So at this point Ava has lost: her mother, her brother's trust (again, and maybe forever this time), her sire's love and trust, and her wanted-lover's (Saito) trust and is nearly alone save for a blood bound (and not even to her) trouble-making Gangrel who reports to the Prince that cost her all this. Ava is essentially alone in a stupid penthouse at this point with the Sword of Damacles hanging over her head. Poor Ava.

He claimed to be a malkavian and had been imitating them, since he showed no signs of auspex and you can't fake being able to see wards, invisibility, and ghosts when his sister could learn auspex and tell he's lying, he had to show signs of knowing dominate, since showing obfuscate alone would make people question he's a thinblood.

@@danieltilson4053 Learning what is the common discipline spread for each clan isn't closely guarded secrets, and no worth while kindred would view that knowledge as worth more than a trivial boon. Its not the coteire he's hiding it from specifically, but others probing them for information that would reveal something isn't right. All the basic dominate powers would give away he knows dominate, and just claiming to be Malkavian would throw Zach into the same boat as why people from dominate clans are mistrusted. Your also forgetting Cianna(sp?) would have noticed and given his sire's listed generation in Cam records started wondering if he was a thinblood.

Same here. I hope whenever this series finishes or goes on a season break or whatever that Mathas DM's another World of Darkness game like Werewolf or Hunter or something. Then again I hear those are pretty combat-heavy, but I believe in Mathas that he could make them drama/dialog-heavy with some non-hostile supernaturals to make things interesting. I think Hunter would be my choice based on what I know.

Mathas is a amazing storyteller, I have no doubt that he could come up with a good story that is more drama than combat, especially with a Werewolf campaign. Hunter could be done, but it would be a bit harder.

@@GiovanniPrince With Hunter, I think that more characters "in the know" are necessary for combat to be less prevalent since otherwise it sounds like the game is just not telling normies what's going on and killing anything not human (or fleeing from it). I'd say a mish-mash of stuff such as having a couple of on-again/off-again supernatural allies would help...perhaps a tiny freehold of Changelings on the verge of getting wiped out, etc. Either that or do Hunter: The Vigil where you can be in a massive Second Inquisition and have a bunch of other characters in your organization whom you can communicate with.

What the HELL guys and gals! How is it that every week, EVERY FRIGGIN' WEEK, this "amateur" acting troupe and "writer/director" put out a more pathos-ridden, gut-wrenching, suspenseful story line, full of BELIEVABLE plot-twists that is (equal?...nay dare I say it? Screw IT!) BETTER than ANYTHING else that is coming out of the entertainment industry today. I mean seriously, what the fuck, guys. I mean, let's name off the crème de la crème scenes of this episode: Saito and Sybil's advocate, the phone call with Sienna and Ava/Dakota, , the rescue of Mark, and Dakota...dear LORD, DAKOTA!!!! My God, she has become a MONSTER! There is NO WAY in HELL that she would have murdered an innocent child pre-Blood Bond! NOT EVER!! And yes, I am aware of what kind of monster Dakota was before (and I love her for it!) You know, I did not think that Dakota's punishment was so bad. Now, I see that true horror of what she has become (and I STILL LOVE HER FOR IT!) Because what Dakota did at the end is COMPLETELY in character -- post-Blood Bond. If anyone thinks this derailed the storyline just do not get how good the "director/writer" (Mathas) IS I cannot wait to see what happens next!

Spoilers: HOOOOOOLY shit this episode. I'm reeling to point where I'm not even fully sure what happened. Dakota 'cancelled' the deal that was going to potentially safely resolve everything because it was morally horrific. The coterie has Mark but still are indebted to return Rowan somehow (and don't even get me started on how Ollie is going to play into that). As for Saito, he didn't eliminate Mark but I believe his new puppeteers aren't going to final death him like the stakes the coterie had in this since Saito did everything he could and almost definitely has machinations to keep trying. Man you guys have a long way to go but this absolutely deserves to be as big as Critical Role.

I didn't read Dakota's action as having anything to do with moral horror, just loyalty to Bella - Saito and Zach were trying to do a deal that went against Bella's wishes, so Dakota took the most expedient option to stop the deal going through.

