I've been the same way for as long as I can remember. There was a switch yard in my town growing up. It was less than a block away. My granddad was an engineer for B&O railroad. I think this had a lot to do with it. But I hear a train and I'm gone. It puts me in such a state of relaxation I fall asleep so quick. Thanks everyone. I'm glad I'm not alone.

Totally agree. I have a few trains that run near where I live and in the summer, with all the windows open, on a nice night, it is an absolute pleasure to fall asleep to the sounds of the trains going on the distance.

All these sounds you use to hear as a child start to become a lullaby as you get older..

Exactly. One of the things I try to do is create a combination of sounds for people that grew up in one place but as life often does have them ending up living in another. It can be hard to adjust to new sounds in new environments. Hopefully someone who is having trouble sleeping can come here, find what they're looking for and get a good night's sleep.

One of my main goals with these videos is to try and capture those sounds from our youth and where we grew up. Goes a long ways to helping someone get a good night's sleep. The videos I enjoy the most feature coastal ambience with ocean waves, a fog horn, harbor bell, seagulls, and small aircraft because where I grew up I lived next to a small airport with 3 beaches within walking distance. Many nights I could hear the ocean waves and the sound of the lighthouse fog horn. I'm glad you like my video, and I now have a playlist dedicated to distant train and train ambience. Thanks for the feedback, greatly appreciated as always.

I also grew up very close to a railroad crossing. Everyone I know in my hometown hates the trains and all their sounds. Falling asleep to the sound of a train on tracks or the distant horn is so soothing and reminds me of sleeping in my own bed at home.

Well Thank you for sharing your beautiful memory but mine is a bit sad when I was a child my poor mother would beat me so bad that I would listen to this sound and travel away with it I would imagine I was on the train leaving my mother behind.. and the abuse that came with it..
I grew up next to a railroad that had trains pass by every 4 hrs. The train come by at 2am-6am-10am-2pm-6pm-10pm. There was a crossing that didn't have lights or safety rails so the conductor blew their horns continuously until the train had safely passed the crossing. I can remember how comforting it was at night to hear the train. I moved away when I was 18 years old. To this day I miss that part of my past. This is so neat. I use it to sleep to. Thank you for posting it. The crickets chirping reminds me of raising the windows at night to let the cool air in....great memories of living in the country.

I agree. I miss living in the country. I grew up on the coast of Maine and have fond memories of falling asleep with the windows open during the summer and listening to the crickets and spring peepers. Can't hear the train from here, so I wasn't able to get comfortable, restful sleep. Then I found this video. My dude, I've had better sleep the last month than I have in years, thanks to this video. I understand that. Back around 1995, I rented an apartment about 150 feet from the Housatonic Railroad (connecticut) crossing. The first night I thought the diesel was going to come through the wall. After that It quickly became the most soothing lullaby of home. All my life I've been blessed with just opening a window and listening for a train even if if was way more distant. That lonesome whistle just gives an old fashion comfort that we understand.

I bought my little old house because of its front porch. Bonus was, I hear a switcher all night long, cept Saturdays. Slightly quieter than this. I dont use a/c after 8pm. Windows open all night long to hear my city. It's so cool. I actually try to stay awake as long as I can. I like the horns so much, I bought pizzas for the guys on the trains. Lil extra button tappage at my closest crossing once and awhile. I'll do it again this summer so the guys working know someone enjoys what they do, while the city sleeps. I got sick with anxiety attacks cuple yrs ago. The horns were the only thing I could hang on to. Im Fine now, but I'll always be thankful to the train.

It really is a great sound. Nighttime ambience is pretty much universal, and most of us fall asleep each night at some point with the windows open, listening to the sounds of nocturnal nature while we fall asleep. Add to this the sound of a distant train, and you capture the sounds heard at night across many parts of the world. For me, growing up on the coast of Maine my nighttime sounds were typically mixed with the sound of a distant fog horn from the lighthouse or the sound of waves crashing on the shores of the nearby local beaches along with the dinging of the harbor bell. I missed that sound so much that some of the first videos I created for this channel featured coastal nighttime ambience. There is just something comforting about certain sounds, especially sounds we fell asleep to on warm summer night's in our youth. Thanks for listening!

It really is a sound that defines many childhoods across this nation, as it was the rails that really first connected all the states. We all grew up hearing steam whistles and the clickity clack of tracks before that gave way to the diesel sounds and horns. I've found this to be a very popular ambiance. I've had requests for distant train with light rain, heavy rain, thunderstorms, whistles, horns, distant traffic with distant trains, the combinations really are endless. I've released many thus far kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5iznGStaN-ba80, kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWLUgqRnjrCfpas, kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpWWp2yNetWFgK8, kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJ3HeqRooad8Zrc, and kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6iyppymotWZqMU, with more coming in the near future. What a blessing to find all the sounds I grew up with in NJ! This is just what it would sound like with my window cracked open a bit in the evening. I will call this natures symphony, with some added features of the train horn effects riding past in the night hours. We have very few sounds out here in the Tucson desert, and the yuppies came in from California to shut down the evening train horns. So this has been a nice filler to help relax in the evening to sleep.

Nostalgia's a powerful thing. That's one of the biggest reasons why sleeping to these sounds works so well. For me, it's the sound of growing up on the coast, with the sound of crickets, ocean waves, a harbor bell and distant foghorn from the lighthouse.

For the last eleven years, I have lived in a somewhat rural area about 35 miles south of Minneapolis, MN. It is the first place I have ever lived where no trains can be heard. My grandparents lived in a mountain town that had a lot of textile mills. Naturally these mills had direct rail lines connecting to them to transport product, so anytime I would visit them it was inevitable you'd get 1-2 trains come by during the night. The horn may sound a bit haunting, but it is also calming. And the low rumbling noise the trains would make are unmatched when it comes to having the ability to lull you to sleep. I will never forget those moments.
@BlackAtomProductions Жыл бұрын
I love the sound of a distant train. Especially if you just start falling asleep as the train gets farther and farther away until all that you can hear is a slight breeze and crickets. Perhaps some frogs in a nearby pond. Such great sounds to sleep to.
