I as a balinese living outside bali, much effort is needed to create this assemble. In big indonesian city most of balinese comunity have this gamelan at their Pura or temple..the players mostly youngster of balinese decent..the culture keep on goin..astungkarah

Selamat Malam Mike 😁👍 This is a classic Balinese gamelan, the rhythm is very distinctive ... if we notice, they played dinamic tempo in this video - calm, a bit faster, soothing, very fast, stricking rhythm, then calm again - and this is the character of traditional (classic) Balinese gamelan. The dinamic rhythm resembles our dinamic life that full of ups and downs Basically, the philosophy of classic Balinese gamelan, describes how human life continously goes on ... whether we're happy or sad, or sometimes we feel life has stopped, but yet ... life still always moves on. now try to listen to javanese gamelan, its so relaxing. the holy trinity of gamelan is javanese, balinese, and sundanese. javanese one for me is like an indie/alternative music, balinese one is like a metal/rock haha, and sundanese one is like a lo-fi music 😁 three of them are so good and have their authenticity

Its little bit Ironic for us... As Indonesian... mostly these day its hard to find who really admire and apreciate this "music treasure" i mean for local people, even find someone in "young age" people... which it can countinues... this... Nggak juga sih... sekarang ini di sekolah-sekolah sudah banyak diajarkan sebagai kandungan lokal. Bila dan pergi ke Bali dan Jawa, atau brosing di KZbin betapa banyak anak-anak yang sudah mahir bermain gamelan. Kunjujungi chanel dwija laras, di sana anak-anak SMP sudah mahir dan SENANG memainkan gamelan

Little known fact: Jawanese and Balinese gamelans are the Only and Earliest metal based music instrument in the World. Other cultures have the more common Gong, just one note. Gamelan first found around 200 AD. Supposedly, to send different notes to the spirit world they created octaves of metal notes. (Wikipedia)

The ugal is pretty much the Balinese analogue to the concertmaster in a Western symphonic orchestra.

And Balinese music is, for the most part, not improvised - but is split up into two elaborating lines called "polos" (the part that mostly on-beat) and "sangsih" (which is the complementary line which fills in all the gaps left by the polos part, as well as provides a counterpart melody), so the two lines together comprise the composite, "full" melodic line with all the elaboration filled in. (Of course, this is all worked out by the composer(s) beforehand!)

I love gamelan music, especially this one from Bali has characteristic fast tempo, vigorous & gave energy/ trance nuance. While Sundanese & Javanese Gamelan are more rellaxing. Fun fact Claude Debussy also got inspired of gamelan ( 1889). Please react : Kebyar Trompong in Puri Peliatan. ( dancer dek Alo ). Terompong is also a metallophone part of Balinese gamelan.
