Good to see you back Austin. I am an acoustic consultant specialising in building acoustics. Excellent job with the secondary glazed sliding door, looks to be providing around 20 dB reduction, you're unlikely to get greater than that due to the nature of the sliding door seals. Good job!

That's a great improvement. Here in Phoenix, my studio is a separate structure in my back yard and the dB reading at the property line can't exceed 55dB between 11pm and 7am, so you'd be in the clear! Good thing I only share the fence line with one neighbor to the west! Lol

Yea that was originally my plan but they recommended having a traditional weather sealed exterior door in place because their doors aren’t really designed to do that. Also, the cost haha.

It wouldn't be cheap, but if you really wanted to get it better I think you would need to build a type of sun-room/mud-room addition.

What about a heavy duty acoustic curtain to slide over the sliding door when playing?

That’s amazing on the higher frequencies! It flattens the snare sound, mostly the bass and racks that still cut. Could you use a vinyl curtain or heavy rug to trap the low end further? And how much of that is travel through the floor? (I haven’t watched the entire build video yet so you may have answered some of these). Super impressive though! I’m curious what a knock test would be like on the glass too, could you hear someone knocking in the outside doors from inside the studio?

I have a doubled up set of heavy sound absorbing curtains but they don't do much to stop sound transmission. I want to keep that door easily accessible so anything more hardcore than that would be too cumbersome to constantly be moving out of the way.

A heavy duty double curtain rod that is installed near the ceiling and atleast 1 ft on either side of the door. The first rod to hold moving blankets turned into curtains, the 2nd rod actual curtains that look decent. Try to have the blankets and curtains be less than two inches from the floor.

The only other thing I can think of is room darkening curtains in front of the door. Ikea rods are great quality and affordable. You can go as heavy duty as you want with fabric, and you can even do multiple layers with the Ikea rods. You'll lose the natural light, but maybe you would only want to close them after sundown anyway?

Maybe just hang some kind of thick pillowy blanket thing, like making something like moving blankets with that rock wool insulation stitched in between two blankets, than hung up against the door. just an idea

You might want to seal up and brick up that sliding window area to keep your neighbor off your back. Soundproofing is only as good as your weakest link. Sorry that expensive window didnt fulfill their promise.

Neighbor's never been on my back, we are friends. I do all this mainly for me to feel comfortable that nobody around can really hear me. Also, to keep outside noise like cars, mowers, leaf blowers, etc from coming in. The door works well enough to achieve all that so I'm happy with it.
