Wow. What a great lesson. Though I know most of the words, I don't know their actual meanings. We nonnative speakers don't use these words regularly. So we forget them as soon as we learn them. This lesson may help me not to forget words of body sounds. Thank you, Jennifer. You are a really marvellous teacher.

I'm glad you watched. With this kind of vocabulary, it's more important to make these words part of your passive vocabulary. Some words you may hear more often, so you just might make a few part of your active vocabulary. Thank you for studying with me.

Small corrections: 2. while sneezing/ when I sneeze 4. she always clears her throat/ she clears her throat all the time 7. spelling: tsk tsk (It's a sound.) 8. smack + object (I smack my lips...) >> Meaning you want to eat it? 9. Suggestion: when I long for old times 10. when she feels sleepy

I couldn’t help with a loud sneeze, and I usually sneeze twice or theree times. But in China, we don’t have to say bless you or something like that after someone sneezes. In contrast, there is a saying here: If you sneeze once, it means someone is missing you at that time ; if you sneeze twice is means someone is cursing you. So we might joke with someone after he or she sneezes. I think it’s a way of saving you from the embarrassing moment.
@Englishwithjennifer5 жыл бұрын
I like those sayings. I heard that if your nose itches, you're going to get angry. I usually sneeze twice, by the way. LOL

I am sneezing rarely. But people around me sneezing every ten minutes, as it`s seems to me. So I tell them each time: "Be health!" (it`s like american "Bless you" in Russia). Recently my colleague asked me not to tell everyone "Be health!", because most of all people do not like to emphasize their sneezing. So now I keep silence and feel myself as man with bad manners.
@Englishwithjennifer6 жыл бұрын
Well, I imagine that if someone has allergies or a bad cold and is sneezing throughout the day, saying "Bless you" would become unwelcome. I don't think you showed bad manners. Now you just have to show sensitivity to what the norm is in your office. Personally, if I'm among friends and family and I sneeze, I appreciate when someone says, "Bless you." It makes me feel like I'm not ignored and they care. :)
