Great comparison. Ive had the JBL Go 3 for a couple of years and have always been surprised by the great sound out of such a small speaker. I've got no legitimate reason to replace it but the stereo pairing is tempting me to get a couple of these.

The Go 4 is a good step up from the Go 3. Lower bass response and better battery life. But for the same price of one Go 4 you could get two of the soundcores. Dilemma dilemma! 😊

It’s funny. I have the Go 3 and I love it. Music sounds ok on it but I mainly use for podcasts. With that said I did recently cop the Clip 5 and strangely enough, out the box, it didn’t sound as good as the G3. G3 sounds more balanced, despite its anemic bass. The C5 on the other hand sounded shrill and fatiguing. Luckily you can eq the latest iterations of the Clip/Go series. So ultimately I was able to eq more warmth and tame the shrill on the C5. Now it sounds better than the G3. I’m saying this to say if you can get the G4 for less than $40 then you should pull the trigger. Because I’m sure when eq’d the 4 sounds way better than the 3.

After having several JBL speakers I’ve come to realize they have a distinct sound profile and I have come to hate it when I bought an old Sony SS-B1000. It reminded me of my Dad’s old Sony speakers. From then on I’ve skipped JBL coz it sounds close to muddy next to Sony.

For personal low level listening (up to 40% volume), the JBL Go 4 in TWS provides outstanding immersion with excellent soundstage, balanced presentation and good detail. Yes, the bass rolls off sharply at 90Hz, but that’s a limitation of physics. For me, it’s the best compromise of size, weight and performance if one wants a TWS pair of easily portable micro speakers. When one is carrying a pair of speakers, any size and weight savings are doubled. Unfortunately, I don’t rate a single JBL Go 4 especially highly. The sound seems to emanate from a small point source and it feels claustrophobic. Such a contrast to when it really shines as a stereo pair. If I wanted to travel with a single micro speaker, I would choose the Tribit Stormbox Micro 2. However, for my use, a pair of Stormbox Micro 2’s is too much space and weight.

They’re both small speakers so are easy to carry around. If space is at a premium though then the Jbl is the smaller speaker.

The black is definitely boring and not what I’d choose. I’ve seen the JBL Go 4 for £29 and the Soundcast Select 4 is £25, which I’m considering in the green. With just a £6 difference between the two, which in your expert opinion would you choose S the better speaker?

If they’re both about the same price then for group listening I’d go for the 4 Go as it sounds a bit louder and wider. If getting the most sound out of a compact speaker is more important though then I’d go for the Go 4. You might want to check out the Tribit Stormbox Mini too.
