Some footnotes, mistakes and corrections I want to write down with this video: -I didn’t research the hosting part of roblox servers. I assumed Roblox’s servers required money out of you. Roblox servers are free to host and make. The various micro transactions are just the roblox developers being roblox developers -It turns out I played rake the noob edition when I really should’ve played the remastered one -At the end of the day the purpose of this video was to look specifically at the _worst_ roblox horror games. At the time it didn’t really make much since for me to talk about the games that were more polished then most since they didn’t really belong in this video. Which is why these games feel kind of off. If I’m going to be talking about something like unscary roblox horror games, I might as well look at the absolute worst of the bunch. -A sequel will be made to this video, which will include games that more people would want to see. -Doors was not conceptually popular when this video was made, which is why it wasn’t in this video as I didn’t know it existed. It will be reviewed in the sequel. Please stop asking me in the comments. -I don’t buy the defense that games like frogge and cheese horror escape were meant to be joke games. They’ve obviously had considerable effort put into it and it would feel odd that all of those weeks or months of development put into those games was all just for some funny joke. Those games purposes wasn’t because of a joke, it’s just simply not scary. Plus even if they weren’t meant to be taking seriously there still no longer termed as jokes anymore as you can now buy in game microtransactions in them. A joke is no longer a joke when money is involved in my eyes. -For the people that wanted me to review piggy, I’ve already made a video about it back in 2021. One of the bigger reasons is because while roblox only says they take 47 percent, because of how you convert robux into money and other things they can end up taking around 90 percent of the money you make, So games have to have tons of micro transactions to be profitable

I think the main problem with roblox horror games is that they'll try and be scary but then you just have some dude with an avatar that's comprised of decals for a hot cheese bag or some other avatar that takes you out of the immersion. If they just changed it so that you looked different than your avatar and actually fit into the game, then it would be a lot more scarier. Maybe disable chat as well but that's an extreme and I don't think most people would like that change.

In the maze, the camera was ment to be used as a light source that would illuminate very far but for a split second. Manly used to find the teletubby before you run into it at a decently safe distance. Also, the big area outside actually has some secrets. There is a building with a missing piano key, and a piano.

I agree that a majority of roblox games aren't scary. Usually the most scary parts are being jumpscared without really expecting it. Some games such as Isle 9 does a great job at just creating a tense atmosphere of the player not knowing what to do. Multiple endings, enemies, achievements, titles, collectibles. All sorts of stuff that you really only get by exploring.

I remember a horror game I stumbled across around when I first joined the platform back in 2017. It was singleplayer, entirely first person, and everything had a custom model. This gave it an incredibly unique and rather realistic look that I found quite immersive at the time. It didn't go for cheap scares either, with no over the top spooky monster chasing you down to scream in your face. It dealt more with messing with your head and making sure you never particularly felt safe at any moment in time. As you navigated your characters odd dreams and dealt with bumps in the night. Unfortunately, it was taken down by the creator for reasons I'm not aware of. But I'd be lying if it wasn't the best horror game I've seen on the Roblox platform period.

Here is a little fun fact about the maze, instead of going into the underground cave, I actually walked past it into the darkness, and the map is big as hell. In fact, being outside in the darkness is more eerie and scary than being in the cave. And it's not just a flat map. There are actually ruins and even buildings that you could enter if you walk far enough. And unless the dev(s) removed them, I remember trying to enter a tall building when doing it.

Out of hundreds of horror games I've played (including the mimic) I feel like the only scary ones were lightbulb(now ruined by "remasters"), rooms, and doors. I feel as though most developers think they can just focus on graphics and make the game automatically good, or they're too focused on trying to monetize it.

