a lot to maximize your speakers. When applied correctly and coupled with closed cell foam, the results are nothing short of amazing.

Watched this video again as I plan on trying this over the weekend! Glad you clarified that this isn't a "competition" level goal. I've seen some other videos on sound deadening where others have covered almost every inch of the doors! Like you said, it depends on what your goals are. Having said that, are you planning to sound deadening any more areas in the doors after having test driven it for a few weeks now?
@TRDJon5 жыл бұрын
Nope! Very solid so far! Be aware that the back hatch now doesn’t open all the way haha. The material is heavy!
@JB-by8tw5 жыл бұрын
Blue TRD Jon Did you sound deaden the entire rear hatch, or just the speaker housing area? I may decide to just do the speaker area housing so this doesn't happen.
@TRDJon5 жыл бұрын
I did the speaker area on the hatch as well. I did all doors just around the speaker
@JB-by8tw5 жыл бұрын
Blue TRD Jon So just doing the speaker arear on the rear hatch made it so heavy as to not be able to lift all the way? Wow that deadening material must be pretty heavy. Maybe I'll just skip the rear hatch and do the deadening on the front and back doors
@TRDJon5 жыл бұрын
Yea. I did more around it then the doors but yea. Very very thick

Great video Jon. So did it reduce road noise? I have fairly big tires and it’s pretty loud. Came that way when I bought it. Coming from a Lexus SUV, I was pretty spoiled in that respect. Im kinda getting from other comments here that it didn’t do much.

@@TRDJon I keep forgetting I have a relatively stock 2019 SR5.Premium. Having bigger tires and rack certainly adds noise to your beautiful TRD. People that ride in mine are amazed at just how quiet it is. I installed an OEM Audio Plus system with so much clarity it literally makes people grin when they hear it for the first time. I didn't put any sound deadening material in and the stock head unit amplified with a sub sounds great. You are right though, it wasn't cheap! Speaker upgrades alone made a HUGE difference.
