for years, i drove taxi in New Jersey (NJ), New York (NY), and Pennsylvania (PA). please keep in mind that i'm a born and raised southern (Texas) boy. i wouldn't necessarily call NY "dangerous" per se. but there is an element of crime and danger that is more present than what would be found in many other cities. BUT... i would recommend that ladies do not go there unescorted (yes, i'm old school like that). NY is not my kind of place. it doesn't match with my personality. so i consider it a dirty, unfriendly place that i have no desire to see again. others will have differing opinions and that's what makes the world go 'round.

You need to keep in mind that New York City is a very large urban area. It is expensive. It is crowded. It does have public transit. It does have crime. It has a lot of visible and sometimes aggressive homeless panhandlers. It is very fast moving. You need to be on the alert. Right now, the American body politic is having fairly heated discussions about crime, mental illness and border policy (drug trafficking is part of this). This makes it hard to judge how dangerous an area is. People have fairly strong opinions.

As a woman, I wouldn't go to NYC without my men with me. Mind your purses and wallets. Beware of the tourist traps and when off the main strips, don't go down alleys. Keep in mind that the main street shops are very expensive. There are better places to go other than NYC, unless you go during the holiday times for the parades and the festivities like partying in Time Square to watch the ball drop. Mind you, I haven't done this in decades, but it was so much fun when I did go. I have no interest in going now due the expense and it not being as safe as it once was.

Yes, you can take shells home from the beach. The only restriction is you cannot take a shell that still has something living in it. If you pick up a shell and there is s hermit crab or clam or whatever still inside it, you just have to put it back. On Sanibel Island, there are millions of shells of all kinds so you won't have any problem finding something unique and interesting. In fact, there are videos on here of people doing exactly that.

I don't know if you realize this, but there is a coast line in Texas too. All along the Gulf of Mexico there is Galveston, Corpus Christi, Port Arthur, South Padre Island and more. Galveston is about 50 miles from Houston which seems to be where most folks fly to from an International flight. When my husband and I flew out West, we used Flagstaff, Arizona as our home base. We then rented a vehicle and drove to Death Valley in California, Las Vegas, Nevada, the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone and Grand Tetons. We got a motel for 2 nights in Utah so we could enjoy a couple days there and we got a motel in Las Vegas so we could travel to Death Valley and back to rest before we headed back to Flagstaff. Keep in mind that a RV Rental for 2 weeks will cost a minimum of about $4000.00. I hope your dream of coming to our beautiful country comes true soon.
@Rose-z4h6k
@Rose-z4h6k 11 ай бұрын
Three comments: Having a big RV will restrict where you can go. Some of the neatest places in Texas, New Mexico and Arizona have dirt roads. You will be restricted largely to paved or well-graded roads and to areas that have services that can accommodate larger vehicles. Many folks who live the RV life, tow a car on a trailer behind their RV. A good 4 wheel drive SUV might better suit your needs. Don't underestimate the distances. Going from Dallas, Texas to the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee can be done in two days, but that is two days of not stopping except for food, fuel and restrooms. It takes my friend and I three days, with two drivers and 6 hour days. I took a lot of vacations with my father who wasn't happy if the wheels weren't turning. I've seen much of American's scenic beauty whipping by the car windows. If you really want to experience the States, you will need time to stop and watch the world go by. If you intend to visit the South and/or the Southwest consider some season other than summer. It can be miserably hot and/or humid. It is crowded. Memorial Day (late May), 4th of July, and Labor Day (late Aug/early Sept) are heavy travel times. You really don't want to see our National Parks from your place in a line of hikers or the middle of a traffic jam. If you're going to the beach, avoid spring break season. The hoards of college students can turn beach communities upside down.

