The Orca bag noise, I have just got the MixPre 6MKII and Orca bag and the first thing I did was to get some self amalgamating tape, cut a thin strip of the tape, gave it a good stretch over the zipper tags at the base where they connect and hey presto, no more noise, a simple fix that could be done at the factory I'm sure. Got the L-mount battery holder but can only have one battery installed at a time. Used the recorder for the first time today and uploaded a few binaural recordings to my channel, really pleased with the recorder sofar.

What a great discovery your channel is. Thanks for the review. For me the k-tek bag is perfect for its size is the one I use. The only thing missing in the description is the magnet adapter that seems to fit perfect. Would you remember the model? Greetings from Spain.

Yeah, I totally agree with you on the negatives of the Orca bags, I bought the Orca OR-28 as I thought I wanted the extra room to pack more stuff in and the reality is the mix-pre gets lost, the battery and SD are difficult to get to and the XLR's are just a nightmare to get to also! I think I will be investing in the K-Tek for sure! One solution to the XLR clips on the MixPre is to have some short XLR tails coming out of the MixPre, not as elegant but saves all that fumbling trying to push that clip!
@FreeToUseSounds3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback Edward and the adapter cable can be a solution, but I am just wondering do I need one for mono and one for stereo? What about ambisonic and DMS? That sounds like a lot of extra cables for field recording only purposes. Also If I just walk around and don't record, are these cables just hanging out of the bag? It is definitely something that can be improved. Especially knowing I'm not the only one dealing with it.

Thanks for the comparison! Looking forward to more videos. I have the MixPre 6 II and the k-tek bag. The xlr is definitely fiddly to remove so I’ve run a short 2 x 3 pin XLR to 5 pin xlr cable from inputs 1&2 that sticks out the right hand side of the bag so I can quickly connect my MS rig.

Very well done comparison. I have the Ktek for my MixPre6ii and love it, but there was always that feeling of wondering if I should have gone with the Orca. This answers all the questions and helps me see I made the best decision for my use case. The Orca is an amazing bag, but I am loving the Ktek. Just a note, I had forgot about the issue with difficulty releasing the XLR cables. I have used the Ktek for several months now and releasing the cables is not a serious issue I think about anymore. You just get used to how you have to hold the bag and reach to release the cables. Hopefully you will have the same experience.

I just bought the ORCA Bag and I really like the size of it. Everything I need fits right in there. I'm doing fieldrecodings but also work on smaller film sets with wireless. But there are a few things I absolutely don't like. Like you mentioned the noise of the Bag is a big Problem. When doing run and gun shots you shouldn't hear the sound bag when moving. And also the side covering. Would be nice with low profile XLRs, but the Extra Price for those would be more than stepping up to the KTek. But I could deal with that, it's a cheap bag and there are solutions to this. What I absolutely don't like is the weight distribution on this bag. When I wear it it tends to fall facing to my body which makes it harder to use the the knobs and check the levels. I tryed around a lot with positioning stuff in the bag to find a compromise, but I haven't succeded yet. So I'm fixing the strap with the extra loops on the bottom of the bag, which is not ideal. I'm still looking for a reasonable priced Cross strap that hopefully fixes that problem.

The OR-270 looks like it does little more than add protection (which is great on one hand). I opted for an OR-28 with additional set of lifters for the MixPre, this gives tons of room for running cables and storing microphones etc, without being too large to carry around. Can’t say I’ve tried the K-Tek though, but looks decent :)

I'll just say that I haven't removed my SD card in 6 months with the auto USB backup. I tend to do long form recording. So I'll have a battery connected to the SD Hirose adapter and a USB-C Battery bank. When the USBC battery bank runs out of battery the mix-pre automatically switches over to the hirose battery. I can record all day and then I don't have to deal with the swollen AA-battery sled problem.

Hi Anton! I only used the Watson batteries with the F6. I think in order to use with the Sound Devices you would need another adapter. I don't remember it but I think the batteries are to big for the K-Tek bag.
