Dear salem, The main lines of this song is when the rapper came to song. The line describes all of our struggles and thoughts about life when he sang the lines "do u think ur boat has a leak?" " but i am seeing ur boat is okay".....thats the beauty. We all thinks others life is okay but only mine are in the trouble. But the reality is everyone no matter what level or status are they belongs, all of us in our own troubles and with the problems. And we all have to go with these. This is life.

You guys are almost right. Those women were singing "Chad petanor Gaan", they sing these kind of songs when they make " Jol Chaad"(waterproof roof). Bengal has song for everything.

FYI ' Chaad Pitano Gaan ' which translates into ' Roof compacting and finishing Songs ' was very common before WW II in Bangladesh. Then, reinforced concrete roofs replaced ' It-Shurki-Chuna' roofs and these songs disappeared from the scene. The roofs were made of a mixture of brick chips, brick grains or sand ( Shurki ) and Lime ( Chuna ) laid on timber beams. A row of 10 to 12 boys (not women as shown in the video) would then beat the mix with wooden mallets to the rhythm of a fiddler's play.

The women singing the Chad petano song, a type of saari song describing the inevitable death in a Behula Lakhinder song... The baul song by Dewan brothers described the pessimistic attitude towards life, whereas rap by Aly Hasan described the optimistic attitude towards life.

I think it is fair to say, what I love about Bangladeshi music is that it has so many layers which incorporates a lot of deep rooted village folk music alongside modern musical sounds so that it caters for the older generation of Bengali folks who are traditionalist and grew up listening to folk songs and for the younger generation of Bengali folks who enjoy modern music so that way just by virtue of this, it brings the two generations together. Coke Studio Bangla also invites and welcomes non Bangladeshis who simply love the language of music and are open minded such as yourself to appreciate the efforts of Coke Studio Bangla and their diverse use of amalgamating different musical sounds and concepts together. Description of the song and subtitles are available on this track. Thank you for your lovely reaction. Please could you react on music producer and singer Pritom Hasan Bangladeshi track called Morey Jak. It has millions of views and the vibes are amazing. Many thanks

Two members of the Dewan family: Sagar Dewan and Arif Dewan. Their ancestor is the original composer of the song Ma Lo Ma Zhi Lo Zhi. The song Ma Lo Ma teaches us that life is a continuous journey. Growing up and nostalgia are inevitably two sides of the same coin. Acknowledging this inevitable change, the song proceeds like a conversation. Here life is represented by the analogy of a broken boat and the world is represented by a river. The addition of 'Chaad Petano Song' (it means, hit the Roof-top by rhythmic sound) adds depth to this song. This genre of folk music 'sari song' started during the Mughal period. An urban version of this song can be found among the Masons of the eighties and nineties. These workers, who migrated to the city for livelihood, used to sing such songs while making concrete roofs. The lyrics combined with the pounding rhythm of the song create a festive atmosphere during work while also banishing boredom. 'Ma Lo Ma' is not just a song. Audiences of all ages can relate to this song. The song reminds everyone of the beauty that lies in the journey of self-acceptance and growth.

"Ma Lo Ma," a standout piece from Coke Studio Bangla's third season, is an enchanting blend of traditional Bangladeshi folk music and contemporary elements. This song is divided into three distinct parts, each adding depth to its rich, layered narrative. The first part draws from the "Chaad Petano Gan" (Manual Roof Levelling Song) tradition, a rhythmic style sung by mason workers. Initially, the sound is somewhat distorted to give the impression that it is coming from an 80s-90s CRT television, enhancing its nostalgic feel. This segment provides a grounding beat, anchoring the song in its cultural roots without a direct lyrical connection to the other parts. The second part features the original "Ma Lo Ma Jhi Lo Jhi" song, which is more than 100 years old, performed by two brothers from the Dewan family. One brother delivers the song in a modern style, while the elder brother adheres to its traditional musical form. The lyrics delve into the profound realization that life’s journey is akin to navigating the dualities of adulthood and nostalgia, ultimately reminding us that this journey will end one day and everyone will turn to dust. The third part introduces a contemporary twist with Aly Hasan’s rap, which acts as a response to the Dewan brothers' segment. His rap addresses everyday struggles like cooking food and dealing with life’s challenges, symbolizing the effort required to sustain life. By mentioning a leaking boat and its destination, the rap underscores life’s difficulties and the importance of resilience and preparedness. Hasan's optimistic part also suggests that, at the end of our journey, only our good deeds will accompany us. The three parts of this song are presented by Pritom, using modern contemporary instruments and music styles, creating a seamless blend of tradition and innovation. The set design is rich with symbolism, complementing the song's themes. Buildings and roads represent the journey of life, blending tradition and modernity. People walking vertically against windows symbolize unconventional paths and struggles, while puppets controlled by others reflect the lack of control and societal pressures individuals face. These visual elements enhance the song’s message about navigating life’s journey, facing challenges, and striving for self-acceptance and growth. "Ma Lo Ma" transcends being just a song; it is an artistic tapestry of life's complexities, masterfully weaving together the past and the present to create a timeless narrative that resonates deeply with listeners of all ages.
