At first, everything was quiet. After couple of solitary seconds, flirty sound of raw floor drums vaguely dimidiated the silence as the music grappled through the surface. The room was not too capacious, but decent enough to accommodate eight neat gentlemen equipped with their own groove weapons. Coupled with the provoking beat, the mighty contra bass strived through into the arrangement.
Unmistakable, the party has begun. "Built To Race" opened the session with Leonardo and His Impeccable Six. Not only responsible for face-lifting the band with absolute coolness, Fred Perry Indonesia (@fredperryID) has been unarguably bountiful lending its den as our venue for the evening.
One blatant difference between Leonardo and His Impeccable Six (LAHIS) and the rest of local acts is how they interact each other. Head-chef Leonardo Ringo doesn't occupy all of the space, he shares it equally and beautifully. Wise thing to do, since they have many reasons to distinguish themselves from other bands. Not just about fat bellies (haha), I'm talking about a solid-howling brass section and smart hooks as well.
It is always redemption for me to see bands that are making real effort for their presence, visually. Inspired by late 50s acts, Leonardo and His Impeccable Six is indeed well dressed and amusing. There is this badass and slick bastard aura around this gang every time I see them in gigs. Which in my opinion is a really plus point for a band to possess such attitude, without making any irrelevant sacrifices.
Before finishing the set with hip swinging piece "The Rumba", the crux of the session was Louis Prima's classic "Just a Gigolo", one of the songs in "Mirrors" (download it for free in www.buttonijo.com). The song is so good singalongs were inevitable, plus the supporting backing vocals from the rest of the band was impeccably great.