As a New Yorker I hate that people try to badmouth my city, are there places you shouldn't visit? Yes. But there are places like that all over the US and everywhere in the world honestly. I wouldn't be discouraged to go to Texas for example just because I hear everyone carries guns. I wanna experience the culture and get to know the people and make my own conclusions. And anywhere you go if you're a tourist you wont go to the dangerous parts of that place unless you're really looking to see that. You're usually gonna stay close to the tourists destinations and if you are friends with a local they will take you to the spots that are tourist friendly and safe. If NYC was so dangerous why do MILLIONS of people keep visiting every year? I know Jono is not too fond of cities and the whole hustle and bustle of them but if you ever decide to visit I would be honored to guide you through the city and show you guys how wonderful it is. Cheers guys, love your reactions and dont be discouraged to experience many places, I'm sure there is dangerous spots wherever you will go but you aint goin there for that, you're goin to enjoy yourselves and experience that as a family.

Hi. First, I've been to every state except Alaska and Hawaii, and I can tell you that all the big cities (like any country) have safe/unsafe areas. Make sure if you're planning on visiting any big city (anywhere) to consult a good travel agent on where to go/stay. Second, the most awe inspiring place I've been to was a guided tour of the Grand Canyon. It really is more than just a crack in the earth. As far as out right fun goes, Florida takes that spot for me because the warmth, water, palms and party life is what I imagine in a vacation spot plus the people fit my southeastern personality better than the (although equally great ) California experiences I've had. My backwoods accent accent made me feel weird in Cali. That's probably just me thought. Third, You need to consider driving distances in the U.S.. It takes about 3 days to travel by car from east coast to west coast without any sight seeing, just know that going in. I wish you the best in fulfilling your hope to visit us here in the U.S., Cheers! Edit: Maybe one day I'll be able to visit Alaska and Hawaii (expensive) and fulfill my little bucket list of "been there done that" lol.

There is so much more to New York than NYC. I live in western New York where we boast having Niagara Falls and also Letchworth State Park (a.k.a. the Grand Canyon of the East). You can also visit Cooperstown for the Baseball Hall of Fame, Corning for the Corning Museum of Glass (kids can blow their own glassware) and Watkins Glen State Park where you can walk down the falls. It's a wonderful state.

Brooklyn is worth visiting if you are hip and West Harlem is gorgeous, lively and of course it has the Apollo one of the most iconic venues this side of the planet. If you are into modern/contemporary art the Harlem Renaissance was pretty pivotal and a lot of that spirit is still in Harlem. Times Square is fine but there are way better places in the city to eat, shop, explore and be entertained. Harlem and Brooklyn are fabulous and well worth a visit they are also super accessible because the subway is one of the very few subway systems in the world that run 24/7.

Not a huge fan of major cities but NYC is well worth a visit and it is not particularly dangerous. For a city of it's size the crime rate is actually surprisingly low and the little violent crime that does happen is almost exclusively between people that know eachother. Don't go to the bronx trying to rip someone off on a coke deal and you will be fine. Violent crime against tourists is extremely rare depsite NYC being one of the most popular tourist destinations on the planet. The primary crime you need to be aware in NYC is that you don't need to buy tickets for central park and the staten island ferry is free. It is the safest major city in the US by quite a ways and is substantially safer than Austin and Houston and the DFW. The Violent Crime rate of NYC is about 38% lower than the US average. Meaning that you are safer in NYC than in most places in the US. You can call NYC and New Yorkers a lot of things but dangerous is not one of them. As it sits today NYC is the 12th safest city on the planet. Making it safer than London, Frankfurt, Zurich, Madrid, Paris and many others. People telling you that NYC is dangerous are just simply ill informed and likely only saying that because they disagree with the relatively progressive disposition of the city but New York. 5 decades or so ago NYC was fairly dangerous but that was when there was still 2 Germanies. To truly understand why the US is the behemoth it is the empire state is the spot. There is something in the air down there that turns everybody up to 11 and even if you are not into cities it is something to behold.

