I miss this cast- when the chemistry/bits weren't so forced. It was just friends on a couch. I get that SourceFed needs to compete with other channels so they had to bring up production value and do all those podcasts, but I feel like that forces creativity in a way that it wasn't forced back when Comment Commentary was around.

The one time I had sleep paralysis I almost died and I'll never forget it, I was about 8 or 9 and I was lying down on my side (on my couch facing the back of the couch) trying to take a nap, then I uncontrollably rolled slightly to the back of the couch so my face was burried into the crevice of the couch and I could hardly breathe, I was like that for 5 or so minutes trying to cry for help but my mouth wouldn't open and I couldn't move and I guess I blacked out because that's all I remember, I woke up in the same position but I guess I somehow got more oxygen and I could move again and I never slept on that couch again, I've never told anyone this story because how crazy it sounds

I suffer from sleep paralysis several times a week and sometimes more than once during sleep. After years of this, it is still terrifying :/ Your body is in a state of REM sleep so the muscles are 'frozen' but your mind is awake so although your mind is awake and conscious/semi-concious, you are unable to move your body... That's the kind I suffer from anyways...

No, when Steve was talking about sleep paralysis... Joe and Lee, you guys have no idea. I've experienced sleep paralysis a total of three times that I can vividly recall, and every time it was terrifying (though a little less so with each subsequent instance). The first time was when I was in my early teens, and it literally felt like all control of my body had been forcibly removed from me, and that something was trying to possess me. I couldn't even open my eyes, though I knew I was awake. That's the first thing I do every time it happens, I try to open my eyes. And my brain is literally screaming the commands but they remain shut, like they've been disconnected from their respective muscles. At the time, I was raised to be fairly religious, and I literally believed something was attempting to possess me. To describe it, it feels like an oppressive presence is assaulting my mind while simultaneously suppressing my ability to control my body. Some liken it to something sitting on their chest, but I liken it to something else being seated deep in my body, right in my very core, a cold weight within me, and it's preventing my brain's signals from being received. I can still feel everything, but I can't move anything. So I was lying there, in a cold sweat, and praying and fighting to regain control of my body as my mind went into panic overdrive. Eventually, control of my limbs returned, but I didn't go back to sleep that night. The second time, I believed declaring in prayer my allegiance to Christ was what would help me fight off the demon, and I kept fighting it, and control came back to my body. This experience reinforced my religious beliefs for the longest time. The third time (earlier this month in fact), I managed to overcome my panic and realize what was actually happening (sleep paralysis), and just let it run its course. It was only in recent years that I learned about sleep paralysis and came to the conclusion that it was this, not demonic possession, that I was actually experiencing. That's how powerful and terrifying an experience it can be. I honestly believed for nearly a decade that I was experiencing an attempted possession when I was actually experiencing sleep paralysis. And it would make sense that this is linked to lucid dreaming, because I had other dreams that I thought reinforced the validity of this belief, dreams that I had woken to find myself floating three feet above my bed, and upon being awake for a few seconds I'd be dropped. Other lucid dreams, like walking through hell, or believing I was in the midst of a massive WWII-esque battle, things like that. Unbelievably real dreams where I could feel myself breath, and I could decide directions to take or actions to perform... always very intense and feel more real than real life. But not always scary. Some dreams are very pleasant, like walking through a sunny garden where I get to decide what plants I feel or flowers I smell, or things like that. But, these tend to be less memorable. Recalling them now is like a fuzzy memory of something warm and enjoyable, they just don't stick out in my mind like the scary ones do. I no longer hold religious beliefs, but I don't think I'll ever be able to stop likening my experiences with sleep paralysis to possession. It's just so fucking terrifyingly eery and mind shattering, to be aware of your body but be completely incapable of moving it whilst feeling like there's this presence there. Makes me feel cold every time I recall it.

jayp smile I don't mean to frighten you any more but one of my many experiences was pretty gnarly. So I fall into paralysis and I've been through it so many times so I'm waiting for it to go away and hoping I don't get these intense digging pains that I usually get. No pains so I decide to open my eyes. Bad move as I see a black mist forming over me and I shut my eyes again. I know hallucinations are common during paralysis so I'm just thinking if I don't see it, it won't be so bad. Then I start to feel like someone is grabbing my throat. Their grip tightens and I open my eyes again and see a large shadowy figure squeezing my throat. I lose my shit and try to move which luckily jarred me out of paralysis. I didn't sleep the rest of that night :)

I've had sleep paralysis a bunch of times. It is pretty terrifying. The worst is when I'm lying on my stomach and I feel like a can't breathe, but I can't move my arms to push myself up. One time I was stuck on my stomach and I actually quietly muttered help because I thought I'd be stuck that way for too long and pass out from lack of oxygen. Luckily it's gone away, hopefully for good. I have no idea what sleep paralysis has to do with demons, but it's my understanding that it happens because your body paralyzes you when you sleep o you don't act out your dreams, sometimes something goes wrong if your sleep pattern is interrupted in a certain way and the paralysis hasn't worn off yet. So you're stuck being awake but can't move. The pressure you feel is you not being able to fully expand your lungs since that takes muscle movement.

Yeah, for a little while, I did techniques to induce lucid dreams, and they worked. I loved the dreams, but I too had the sleep paralysis as a side effect, and it was NOT fun. I didn't get the feeling of someone on my chest; rather, the stress was mostly on my neck muscles. But it was PAINFUL as hell, and after a couple weeks, I decided to stop the techniques. After a few days, the lucid dreams faded. Also, Jonathan Gay.

I only experience sleep paralyses when I take a nap in the middle of the day. It's like I half way wake up and I'm just not awake enough to move. Sometimes I dream that something bad is happening and I have to get up but I cant, that's when it gets scary. The solution is to just finish my nap.

I had minor surgery a few months ago, and the anesthesia gave me sleep paralysis. As soon as I breathed in the gas I fell asleep for maybe two seconds and then woke up with a start, though I couldn't open my eyes and couldn't hear anything aside from the heart monitor beeping at an alarmingly slow rate (needless to say- I thought I was dying; and I also had a massive panic attack). Then a few nights later the same thing happened at home in the middle of the night. Now I'm terrified of going under ever again :\

Sleep paralysis happens to everyone. It's the body's natural method of keeping one's body from hurting itself while in a dream state. Think about it, you try to run a marathon in your dream...what happens if your body in bed? Sleepwalking, that's what happens when you don't have sleep paralysis. In some cases people wake up and the sleep paralysis lingers.

I have had sleep paralysis before and it's terrible. You actually can't do anything, and kinda just have to go back sleep or freak out about it for a long time.

I love these people LOL. Steves reaction to everything just makes my day sometimes. I dont know why so many people are taking it so personal. I hope Johnathan doesn't take this seriously. Its just Steve, he doesn't mean harm. Relax everyone :)

It's just Steve's humor! Everyone finds different things funny. He apologized too Johnathan and it's not like he was legit making fun of him, he just had one of those moments.

I like how you enforce the punishment factor of not wearing a seatbelt rather than the life saving factor. You lot need some proper D.O.E speeding shock ads.

Lee Newton looks like Carrie Brownstein in a blonde wig, both equally funny and amazing. I would like to see them in something together. Lee would be great on Portlandia!!

sleep paralysis happens every time you sleep... so you don't move during your dreams...the problems arise when you wake up and it is still happening...

You know that there was an actor who did Shakespeare's plays back in the 1500's whose name was Thomas Poope. I kid you not...