Story time: I played The Maze a long time ago now with my sister, before what he showed in the video. I was utterly terrified, so I camped the crawl spaces, while my sister was lost and trying to find me. At some point, I left my crawl space to look for her. I was careful and liked to be near a crawl space I could run to if I was overly worried for my life, which was often, because I had no knowledge of the game yet. Someone explained to me in the crawlspace to basics to the monsters, so I knew which to fear the most. I used the camera the most because I didn't want to use my limited flashlight, making everything even more scary to me. I ran into a dead end and realized the small one (according to google, it's name is The Cajoler but people like to call it Otto) was in my way. I had found my sister by then and she was watching my panicked fear, though she also liked to camp the nearby crawl space because The Orotund was around, and was moving back and forth in the area. Eventually I figured out there was no way out for me, so I willingly approached Otto and died. His jumpscare made me jump even though I knew it was coming, like every other game. This is why the older version is more terrifying to me than the new one. Don't get me wrong though, I would hesitate to click play to this day. Only with my sister would I muster up the strength to play it. Conclusion: Horror games terrify me to my core no matter how much I understand them, know them before hand, or however long I've played them. Horror games are super effective on me.

the rake remastered for the most part is a great upgrade, at least visually. gameplay-wise, it's not too hard if you camp out in the right spot (not the tower) or simply walk around and keep an eye around you and sprint off in a random direction once the rake sees you. the one and only time the game truly scared me was during a random event that lead to me mistaking the rake as a player because of a change in mechanics. highly recommend trying it with a friend for a while.

The tower is actually a great spot IF you’re on a team with a member on a call. Alone it’s horrible, but when you have a team one of you can watch the ladder while the other watches the surrounding area. Jumping doesn’t take all your health so at least one of you will survive. It’s my favorite game to play with my friends because but I hate playing it alone

The "Paying for uploading your game" thing is wrong. The only times you do pay for games is when you want a private server all for yourself and your friends OR when it's a paid gaid (Like a beta or something). The real reason I believe that these games have hella expensive microtransactions and gamepasses is simple: Kids will buy it. And they need the kids to buy it because if they wanna make a decent enough profit (That they can possibly turn into actual money), they NEED to squeeze out EVERYTHING they can get because of the shares being mostly in favor of Roblox I think.

As soon as I saw Frogge, Survive Jake Paul The Killer, and Cheese Escape Horror being taken serious as a horror games in the description, I knew I couldn't take this video seriously. These games aren't even meant to be scary in the first place, they're obviously meme games. I don't know if you're intentionally trying to cherry pick games to further your argument or not, but I take you as misinformed. Considering you said hosting servers must be paid when they're actually free. Roblox has a large community of horror developers, these games can't speak for them all or really show what the engine can do. The engine is very capable of creating horror games. At least try something different that isn't a piggy front page clone or very obvious meme game. I was just like you, I never thought a blocky game like Roblox could have horror games and good ones at that, but you have to be a bit more open to understand. Some games you should consider. Fun fact: In The Maze the reason there is such an huge grassy field is because there is a lake in the field with a piano close to it. But the piano is missing a key, with makes it unplayable, but there is another building right across the van and there you can find the key. Now go back to the piano and insert the key, it will then play the main song and you will get a note saying something like, "there is no ending yet game is in beta stick around!"

If you ever plan on making a second part to this, I humbly recommend Realm of the 9 Portals. The base game itself is more like a hub with portals that lead to different horror games, with 3 of them currently active (from when I last checked) The portals themselves are very atmospheric filled with mazes, puzzles, and tidbits of lore here and there, and is a lot of fun with friends especially on the first play through. I recommend to play the portals in order; i.e 1, 2, 3. But to be frank each portal kinda just feels disconnected from each other so I don’t think the order you play them in is very important. It can also be very loud at times which may take you out of the experience.