She knew the only way out was to remove the leverage they had. That was the Blood Bond taking over, and calling her to take action for Bella. The moment they brought the boy in Dakota knew something was up. It's why she wanted to hold the child's hand. This was a plan she was not made privy to, and it her instincts were telling her that something was wrong.

Spoilers (for the episode and VtM Lore) I did not see THAT twist coming! I was completely convinced that the Methuselah was Menele - a Brujah 4th gen that reached the pinnacle of the Path of Entelechy, and is known to be sleeping somewhere under Chicago. But if it's Sybil... she's the one that Embraced Marcus Vitel and positioned him to become the "Ventrue" Prince of D.C. That could end *really* badly for the coterie, seeming she's one of the most powerful Lasombra that's still extant.

Well, the Lasombra are infamous for being incredibly harsh and brutal, even before becoming members of the Sabbat. Adding that to the fact that Sybil is a Methuselah, which would make her incredibly callous given so much time alive (unalive?), she'd probably kill a good chunk of the Camarilla and Anarchs in the city just to send a message. Although, I'm not the Storyteller and Mathas could take Sybil in any number of ways, and if she does wake up I'm really interested in seeing how he portrays her.

She seems to be binding vampires like Vanessa or Saito with obtenebration. This is incredibly interesting, as convention holds that methuselahs manipulate vampires through their bloodline connection. She seems to be stepping outside of that, which is very innovative. Her willingness to cultivate followers in the other clans is relatively liberal. She wanted to avoid the call to the middle east. It's interesting that she'd be concerned. Gratiano ate the Lasombra antediluvian, so she shouldn't have a sire to call her there. Assuming the call to the middle east is functions through the bloodlines (which is what the "book of the grave war" breaks) this has multiple implications on the lore: 1. She doesn't know that Lasombra is dead. (unlikely, Vanessa among others would have informed her). 2. She thinks Lasombra could have survived the Anarch Revolt and could call her to the middle east (Probable, that's just regular Kindred paranoia. It is disputed as to whether Gratiano successfully diablerised his sire). 3. Gratiano could have assumed the mantle of antediluvian and potentially have the power to call her to the middle east. (Unlikely, even if he did jump to 3rd generation, assuming power over the entire Lasombra bloodline breaks a fuck ton of lore). 4. It's not the Antediluvians calling for the elder vampires to assemble, but multiple members of the 2nd generation (unlikely), or Caine himself (probable). If Caine himself is calling, then no elder is safe. As there is no mention in the lore of clans with their antediluvian confirmed dead not feeling the call to jyhad, this is the most likely scenario. I mean it's not Gehenna without Caine right?

Yeah, the whole idea that the clans are *all* being called east just doesn't work because a good chunk of their Antediluvians are dead, and the entire story that's being pushed in 5e is that it's 100% the Antediluvians calling everyone east, not Caine. It'll be interesting to see what they do with it, but to me it feels more like a plot hole than a deeper mystery. But hey, I could be proved wrong, and I'm definitely interested to see what comes out next.

I disagree with the final move from Saito in the cabin trying to take mark away from Dakotas shoulders, it is obvious that Dakota has more physical power, and Saito would know that. Instead, Saito should have just moved behind Dakota and cut marks head from behind while Mark is on Dakotas shoulders. Easy peasy, no need to brawl.

I agree with so much of what you say but would love to add that it takes a really great player/actor to play such an effective heel. If we Dakota and Ava werent such fleshed out and well played characters, then even the negative emotions they bring forth wouldnt be nearly as strong. Its like wrestling: Heels and babyfaces, and this is a coterie filled with heels. And god is it awesome EDIT: HUGE props to Little_Red_Dot for playing her character earnestly and not taking the easy way out and letting Zach/Saito have their way. By far the most intense and interesting moment in the entire series!

@@Dularc I agree with you on this as well. It takes a determination for any player to stick with their character's personality to the bitter end and not take easy way outs. Personally speaking, I doubt I could play such a heel role for very long with the hyperbole usage. Though back on the players of these magnificent dastardly characters. Definitely props to Little_Red_Dot and GamingFTL for sticking hard to their guns with their characters even though they might be throwing all of us into emotional roller coasters left and right. MissMagitek and EE also doing well in their parts of trying NOT to seem to overly dastardly. Mathas just being an overall excellent story teller and letting the players roll with their choices as characters. It definitely takes a lot of practice and thick skin to really play those roles. Though some of the subjects that happen did feel personally struck for me, thus my 'knee jerk' reactions. On thoughts of your wrestling analogy, definitely a good call on that. Except I am the type to not like a heavy hyping match only for lack luster pay out. That is probably one of the fears I have for any story that garners a good deal of drama... then again I suppose the previous amount of punishments the coterie went through was one such pay off.

