you cant just divide 24 with 10 to get the current you must apply first voltage division

You can actually. The voltage within the right loop is 24 = 10i, so i=2.4A.

That would be correct if the two resistors were in series. As they are in parallel, the voltage will be the same across both. I got confused with the same thing initially.