Always enjoy the energy and laughs you folks give off in your videos and just love the relationship you have with each other. I'm a native born San Diegan and I have lived in many other parts of the country. Some how I always end up returning here. One of the greatest things I always loved about this place is that during the right time of year, you can start your day off at the beach, head out to the desert for a nice romp and lunch in the desert, go up to the mountains to visit the snow, when it's there, and get back to the beach by sunset for a nice bonfire bbq. Not many places let you visit so much in one day. The zoo and Balboa Park are my favorites as well as Mission and Pacific Beaches. There a bit of everything for everyone here. Hoping you get to visit the US soon. Best wishes.

Jackson Hole is just the resort town on the east slope of the Grand Tetons. Funny name, yes, but from what I've seen of it from other videos, including privote pilots who just fly there for the hell of it, it's quite nice. As someone who grew up in New Jersey I can confirm that Cape May is a GREAT place to visit. Along with other shore towns/cities in Jersey the board walk is a completely different experience in Jersey than I've seen anywhere else. Ocean City NJ is a great one to stay in for a few days and my personal favorite. The boardwalk is mostly mom and pop shops/restaurants there are also a few arcades, mini golf, and an amusement park. My personal favorite place is Oves (its a restaurant on the boardwalk in O.C.N.J.) their apple cider donuts are amazing. Last little thing of note it's that it is a dry town meaning you cant purchase alcohol there which adds to the family friendly side of things. Not that you cant have it there you just have to bring you own so most people party elsewhere.

I do not like cities, I prefer very small towns, but mainly camping in the woods or desert. BUT! If you were to ever see the Giant Redwood Forests, The Trees of Mystery, The Sea Lion Caves, the Oregon Caves, or to just go fishing at the ocean shore or off the pier, then Crescent City, California is the place. You can use it as a base camp, and you would be 1 to 2 hour drive from the places I mentioned before. PLUS! The seafood there is abundant!! Walk along the dock and see all the HUGE emperor seals laying on the docks, on rocks, or on the beach. I like Newport, Oregon so I could go on a charter boat to do some fishing in the ocean for the BIG ONES! I love the hikes through the Redwood forests and Trees of Mystery. I still cannot get over how HUGE AND MAGNIFICENT those trees are. Have you ever driven a car, van, or pickup truck through a live growing tree??? They have them there. The one I drove through was called the Candelabra Tree! The Oregon and Washington coasts are like no other. They aren't jam packed with houses, stores, and people like other places. Lots of open spaces where you can have the beach to yourselves. I watch the youtube channel of an Oregon fisherman (called "Oregon Life") that shows how to catch and cook all the different types of fish he catches on the coast and in the lakes. Pretty cool watching him pull out his little burner and cook the fish or crabs he just caught. One word of warning, those travel and vacation videos are paid advertisements for expensive places. For instance, when he mentioned Grand Canyon and said lodging is limited, there are lots of campgrounds and RV parks in the area and nearby, but they didn't mention, more or less focused on motels. I live in Arizona and have camped in the mountains, deserts, and lake side. We always like to be where we can see wildlife, nature, and be able to go fishing if we like. I have traveled back and forth across the US more times than I can count. If you come to the US you will find the east coast is very crowded. I will shut up now. You all have your own dreams and goals, but I will tell you that some of the most beautiful and fun places can be the ones that no one talks about. I know you all will find what you would like to do and go see. I hope you will be able to make your dreams come true. And since your daughter loves horse, the Dakotas have thousands of wild horses roaming the ranges and they are BEAUTIFUL!

The Outer Banks are the island stream out from North Carolina. Take a look at the map of North Carolina, and there's this thin line of "islands" quite a bit away from the mainland. These are the Outer Banks. It's also home to the birthplace of powered flight. The Wright Brothers first flew their little airplane on the beach at Kittyhawk on the north end of the Outer Banks. I was there in 1989 after my dad had his bi-annual job convention in Raleigh-Duram, NC.

My advise is to come in the off season for the major attractions. I've been to Yellowstone numerous times, usually in May. Last time was on a whim, because we were in the area. It was July. The place was so unbelievably packed that it seemed you could hardly move. We quickly got out of there(well, not quickly...the traffic was nuts). Prices are also a lot cheaper in the off season. The traditional travel season is from Memorial Day in the end of May to about Labor Day in early September.

