I love how excited you get when a sound nugget is captured. Some people plan so much beforehand (all the way to checking plane flights) and try to control so many things that they don’t allow for chance, or don’t welcome it. Being open to surprises and happy accidents is a lot more relaxed and fun.

OK Marcel, I'll give you the story of a recordist worst might mare. At one time, I used to record weddings on the weekends. A few extra dollars didn't hurt. So this particular weekend, a wedding on Saturday about 11:00 A.M. So all was going well until the bride and groom had to say their "I do's". a lot of people when very nervous, start to whisper. Well both of them were whispering and here I am trying to capture all this on audio tape. I'm straining to hear with the volume controls all the way up. all of a sudden a fire engine drives by. It's siren starts to sound off. Both VU meters pin out, my headphones come off real fast. Home after everything is put away, I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to save this event. I finally decided to splice another wedding tape into this one to get the correct effect of the bride and groom saying their vowels. no one every suspected my corrections.

@FreeToUseSounds3 жыл бұрын
Hi Anton, thank you so much and yes I will do an honest review but I can already tell you is that the F6 has already the ambisonic function. For the MixPre you need to pay $50 more and it only allows you to record in 24 bit. It is still possible to record the raw A format with the MixPre but it needs to be converted. Also if it comes to power options, the F6 is the winner. I can't use my Watson Battery without paying another $160 for the adapter. This is just too much in my opinion. The F6 has that also included.

This is very interesting as I am shopping for a recorder. I feel that Zooms are a lot more affordable and easy to find, but I am curious about the noise floor. @craig42972 жыл бұрын
From the manufacturer specs the Equivalent Input Noise is -128 dBu for the Mix Pre 6ii vs -127 dBu for the Zoom F6. Interesting, Tascam does not provide this data for the X8, and customer service cannot locate it either. I expect it’s also very good from the reviewer comments so far about low noise from the XLR inputs. If anyone has found the Equivalent Input Noise spec for the Tascam X8, please share it with us.

I've done a lot of research by professionals who make a living in thus. They have unanimously chosen Mixpre 6 or 10. Zoom didn't make it. Tascam was inexpensive but roo many flags. The others were also rans. Pros know,what they need and are fussy. I trust them.

Currently Marcel, I'm the sound guy at the local senior center. They have a small drama group, not only do I work the PA system for them but I also do the sound effects. I've always wanted to control the ringing of a telephone. In the US, the current is 120 volts @ 60 Hz. The ringer circuit uses 90 volts @ 20 Hz. Now you can ring a phone with a small box that is solid state and delivers that specific current. $100.00 that's all. I can ring two phones at once. I particularly love this video because you bring us with you and it's so pleasant. So thank you for sharing this content. Do you think that's an interesting cheaper option ?
@FreeToUseSounds3 жыл бұрын
Thank you David. Thank you so much for watching. That won’t work with USI Pros because in order to create an ORTF or XY stereo image it all depends on the microphone patterns of the microphone. USI Pro are omnidirectional meaning “all”. You record all sides. The MKH for example are cardioid meaning you record in a certain angle. It’s very important to understand that because that way you know what microphones you need for certain microphone positions.
@davidhellegouarch16223 жыл бұрын
@@FreeToUseSounds OK thank you, I didn't pay attention to this! Do you think that the Lewitt LCT040 can give decent results instead ? Is 20dB of self noise too loud?

@@davidhellegouarch1622 I think these are the microphones that Cameron from Venus Theory is using. They are good microphones and if you are just starting out, don't bother self noise or anything. Hi Victor, This really depends what you're looking for. If price is important to you, the F6 is cheaper and has more to offer. No extra payment for plugins and battery adapter. You also have more plugins. Navigating through the menu is slightly more difficult on the MixPre. But thats all about learning curve. If you only want to use it for field recording plus ambisonic sounds, the F6 is perfect. If you need it for work go with the MixPre. Another factor you should look into is weight.