I feel like some people underestimate Roblox graphics, Roblox is a literal app where you can develop games. That's why some games (for example a new game being Sonic Speed Simulator) look actually really good.

sonic speed simulator is a game with great graphics and horrid gameplay imho. i wanted to go platforming through various levels at high speed, because it's a sonic game, instead it was just a average simulator except with a nice-looking sonic reskin and some speed added. Just so you know, I fully agree with you that roblox games CAN look good. A few examples are Creatures of Sonaria, World//Zero, PWNED: Aeternae Memori, Dragon Blade RPG, Crown Academy, Split, Guest World, these games are different, some lean more towards realism and some towards classic cartoony Roblox but they each managed to put together a good aesthetic. and for good measure i really really don't want to play sonic speed sim ever again, i'd genuinely rather play Pyrite Adventure 2, a ripoff. that's how much i hate sonic's official roblox game, i think a ripoff is better

The very first time I played The Maze, I went into it completely blind. A couple of friends and I were just looking for goofy horror games late at night. I got split up from my friends and was walking alone, when I saw what I thought was my friend's username in white at the end of a tunnel. I called out to him, getting a bit closer, and then the white marks rushed at lightspeed towards me. It was actually the tall monster's eyes, it got me and killed me. In The Maze, you can actually use axe as a defensive weapon. If the tall monster noticed you and proceed to hunt you down, throwing an axe at it will dominate it and freeze it for at least 5 seconds (took the opportunity to run before it get back to kill you), the same with the mask boy if he actually pull his stings out

You should seriously play Trespass barely anyone plays it and its one of the best experiences I have ever had, its a bit long tho and very difficult it takes me and my friend entire days to finish a chapter. But its horrifying. The Rake remastered is also horrifying af altough it gets old after a while.

Roblox horror games aren't gonna leave a good impression on horror enthusiasts. Trust me - I've played The rake, The Maze, The Mimic, Judy, Apeirophobia, Roses, GCC 2015 horror classics (GCC horror games are much scarier than the present ones EX: RED44, Fear Test, A confined story of death and shadows, Missing) and they aren't even scary at all. Conclusion: Roblox horror games are just base level scary which can only scare kids.

About the keypad that you mentioned on the video in "the maze", when i played it i found some sort of radio in the game which made beeping sounds, same as the keypad does, so you have to memorize the different beeping sounds that the radio does so you can make a code on the keypad to open a secret door with a keypad on the wall.

The small monster in the maze just stands there, and possibly move slowly, until you take your camera out and take a picture of him. The reason in doing so is because your objective of the game is to take pictures of the monsters in game. I know the " how to play" option in the menu tells us we need to see how long we would survive, but I feel like that's the secondary objective.

i have played all these games before an i agree with you on the fact that they are all pretty mediocre, although a game i think you missed an actual pretty creepy one called "hunting season" its basically just the rake but a bigger map, and a different monster each night (kind of), oh and instead of the protective areas running out of power overtime they have health bars and are eventually destroyed.

Theres some good ones! part of the problem is it helps a lot to remember its in roblox. however, some of the game can actually be fairly scary when you play them, regardless. 16:45 in the original RAKE game in roblox the shop was an old beat down shack somewhere in the map that you couldn't enter, only buy stuff through a window where the shop owner was looking out of and at night the window was closed. I think this also applies for the remaster so I don't know why the noob edition makes the shop an area

The Rake Remastered was pretty good in terms of horror as chats disabled unless u have a radio (not sure been awhile since i played) and also it has a dark atmosphere and in terms a nice setting. U get a flashlight and u have to run through a forest in the dark without being able to see far. And when the rake shows up its actually scary as long as u have ur headphones plugged (so u can hear where the rakes coming from).

In my opinon, the developers on Roblox trying to make horror misunderstand what makes horror good/scary, most are linear-pathways forward and then a jumpscare. One of the biggest horror game is "Rose" which is a classic but even then that game, which beens on the site for some time, still lacks any scary aspects outside of gloomy hallway. Great video. Edit: Another classic horror game would be identity fraud, which in my opinion would be amazing on another engine that isn't Robox - mostly cause the games concept is really good and has some solid execution - because the artstyle ain't fitting.
