Btw, Archer baited Lancer to this specific attack (since he knew he wouldn`t survive thrust attack) by insulting his honor, saying that it just a stick as long as they at range and also mentioning dogs. In Cu Chulainn`s legend, who is also known as Hound of Chulainn, dogs has special meaning. Archer used a lot of Caster`s mana and still barely survived, but he accomplished his goal. Probably that`s why Lancer was even more pissed when he left.

Besides the insult in the vn, it was stated that Lancer got very mad because his strongest attack got blocked but at the same time, the mysteriousness of Archer dispels the anger.

Caster's original wish was to return back to her homeland. You will know why if you research about her lore. But after meeting Kuzuki, her wish changed to just being with him since he was the only one who treated her not as a tool but rather a human. Hence why she said Kuzuki wouldn't be able to fulfill her wishes after she dies since she will no longer be able to be with him anymore.

She didnt expect it, and he knows were to hit. Mostly all servant go down because they didnt know something or were distracted, it seems how rider and caster go down in this rute UBW, and everone else in heaven feels XD

Rho Aias - named after shield that was carried by Ajax, Greek Hero of Trojan War. It had 7 layers and was the the only thing that could stop spear attacks of Hector, another Hero of that war. With time, it became conceptual anti-projectile shield NP, each layer of which comparable to a fortress wall. Gungnir, that was mentioned by Archer, is spear of god Odin, The All-Father (who is also father of famous Thor), from Norse myths. I`m really curious how and when Archer could encounter with such weapon (and most likely, it`s owner).

@@BekindBekbek Whoops, I mixed up Gungnir and Rho Aias in your comment. ...Actually, thinking about it, the shield is definitely also in the Gate. But I wouldn't be surprised if he had been summoned by Alaya back in the time of Aias and Hector sometime.

@@GlassedGamer It`s quite obvious how and where Archer got shield. But Gungnir... was it just got somehow on Earth by itself, or Archer actually faced Odin and the rest of the gang? Sounds crazy, but this is Fate we talking about. Also, isn`t only human-made treasures are part of GoB (with exception of Ea and Enkidu?)? I`m pretty sure that Gil doesn`t have Excalibur and Avalon.

@@BekindBekbek According to the wiki, Gungnir is the prototype of Gae Bolg, so it's probably in the Gate. I don't remember it being mentioned that only human-made treasure is in there, but I'm fairly sure that Excalibur isn't in there, even considering that it was made before his time.

The subtitles are not quite right. The spear always aims for the heart, if you try to dodge it, it will reverse causality (like travel to the past and adjust its trajectory) in order to aim at your heart again. Its property is that it's impossible or near impossible to avoid.

Do keep in mind that the reversal of causality that the spear invokes, only apply’s to when it’s thrust at close range and not when thrown from afar.

reverse casuality applies only to thrust attack. In thrown version this curse is exchanged for firepower, but it still chases the target. Because if it wasn`t that way, shield wouldn`t help - spear would just avoid it, like it did with Saber`s sword, when she tried to parry it. In 2006 anime thrust attack of Gae Bolg was shown closer to original VN, than 2014 version.

The curse of "it will always hit" is there still but the difference is that thrown version can be defended against because no causality fuckery hence why the only way to survive is to block it.

Alright we finally get Lancer's name drop: Cu Chulainn. Cu chulainn was a hero from the ulster cycle of Irish myth. Born with the name Setanta, he is son of the god of light Lugh. He received the name cu chulainn after accidentally killing the guard dog of the blacksmith chulainn and then offering to be his replacement dog, hence cu chulainn [hound of chulainn]. After being trained by the warrior maiden Scathach [pronounced Ska-ha] he went on to fight in battles until he died. In short he's Irish Hercules.

Kuzuki can match saber because Caster buffed him, so his limb can be as a steel, and he can parry Saber's attack. When fighting Archer, he don't have that enhancement, so he can't parry Archer's blade bare handed like he did with saber. Kuzuki is an experienced killer, but he still a mortal. Without the backing from a Servant, he can't really match any Servant.

To be fair, without the surprise advantage Kuzuki stands no chance against Saber. The only reason He got that first win was because his Snake fist is assassination technique that fools senses, and it made Sabers Instinct giga backfire on her. On a second encounter Saber would bisect him without a problem, the snake fist is only ever supposed to be used once.

the whole point of goading lancer was to make him use his noble phantasm against his shield rho aias, which is powered by his master's mana . . .IE CASTER, thus when hit, it drained most of caster's mana which weakened her in the fight against Rin and Shirou, which allowed Archer after lancer left to kill her and her master.

To explain why Lancer Cu Chulain left feeling so upset: In his lore, he was a single unit veteran who would casually wipe out entire armies on a daily basis with bowmen being the easiest foes. Now here comes Archer, a bow-man, actually holding back due to prioritizing on crippling Medea. The only true panic Archer had was only because he miscalculated the danger of a spear empowered by an actual Demigod (Divinity skill negates defenses). Cu giving his all was not enough to make Archer go serious on the offence, the Irish warrior's pride was wounded by this. And I'm not trying to downplay Rin's accomplishment by saying this: while Caster did underestimate Tohsaka, this was the result of purposely lowering her guard with the confidence that her contingencies would bail her out if she found herself in a disadvantage.

Yeah no. Archer wasn't holding back. Lancer straight up destroyed Archer. The only reason he didn't kill him is because he knew Archer had to play a part to beat Medea

@@skychieftain Not really, but I understand why a lot of people would come to that conclusion on the surface. If you observe deeper, You'd find that all Archer's movements are with the intent of survival defense. Future episodes reveal he had ample counters for Cu besides Broken Phantasms like Hrunting.

@@GC-Shadow1327 cu has protection of arrows so Hruting wouldn't have had any value. Secondly the arrows take a lot of time to power up before launching so how will he even launch them if he can't keep up with Chulaiin's speed? Think before typing

Also, Lancer realized that Archer overplayed him, baited him to try to finish fight in one blow by attack that Archer could counter (well, barely, but still - he had no chances against thrust attack), but in result only weaken Caster. It was very dishonored, but quite effective. I guess this is also could be example of work of Mind`s Eye: Archer won this whole battle by losing one particular fight.
