I think, ma'am is not talking about loss of kinetic energy. She's actually talking about the loss of Sound energy being carried. The law of conservation of energy also occurred once to me.

Hi there! You’re right, energy can’t be created or destroyed-it can only be transferred. During the process of sound transition, the kinetic energy is converted into other forms of energy such as heat energy, which is why some of the energy is lost. Thanks for your thoughtful comment!