One month, driving around in a nice, big RV with four people, insurance, fuel, hook ups, Uber around town, and spending money........shit-ton of money is what that'll cost! Floridian here, can confirm both Sanibel/Captiva (southwest Florida) and Destin area (Florida panhandle) are both very nice. As far as Destin I would suggest also looking into Panama City Beach which is in the same stretch of beach (along with Pensacola but I haven't been there) - I don't know if it's just me but to me Destin has a more "ritzy/upscale" feel and PCB has a more casual "beach party/family fun" vibe with more things to do in the area than just the beach itself. If you ever plan to go, make sure to look up peak Spring Break season in the US and try to avoid going during that time as that's when all the college kids will be there

The RV idea is how I would do it also. Start in Appalachia (The Virginias & Carolinas), across through hills of Kentucky & Tennessee, over The Rocky Mtns (Colorado), down to Grand Canyon (Arizona), New Mexico Bad Lands (Bhisti Wilderness), then on through Las Vegas to L A, up the coast to Puget Sound (Seattle), then back east to Yellowstone (Wyoming), and on to Mt. Rushmore (South Dakota). There is SOOOO much along that route. Not sure how long it would take, would depend on how much you wanted to explore an area, or more just drive and see.

What you saw of the Grand Canyon does not compare to seeing it in person. No pictures or videos does it justice. When we went, we were told the Native Americans called it the upside down mountain. Don't miss it.

In 1985, we took a Southwestern vacation that culminated in Albuquerque, NM where my dad had another of his bi-annual conventions. Our travel route was mostly in Texas, as the first thing we did was to cross into Texas at Texarkana, and then head down to the Houston/Galveston area. We spent a full week in Galveston. Loved it there. Galveston even to this day has a more rustic seaside atmosphere. Then after we left there, we went to San Antonio to see the Alamo, but we got rained out from a mid afternoon storm that actually caused some flash flooding. Deserts are notorious for flash flooding. We got out of there just in the nick of time. Sad part was that we missed checking out the Riverwalk. That's SA's other big tourist attraction. After leaving SA, we headed to Carlsbad, NM and White Sands NP. Calsbad Caverns was awesome. Biggest underground cavern system in the Notth America. There's a big room there called the Big Room, ironically, that's like 3 football fields wide, and something like 6 football fields long. 2000 ft long by 1100 ft wide, with a ceiling of 225 ft. After those two little side excursions, we went back down to El Paso, where we got a flat tire in our then brand new 1985 Suburban. With El Paso on the border, we took a little trip into Juarez. We wouldn't dare do that today as it's a warzone for the drug cartels, but 40 years ago it was still relatively safe for short tourist ventures. After El Paso, we headed up to Albuquerque and stayed there for a week, which was nice as we got to see several Native American sites and towns like Sante Fe, Taos, and even an Indian Pow Wow. Beautiful area around that region as well, as you're kinda in the southern foothills of the Rockies Front Range. In 1993, we went to Vegas, and then the Grand Canyon and Sedona, AZ. That too was a nice litte trip. Wished we woukd have gone up into Utah to see some of the Mighty Five National Parks like Zion, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Arches, and Capitol Reef, but we just didn't have time. We would have needed another one to two weeks to do those.

That's the trip I'd recommend. I'd just add: Go up to Monument Valley and see some of the Navajo rez. Stop at Acoma on the way to Albq. If you go up from Santa Fe to Taos, there are some nice rafting (no white water) trips through Orilla Verde. If you're there in the late summer/autumn get some cider at one of the roadside stands.