It's certainly safer for the coterie to complete the job for the Camarilla. Returning with a fetch "Mark" would have pissed off the Camarilla. But I'm REALLY on board with team Sybill. Not that she'd be any fairer to the coterie for fucking up.

You entirely missed the point the Nos and Cam pretty much know his son is the only thing keeping him tethered and if Rowan died by their hand they'd have to ash Olley, since with literally nothing left he'd be a threat to walk up to a reporter take of the mask and scream kindred are real. Rowan's life is only in danger with Bella if Olley plans on opposing her or otherwise being an idiot, instead of spending the next 10-15 years working to earn a boon that would be worth 1 ghoul from Bella.

Ava, please tell Dakota what Zach did! He has to be stopped with his control bullshit. I love that the coterie finally see how annoying Zach is and that he's behaving like a sulky child lol. We can all look forward to EE meta gaming like crazy. Also, how is it Zach has read every book known to man and vampire kind? He always knows or has heard of everything. Nothing is never a complete surprise to him. No doubt he will know all Werewolf tribes once they come into play.

Mathas, you need to drop your DCs. 90% of tasks should be a DC 1, 7% is 2 or 3, 2% at 4 or 5, and 1% above. DC 6 is telling Caine he hits like a bitch.

According to the book: 1 = Routine (hitting a non moving target, convincing a good friend to help you) 2 = Straightforward (convincing someone to fuck you when they're already pretty horny) 3 = Moderate (walking a tightrope. which is a weird comparison imo) 4 = Challenge (finding where a whisper came from, creating good art) 5 = Hard (Convincing a cop the drugs you have aren't yours) 6 = Very Hard (calming a hostile and violent mob) 7+ (Finding a specific homeless person, at night, in LA, in under 12 hours) I would say most tasks dealing with well prepped people, and beings beyond your own power are 3+. Dealing with beings beyond your knowledge, higher. DC 1 is a joke and imo should never be used. It's more or less "Yeah, you do it" which is how I treat anything DC 1 in my head. They just do it, no rolls.

This felt extremely forced by Mathias. 5 rounds of 5 successes 1 round of 7 and 1 of 4 and yet Mathias did exactly what he wanred to Saito. The absolute worst thing a GM of a TTRPG can do is to take away the possibility of success. Sadly now everything that happens as a consequence of this Deus Ex "You lose no matter what you do HAHA" is tarnished. All future events are tainted by the Storyteller FORCING his way while pretending a PC was involved when in reality they were not.

Saito was literally fighting the power of a methusala at Blood Potency 2 a methusla's minimum Blood Potency is 5, and there is no way he's even gen 6. This was really a herculean effort and the player tripped at the finish line, because of a conviction and lack of faith in his dice.

Even as roleplay the fact that Dakota doesn't try to resist the bond is utterly ridiculous given how strongly independent she was shown episodes before. Now it seems that she was just craving attention from anyone. Also Ava and her are too dense to see how stupid they are (while well played) they fuck up everything and blame Zach. At first it was just Ava sucking up and she is still trying to for some reason. Now with the blood bond on Dakota it's just blown out of proportions. Zach is right they are a problem, he should just take Ollie and leave.

They were over this the previous episode Dakota literally has to roll all successes or crit to resist the bond, 90% of the time it wouldn't be worth it. Let alone given how starved for family Dakota is, it makes sense she'd latch on to a "motherly" figure, even if the relationship is toxic, especially when Bella was manipulating her with mundane charms as well as the bond.

Objectively, he was struggling against a Methuselah. Someone so far beyond his power that he wouldn't normally have a chance at all. The 5's were likely exactly on the difficulty to make any progress at all.

Spoilers warning! Im so mad at Dakota, the one time to redeem herself to her friends but she couldnt from that blood bond. They should have made her be somewhere else, nice knowing you zack. To be honest though he was a jerk nearly all the time he was right all the time.
