• Some facts about sound - 1) Mechanical/Electrical energy is transferred in the form of elastic strain energy of a medium in the form of vibration propagation in continuous medium. 2) As elastic as medium is, the sound propagates with minimum attenuation. This is also supported by the density of the medium. 3) Sound propagation is completely the form of mechanical energy of material medium whether it is solid, liquid or gas which responds to it elastically the disturbances. 4) Higher the frequency of sound is, fast is its propagation speed. It is as quick as continuous to hear or transmit. 5) Loudness or intensity of the sound is its the rate or flux to transfer the acoustic energy on unit area in unit time. Amplitude is the proportional factor. 6) Solids are quick & strong responsible for sound to propagate & reception. Comparatively, Gases are the least to responsive for sound. This is because the proportional effect of the elastic modulus relative to compactness of medium. 7) Temperature is also affecting the propagation of sound. Here, gases are significantly responsive to this effect because of affection on density & pressure in the medium. 8) Sound waves are longitudinal mechanical waves which requires material medium to propagate parallel to the vibration of molecules. They doesn't travel through vacuum. 9) Sound waves or energy is propagating in all directions. This means it propagates the energy in the medium equally irrespective of any directional effect. External intervention is done if it purposely to propagate in desired direction in medium. 10) Acoustic capability of a medium is depends upon the range of frequencies or maximum frequency (Natural) it can handle or sustain to propagate without attenuation or dissipation or structural failure.