If you can afford it an RV would be a great way to see the US. Some drawbacks the RV is a gas guzzler and driving those things around in a large city are pain. Driving them around in a national park is a challenge too since it's usually just 2 lane roads. Some tips Jackson Hole and Yellowstone are about 90 minutes to 2 hours away from each other. If you go to New York be sure to go west and see Niagara Falls and if you go to Niagara Falls be sure to do the Whirlpool Jet boats. Cross over to the Canadian side. The views of the falls are better over there and more things to see and do on the Canadian side.

Yes avoiding parts of New York City is smart advice and normally I'd say don't do it, BUT if you stay in a Manhattan hotel closer to Time Square you'll have plenty of sites to see and can probably catch a bus tour or a circle line boat tour around Manhattan. Oh and if you do go to New York City you'll be able to see the USS Enterprise AIRCRAFT CARRIER (hint hint) plenty of restaurants and shops and the view at night in Time Square will blow your mind! It's called Jackson Hole, not Jackson's Hole, silly! Destin is about 45 mins to an hour away from where I live. There's lots to do and great restaurants too, and depending on when you come .aybe one of the many festivals will be going on. Also, you will be between 2 air force bases, so you should see some planes or helicopters flying around, and if you know someone who can get you on the base (wink wink) need I say more? There is also the US Air Force Armorment Museum nearby that you will enjoy for sure.

@noelramirez1551 Nowadays, Manhattan isn't safe. I was born and raised until the age of 12 between Brooklyn and Queens. Then my family moved to New Jersey but went back often to visit family. It's sad to see and hear how my original hometown has gotten bad even for NYC. It took 59 years for me to leave the northeast, and even though I miss my son and my hometown in New Jersey, I don't regret it. So it's with a real heavy heart to discourage people from going to NYC.

No way to New York (and San Fransisco and Los Angeles....and I grew up in LA) or any other "Big City". Your best bet, if you can swing it, is to come in the SPRING (April - June) or in the FALL (Sep - Nov) and avoid the summer crush. American kids have 3 months off from school in the summer (starting in late May/early June and ending late August/early September), so that's when American families tend to plan their trips. Getting a Motorhome and traveling around the country would be a GREAT way to see what you want and experience a little bit more than just flying from hotel to hotel. Just KNOW that RV/Camper life is a real THING here in the US and campgrounds tend to be booked months in advance (especially in the peak seasons). You would need to find a company that would rent you a camper close to where you want to fly into (Atlanta, Georgia is a massive International Hub......I would expect you would be hard pressed to find a motorhome to rent in New York City....for a decent price). The other question in your planning, depending on the company that rents you the motorhome, is can you pick it up one place and drop it off another.....giving you the ability to drive across country vs. driving in a circle. Conceivably, you could fly into Florida, and drive across the Southern US (through Texas) and go see the Grand Canyon, ending up on the West Coast (like San Diego) and catching a flight home from there. What's crazy is, you could literally spend a month driving around the Western part of the U.S., never tire of what you see/experience, and never see the East coast (and could probably do the same on the East Coast). The U.S. is literally MASSIVE and there's literally TOO much to see in one trip. I lived in Stuttgart, Germany for a total of 6 years. I get the idea of driving 6 hours and crossing the borders of two or more countries and being in an entirely different world. I drove from Stuttgart to Denmark in 7 hours. I also drove from Los Angeles to San Fransisco in 7 hours. That just gives you some context of how truly enormous the States are. You might have some GREAT destinations planned for your trip, but it might actually take you several days to drive from one to the other. Just getting from the Grand Canyon to Yellowstone is 700 Miles (1130KM). Plan accordingly. I hope you guys get to come to the States, even just once. Just make sure to do all your planning and keep your expectations Low and your open-ness to try new things HIGH (got to try some gator meat if you're traveling through Louisiana....LOL.)

As long as you travel smart, don’t go alone, look at reviews, and keep up with the news New York isn’t all that bad. My Aunt who travels quite a bit loves going. The crime rate is definitely not great but it’s to be expected with how busy the city is. There’s definitely certain places where crime can be more prevalent; crowded venues, subway, etc. I wouldn’t avoid going as a whole though.
