Based on your description it sounds like the numbers from Sonos are correct. Comparing a 50 watt to 125 watt amp in theory should only give you a slight increase in clarity during higher dynamic output. Approximately 10x the wattage is required to double the sound output. In theory that original 50 watt Sonos would need to be around 200 watts to increase the sound by 50%.

Yea I get that Power to Volume isnt a linear relationship, what I didn't mention in the video is that we compared the new Sonos AMP to the Bluesound Powernode 2i (rated at 60 watts by 2) and it smashed it for sound quality, power and overall max volume output. Just makes me wonder if Sonos got one to put out 250 watts just once for half a second at half an ohm and then just ran with that number. I've heard amps of similar and lesser output do heaps more than this did. Still, its grunty enough for in ceiling/inwalls and I think that's what they were aiming it towards.

The Sonos amp was tested at about 110 watts output per channel into 8 ohms at ~.08% THD

It will definitely not sound 2,5 times louder because by doubling Watts you are not doubling the dB the speakers play at

Hi I have a Samsung soundbar on my TV which I love playing music on. Is it possible to incorporate it with my sonos speakers and ikea lamp?

no
@therealchickentender4 жыл бұрын
Miller is incorrect. The answer is "yes, potentially". You would need a Sonos Connect or Sonos Port and you'd have to have an analog output from your TV to connect to either of them. You'd then use RCA or Optical output from the Sonos to connect to the soundbar if it accepts those. It's far from ideal, but it's possible. You'd be better served simply using a Sonos Playbar or Playbase instead of the Samsung soundbar. They're not cheap however, and recent developments with Sonos future support of older speakers and hardware to be deemed "legacy" has given most Sonos users quite a bit of pause as to whether or not to invest further into Sonos equipment as a whole.

Hey James, great video. How does the sonos system compare with the Bose soundtouch. Currently I have the Bose soundtouch system but I think the software is a bit outdated. Your opinion is greatly appreciated.

Sonos just shot itself in the collective foot. Going to be interesting how things shake out. Soundline should look to Bluesound and keep the love within the commonwealth. (edit: and I say that as verified Yank.)

Tell me, so what is better in sound quality - Sonos Amp or Powernode 2i .... I can not decide between them

I can't speak for the Powernode but I have used both of the Sonos amps. The new Amp is stellar. Its a Swiss Army knife of A/V gear. The Powernode does stream 24/192, which the Sonos will not, however that is the only thing that I see it having much of an upper hand on the Sonos. Sonos is a large company and continues to update, support, and improve their products after sale. Powernode does not have that luxury. It is a small company with a niche product. Sonos is just so well thought out and designed.

@@dlloyd6300 Unfortunately Sonos has just rendered much of your comment untrue. The landscape is changing drastically and not for the better..... More than that, *Bluesound* is a sister company with NAD Technologies (est. 1972) and PSB. They are *all* owned by the Lenbrook Group and based in Ontario. The Bluesound *brand* is a bit niche as of yet, the company is *not*. But more to the point, from a pure audio standpoint, the Powernode 2i undoubtedly sounds better than Sonos AMP. There is no question about this.

Sonos has a DDFA based amplifier, Bluesound is Hypex UcD based. Should be really close quality-wise.

Hi, I have a pair B&W 685 bookshelf speakers. I’m looking for something that can replace my Riga Brio R and Rega DAC but I’m struggling to find something that has the same sound quality, AV receivers don’t come close to my current set up. What would you compare the sound quality of the Amp to? The only reason I am looking at changing my set up is I have to manually turn on and off both the DAC and amplifier so it cannot be linked to a Logitech harmony remote.
@Music.Movies.675 жыл бұрын
James Duncan I would say add a Cambridge Audio CXN Network Streamer to the Rega Brio, use the Cambridge CXN, DAC for better sound and can also use the optical input of the Cambridge Audio CXN for 2ch listening from TV and Movies.

Mate, sonos does not stream hi-res audio or does it? You mentioned Tidal ... sonos will only do compressed audio it states on their website..
@SoundlineAudioNewZealand5 жыл бұрын
Sonos streams up to 16 bit 44.1kHz, this is equivalent to CD quality. It will not do anything with deeper bit depth or higher res like DSD or MQA or 24/96 cds. Tidal is mostly standard CD quality anyway so not hugely limiting but still enough to make me want something that isn't capped at CD.

You should try these with a higher dynamic range loudspeaker, like the Procella Audio P5V (procella.audio/product/p5v/)

Sonos : What a pile of rubbish. Every single time I turn to play music from my iphone to my Sonos speakers there is an upgrade required either to my phone or to the SONOS. It is really shit. Remember the days when you went to a store (Step 1) transacted money (Step 2)and then took your record home (step 43 and then played it when you wanted to without any intervention by a third party )Step 4) ? Lomg gone. What have we sacrificed for ease of access / purchase ? SONOS os shit do not buy it. Go buy an old fashioned record player and inside on vinyl. SONOS - does not work across multiple WI-FI routers / repeaters in same house. It means the software engineers are too stupid or too lazy to have the thought about this. SONOS - doesn't work unless you download their latest software which puts the death on the impromptu idea to play music at that time you want oto. It all smacks of those companies that are out to make a dime but which are not competent to think about how their product will be used. I want to listen to BACH of which I am an exert but I am not an expert and not do I wish to be an expert in navigating SONOS' cryptic, non-empathetic app/ instructions, whicg are anywat out of date with the physical playing device. Either SONOS are lazy shits just milking the cow or they are incompetent. Either way I wish i hadn't laid out my cash
